Thanks again Wayne. Back in the day, my father swore by Coochin as the best fishing spot between Cabbage Tree Creek and Caloundra. He never took me there though. We used to fish Cabbage Tree back when the co-op was still going and before the boat ramp was constructed. We'd fish just downstream from the co-op and more often than not picked up a good feed of Bream for the family.

I lived on cabbage tree creek in 2017 and the fishing was terrible. there was also a permanent oil slick on top of the water

I've been planning on camping and fishing up there for a while now. Once the workshop/home ute is finished, that'll be my first stop on my way around the country.@@abutrug

I lived in one of the houses you past to get to the ramp when I was a kid. A very beautiful place

I've fished at coochin 20+ times, have caught a fish nearly every single time I've gone out. Bream by the thousands, chuck in a pilly and you'll catch one within minutes. Crab city also in the less visited areas. - About to go chuck out some pots there now as I live 5 minutes away

May 24 2019 am camping with kids and grandkids , taking tinny, last time I was there I couldn’t get out from old boat ramp , creek needs dredging, I’ll try new ramp if I can’t get through.
Will be trying lures this time .

A bit of trivia. Back in '69 we lived at the 7 Pines caravan park at Sunnybank. I was 6 years old. The owner of the park had a 22-foot long inboard open boat. I think, based on my memory of the motor and my knowledge now of motors is that it was a Holden six cylinder (I could be wrong though). We went out into the Bay one weekend and caught a heap of Winter whiting. I do remember the number because we pulled up on a beach on (I think) Moreton to count, clean and fillet them. 392. There were 4 adults and me, but I don't remember fishing much. I still remember the adults counting the fish and remember we were there for ages. They butterflied all the fish and put them in a big cold chest on the boat. I can only assume a lot of people at the van park ate fish the next day.

As a kid (45 + years ago) I remember similar outings. Bins full of fish.

I've been to Coochin fishing and crabbing off the bank 4 times in the past 4 months and haven't caught squat. The main boat Ramp has toilet paper etc either side of the ramp among the mangroves. I actually saw one woman go and squat when their tinny came in. The boat ramp up near the camping area is just as bad with crap paper and they just leave their empty grog bottles and tins laying around.
I was actually there 2nd and 3rd August 2018 and same old same old.
I have spoken to boaties and kayakers coming in from fishing the creek each time I've been there and the story is always the same. Caught nothing. I lied as the last guy I talked to caught a sting ray.
It is NOT a great place to go Wayne. I'm sorry to say.

yes it is. i went there this weeken. december 2023 and i have never seen so many fish jumping out of the water. only certain nights you can hear the massive schools jumping out of the water with bigger fish chasing them and slapping the water. it was magic.
I know the area, most people including me catch nothing, its certain times of the moonth that is good.
