    Help! I'm using windows and I have both Photoshop and Photoshop Beta installed. However, I'm not seeing the option to select which one to run. In fact, the drop down only contains one item - Adobe Photoshop 2023. When I go to Edit in Photoshop, I get the Beta copy and the only way not to have the Beta to open is to have Photoshop non-Beta open.

    Many Windows users in the comments have stated that Lightroom selection of Photoshop versions does not work. Unfortunately, the response to this is that it some other issue! I too have the the same issue. I would love to know if any Windows users do have this feature and have had no issue with switching the PS version.

    Another missed opportunity on Adobe's part. Unfortunately, the edits you make to those raw layers (in ACR) do not update your raws in Lightroom (vice versa too). I'm thinking that very few people at Adobe actually know what LINKED smart objects are and how to use them.

    • @photoshopcafe

      You can save the metadata in ACR while open as the layer filter (... menu, save settings), choose the same folder as the original file (drag and drop LR file into the dialog box), then after the PS document is saved, read meta data from file for those Raws in LR (contextual menu) and all the edits from the ACR in the PS file layers are copied to the Original single files as well.

    Or for example I have edited a file in Lightroom but want to remove something out of the image with content aware fill but access my edits out of Lightroom afterwards.. I cant do that actually because I need a new layer in Photoshop. Really frustrating workflow.

    This is excellent integration. I would love to see the same integration between Lightroom and Adobe Express. Now I hv to export in Adobe Express to add back to lightroom but losing all the objects added in Adobe Express. So now I have to retain the projects in Adobe Express which will eventually run out of cloud storage space. Further Adobe Express has a non-existent Metadata like Lightroom.

    I've been using Photoshop since 1994, but not in anywhere close to a full-time capacity, so there are features that have just passed me by without me having a chance to really understand them. Smart objects is a big one of those, but I'm thinking I really need to learn and understand them. Most of the features have been available for ages, except for the back and forth of camera raw that has been available only for a few years, only use Raw files, smart objects and save in PSB, no size limits and full compatibility with all the other Adobe products, TIFF if needed for eternal compatibility and printing. Okay, can anyone explain to me why so many people still just use lightroom when photoshop/CameraRaw can do all the same stuff at this point? Besides preference, sticking to old ways, and aversion to taking time to learn slightly different controls I don't get why so many people start and stay in lightroom when you can do the exact same things in photoshop without leaving.
    Is it the sorting and grading? Is it the filing system and storing? Whenever I ask my friends, they just say "I like it more" (which is A-ok, no problem with comfort) or "photoshop isn't for this kind of editing"(which is not true).
    Why is Lightroom your go-to app? Honest question, don't be a butthead, it's not an argument. Just a question.

    • @chrissetter
      @chrissetter ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. I take about 8tb of photos a year professionally and use LR to do the majority of the editing. LR provides the option to quickly organize, filter, cull, export and edit photo shoots with 1000s of photos. I cannot even begin to imagine how difficult that would be to do in PS. Time is money.
      Important features:
      The ability to rate using colors, numbers and flags is extremely important for editing. I need to organize my shoots by subject to make editing easier.
      The ability to copy and paste edits, and to choose specific parameters to copy/paste is important.
      The masks are very quick and very powerful for how fast they are to use.
      I need LR to export 100s of images together in multiple resolutions and formats for my clients.
      Plus, every tool you need to edit is quickly accessible. No diving in menus. It’s all there on the side.
      Anyways I can keep going. I use both PS and LR together everyday to make a living. I hope this helps!

    • @Chev1220
      @Chev1220 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrissetter thank you! I can see the argument for the exporting and culling.
      After a shoot I usually sort and move my files thru Bridge and from there send to CameraRaw, apply my edits and then open straight into photoshop if needed. That’s always worked pretty quickly for me.
      When I used to use Lightroom, it felt like a more cluttered bridge. Clearly I’m missing something since so many lean so much into Lightroom. Do you feel like Lightroom is better for organizing and culling than bridge?

    • @chrissetter
      @chrissetter ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Chev1220 Bridge's main benefits (in my opinion) are the ability to cull/organize/rename prior to importing your photos from the memory card and the UI may be run faster because it's less cluttered. Otherwise, Lightroom can perform anything that Bridge does. And you'd be correct, LR is a more cluttered Bridge, but with emphasis on batch editing.
      The biggest con to Bridge is to perform any edits, you have to manually open the camera raw menu. I'm not aware of any copy/paste/sync edits in Bridge. Plus, you can't quickly go from one edit to the next.
      Bridge makes sense to use if you don't have dozens-1000s of photos to edit.
      I don't use Bridge, but I SHOULD to save hard drive space since you can cull prior to importing photos. I'm glad you brought it up because I completely forgot about that program! I'll give it a try again.
      EDIT: I don't have much experience with Bridge so take my opinion with a huge grain of salt ;) It seems like a great alternative to LR.

    • @Chev1220
      @Chev1220 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chrissetter Thanks. I'm going to try lightroom again and see if it catches on. And you're right, Bridge does not have any copy/paste/sync edits, but Camera raw does. I usually select the photos from a shoot, open in camera raw and after editing one I can copy that edit across all the photos I selected and then go thru them individually if i want to change anything.

    • @lplazaj
      @lplazaj ปีที่แล้ว

      LRC is great for batch processing that doesn’t require a visit into PS. It’s automatically non-destructive and doesn’t create a memory burden. The downside is you must have a dedicated destination (example: active cloud or external drive) for the catalog. If those two ever get disconnected LRC won’t be able to work on the files. Unless you create Smart Previews.

    Thanks Colin. I can never find the crop tool in Camera Raw.

      That’s because it doesn’t show if you open in PS and choose filter- camera raw. If you open from
      Bridge or Lightroom, you will see it

    I can always depend on getting a useful tip but today's is a game changer for me. I do not know how many times I have asked for this but it looks like maybe I was not the only one. Thanks for highlighting the feature. Thanks

    So, what if we don't use lightroom ? Long time Bridge user, tried LR several times but always go back to Bridge. Can't see any way to open as smart layers, either in Bridge or ACR ! great vid tho', as always.

    • @photoshopcafe

      Right Click in Bridge and choose open as Smart Object. Works for most file types, not just raw

      @normski4ash ปีที่แล้ว

      @@photoshopcafe Sorry, right click in Bridge or ACR doesn't have that option !

      Plus there's no where to tell it which version of PS to use in the preferences.

    • @eartho

      you can only open as a single smart object layer from ACR. We've been begging Adobe for more than a decade to allow multiple layers from ACR, but they don't seem interested.

      @jensgaethje8555 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eartho open 1 file in ACR, open as smart object in PS. Then select multiple files in Bridge and drag and drop them onto the file in photoshop. Each file will be added as a smart object layer, one after the other. You just have to hit the enter button for each file, once whenASCR opens, then when its get placed in PS. Not fully automated, but close.
