My best friend in El Paso (just over the border from me) built a 12 foot ramp with 10 foot transitions in 2018- BECAUSE El Paso’s last legit vert ramp was torn down almost 20 years ago. That’s extreme but it led to us building concrete skateparks
This video is exactly where I am at with my fundamentals i.e. I can FS air out a few feet, I've got my BS air above copping but I can't really FS slash, I can barely stall and haven't even tried to 5050 grind. You've nailed it again Mitchie! Thank you I can see by practicing these skills I'm going to be able to level up!
I use to love frontside carvey kickturns.... I`m 47 now and I`m getting a new board as soon as this snow and ice disappears. Plenty of ramps and vert to play on here in Oslo.
I'll be joining the Patreon soon enough, your tips are great. Ive had a fair share of injuries and surgeries already and so my risk-taking and skill-banking must be very balanced, tips like the one about the front shoulder are just gold, something that clears the way a bit on the right way to practice so it can be done confidently and with fun.
@@SKATEiQwill it be even more hilarious 1260 because of your tutorial. by the way, with regards to dropping, in would you advise working on stuff like kick turn and pumping to grinds first?
Livingston skatepark is 20 mins drive from my place. Different sized concrete ramps, ideal for learning. Parks been extended twice in the last 20 years. It's massive. There's tons of ripping locals. Shout out to Stu Graham, Livi local and bad boy.

When you're doing a slash grind, it almost looks like you're "hovering" and pressing down the board onto the coping, rather than "standing" (with all your weight) on the board. Is that how it feels, or does it actually feel like you're standing on the board/coping? Another thing, when you transfer from the ramp onto the coping it also looks like you're lifting your back knee/foot slightly. Is that correct?
Yes you nailed it. I like to hover unless it’s a long grind, but still hover on the way in. As you increase your balance you can settle for a little longer on the coping and you will have more and more weight into it. I also lift the back knee up to feel like im floating. It relates to our “float into your grinds” video we did! And thanks for the super thanks youre our first one!

@@SKATEiQ Great - this will help me a lot I think! I have tried to get onto the coping for many years, but I always end up "slamming into it" either with the front(!) wheels or the back wheels. But after watching this video, and reading your response, I will try to approach the coping in a completely new way. Happy to be the first to send a super thanks! I've been watching so many of your videos over the last couple of winter months here in Sweden and learnt so much that it's the least I can do. Keep up the - truly amazing - work!

Im not sure if you have a video on this.. but can you do a vid on techniques/getting over the fear of locking up when coming in from a frontside 50 50 or 5-0?
@@SKATEiQ Could you also give tips on preventing/positioning your front foot from sliding off when coming back in from an axle stall/5050? I took a pretty gnarly slam from the top of my local vert ramp because my front foot slid and only my heel landed on the board.
Thanks for this video! Love the detail! I’m 30 years old an I’ve been skating my whole life but I for the life of me can’t do backside slash grinds! But it’s funny because I can do BS carve grinds! I don’t want to say I am very comfortable with the coping because I can’t do them but I also want to say I am because I can do other lip tricks haha I guess the bs slash grind is my Kryptonite, but I really want to learn how to do it so hopefully with the help of this video I can go to the park tomorrow after work and give it some try’s
When going frontside, i always put my weight on my heels and usually go to 2 wheels, super sketchy. I didn't have any problems 10 years ago but out of practice and am working on it.
Hey thanks! I use 56s everywhere, I dont compete in park so i dont need to change much. If i competed i would keep the wheels but change the rest of my set up
I’m at the park learning backside airs right now and watching your videos on them. I keep finding in my recording that when I go to grab, my board floats away from my feet any tips on that?
Id probably have to see it to know for sure but you’re (probably) falling over your back foot at takeoff and your back foot is hitting the ground and slowing the tail down on the way up
I loved the guidance about FS grinds but for literally years it is really so weird a feeling, and it's because of that 'bump' of the wheels hitting the coping, then onto the truck. It is so hard to feel comfortable with it, let alone PUSH to make the grind. Most times when I make it, it's like I have no power/control over it.
Vert does give you more float time. But what you see on vert will be the same for like 8 foot transitions except you wont actually get space from the ramp into the grind but you should still feel light on the board. I like to use vert as the example cause it’s so easy to see
Thanks for the clarification. I’m stuck in a sling because of rotator cuff surgery, and your videos have helped keep me sane and visualizing proper riding. If I would have focused on my kick turns a bit more, I probably wouldn’t be sitting in a sling. 😂
I think the hardest thing is finding a vert ramp.
No lies here
hard for me to find a mini ramp 🫠
There is a few around here. Trying to find a good mini ramp is harder

Get your balance through the coping a little better. Odds are youre putting weight into your toe which makes the bump even more dramatic

12 counts for sure. It’s hard to find ones much bigger than that. Where was it?

Would this be true in a bowl situation where you really don’t have vert? It seems like vert gives you more of a “float” time.
