Jacques Tardi at Work #2

Tardi was born on 30 August 1946 in Valence, Drôme. After graduating from the École nationale des beaux-arts de Lyon and the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris, he started drawing comics in 1969, at the age of 23, in the Franco-Belgian comics magazine Pilote.

Interesting. Tardi works on large boards with only two or three panels apiece which he then splices into full layout pages for scanning and publication. Most comics artists do everything on whole page layouts from the jump.

In Europe they don’t. That’s why in the european panels (Asterix, Blueberry, Lucky Luke, Boule et Bill, Sammy Day, Yoko Tsuno and many more) there are very often marks 1A, 1B and 2A, 2B and so on…

Il n'y a pas que le dessin dans Tardi, il y a la lourdeur de la réalité, il y a toute l'histoire des hommes. C'est indiscutablement un des meilleurs auteurs à avoir rendu avec exactitude les causes, l'absurdité et l'horreur de 14-18.
