45 years ago today, Joni Mitchell and her all-star band performed the first show of their five-day residency at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, California, which would mark the conclusion of the tour. While the performance was captured in a widely circulated audience recording, parts of a much rarer soundboard recording surfaced online in the early 2010s. This excerpt, sent to me by a fellow Jaco fan late last year, comes from that soundboard recording. The rendition starts with some improvisation and Ornette Coleman's "Broadway Blues," which Jaco had started incorporating into his performances earlier that year, four years after recording it with Pat Metheny and Bob Moses for _Bright Size Life._ The tune became a staple in his setlists by late 1985, and another studio recording, released posthumously on _Broadway Blues & Teresa,_ was made in 1986 with Biréli Lagrène and Peter Lübke. The following segment, executed using an MXR digital delay rack and two Acoustic 360/361PP rigs, features an excellent solo version of "Teen Town" and a distortion-heavy take on Hendrix's "Third Stone from the Sun," both of which were staples in Jaco's setlists and bass solos. The only currently unissued soundboard recording from this tour that I know of-recorded at Forest Hills Tennis Stadium on August 25-as well as the official live album _Shadows and Light,_ are both missing the bass solos, which is why this, along with the one I'll share on Sunday, are such great finds. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do. Thanks for watching! www.linktr.ee/jacoarchive
@@musicuniverse1986 I asked that question because I wasn't sure whether or not you had noticed this video, and thought that our two uploads may have been a coincidence.
@@JacoPastoriusArchive Ok. I was planning to post my video today anyway, so it was a coincidence. I put it together yesterday actually. The universe works in mysterious ways :)
I did once own the live CD of Joni Mitchell shadow & lights gig , the one that's available on DVD, and it definitely contained Jaco's , full Solo . which at one point he quoted 'Chromatic fantasy but they chopped it from the DVD.

...& it's heartwarming to see the photo of Jaco smiling. This is how it should be...
I was there!!!!
Lucky! I can only imagine how booming Jaco's bass felt live
If only I didnt sell my Acoustic bass head. This is a stellar live capture. Thanks for the post.
So clean! 🤍
Great posting choice my friend. Greetings from Norway.
You weren't aware that I was going to post this, were you?
@@JacoPastoriusArchive What do you mean exactly? How is that relevant to my comment?
@@JacoPastoriusArchive I'm going to answer your question anyway. Yes, I noticed a few hours before you posted it since you notified in advance.

Thank a lot for that elegant & improvising bass ; Jaco stay Joko for all bass players (Percy Heat to Bo Stief)
I'm glad you like it Pierre! :)
Why is the audience clapping out of time? Wow. 12-10-24.
Nice solo ... Jaco kept it together ... there are some solos out there where he lost it and got lost in noodling and doodling
Thank you for this release! Was it never put put? Sounds really clean.
No, it wasn't. Seems like it's from a radio broadcast.
@@JacoPastoriusArchive thank you
wtf happens at 5:53?!
