It has come to my attention thanks to a friend of mine that while I gave the correct information verbally on cleaning discs. I actually showed on camera wiping all the way across a disc, which is actually counterproductive. You need to wipe the cloth from the centre towards the outer edge, not across the entire disc which could potentially cause circular scratches
Wow, wish I could have learned this sooner. Grew up with physical media and I still own physical media. At least I can still properly take care of them now after watching this video. Glad I never had to deal with mold or anything wrong in my VHS or cassette tapes. Mainly didn’t know I was taking care CDs and DVDs wrong and apparently my parents also took care of theirs wrong because I learn how to do everything from them and just never questioned if I was even doing anything right.😅
Those original game boxes stir many thoughts. They were specifically made in a way to guarantee the utmost protection for the game inside. Unfortunately, people carelessly tossed them aside over the years and now games for sale online cost more if they include this original packaging. That's not even getting into the problems you mentioned with corrosion and reduced reliability thanks to people storing them haphazardly. It's honestly disheartening to know that people can be so irresponsible with items they paid such good money for; not know how lucky they are to possess such things. However, those cases look very nice and I love how the art on them is such a cool way to make you excited about the games you're about to play. Reading the manuals and supplementary materials just makes that anticipation even better. If anyone reading this still owns the original packaging for their games; cherish it. You possess an item that has monetary, artistic, and practical value. If only game cases for every console came with a message that said something like, "This case was specifically created to ensure the best protection and storage for the included software. Do not throw it away!"....
I have DVDs from an old TV Show. They all played well at first but now the last 3 episodes on each Disc won't play even though there aren't any scratches and they look almost new. Any thoughts?
You're gonna be like the guy in the Twilight Zone with his stacks of books and no reading glasses after you take your Sega Saturn games out of their temperature and humidity controlled vault and realize that you can't find a working laser to read those fucking discs in the first place. Not to mention disc rot and other manufacturing defects that you can't guard against no matter how much money you piss away storing your crap. *If you want to preserve your video game collection just make backups.*
I already have backups, over 50TB of games, movies, TV, music, comics, I never need to use a physical item ever again. (Until the hard drives fail) doesn’t mean physical items shouldn’t be valued and cared for
