Splice a sheathed wire to both cables on the high limit switch.
Turn off if you are smelling any unusual odors or smell gas immediately.
DO NOT KEEP RUNNING IT WILL NOT SHUT OFF ON ITS ON

where do i get a shielded cable? Does it need to be a certain type? Can I use any spare sheathed cable lying around the house?

That wire is 14 gauge wire and I definitely would only use shielded wires.
