    I went to a new secondary school in the late sixties. We were taken to school initially in the first Bedford coach and in the second year we were taken in the second Bedford.
    They were well past their best though when we had them. For the third year we had a new contractor with more modern coaches.

    you were asking for trouble with this one lol, covering such a wide area and also the definition of `bus`. Top marks for including Leyland Tiger half-cabs, and the Duple Vega. But I immediately think of the Burlingham Seagull, one of the first underfloor-engined coaches, which immediately made the charming old half-cabs obsolete. When I first saw it as a kid I was overwhelmed by the styling. It wasn't all about the past: the 1990s was a good time too, with the Van Hool Alizee, and the stupendous liveries which started showing up on Hong Kong double-deckers before the Chinese took over

    This post deserves a much bigger selection. I miss the old Double Deckers with open rear Platforms. How things have changed.

    What no Midland "Red". Bus company built their own buses and sold them to other operators under the brand name "SOS". When the M1 first opened they produced a coach specifically for a high speed service. See : midlandred.net/vehicles/fleetinfo.php?type=c5&operator=bmmo&page=overview#cm5

    tbh My interest in buses is really only what you might call 'passing-casual' but no London Routemaster? Surprising... The ones that I have the warm fuzzy memories of from my childhood though are CIE(Irish state-owned public transport outfit)'s Leyland Tigers, the big old open-platform ones with the navy'n'cream livery. They used to be green but that was before my time. Oh yeah, what about those old New York MTA alumin(i)um jobs with the rakishly tilted windows? For all I know they might have handled like a pig and had all the ride-comfort of an iron maiden but to anyone brought up on 70's US TV shows, they were WAY cool. Speaking of the US, why is it Americans seem to think double-deckers are a purely London, or at least British, phenomenon? My (American) wife even had to show this guy back home a postcard of Dublin to prove they have them in Ireland. Thing is, I don't know if they had them elsewhere in the States but I KNOW they had them in NY, at least in the 1940's, I've seen them in the Newsreels! Still, for that matter, who now remembers the (old) LA subway..?

      Soumya Chowdhury (Barry Holt ; I'm commenting via my wife's account, hence the change of thumbnail, etc.) Sorry mate, I didn't mean to put myself forward as any kind of expert, I like old buses and I've visited 1 or 2 transport museums, but the truth is I don't own a single book on the subject..! 😔 I don't know if any of them will be back this way any time soon but seems to me that just about everyone who's commented on this thread would probably be better qualified than me to make you a recommendation. For what it's worth, there doesn't seem to be any shortage of channels - or videos at any rate- about buses, which I realise isn't the question you're asking but I don't know exactly what your criteria are, is your interest more in the area of engineering, looks, design, antique, modern, 'coolness'? Or is it more like a general primer you're after? Thing is, I could view a bunch of videos about buses and recommend you one, but as things are at the minute though, on the subject of buses you've already seen my best game in my above comment 🤔! I'm being a little presumptuous here, and I should say I haven't personally checked out the video or your own profile but going purely by your name, might I venture that 'Indian Bus Archive' uploaded by DaveSpencer32 could be an interesting place to start, maybe? Sorry, I've waffled on rather given that I haven't really left you any wiser, but good hunting. Regards, B.

    Luckily, I lived in Europe in 1970-1971, and caught the tail end of a number of these awesome euro-continental designed coaches.

    The coolest body on a bus was almost exclusively built for the Scottish bus group and it's express runs into London in the late 1960s and 1970s it was built by W.Alexander and Sons and called the M Type and was built on various chassis with some examples rumoured as being capable of sustained 80 to 90 mph fully loaded

    A very odd compilation how can anyone compile a list of the "Coolest Old Buses" and completely leave out AEC, Bristol, Crossley and Dennis?

  • @cadlac59
    @cadlac59 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was sort of hoping the REO Bus range would have made your list.

    Not very good! You should have added double deckers, e.g. Leyland Titans PD2s & PD3s, Leyland Atlanteans, Daimler Fleetlines, Bristol Lodekkas & VRs, AEC Regents, Renowns & Bridgemasters. Try harder next time.

    Your video includes some good buses.
    I would also include: 5) late-1960s GM PD4501 Scenicruiser; 4) 1970 Setra S150; 3) early-1970s IH Loadstar Schoolmaster; 2) late-1960s 90-passenger Crown Supercoach; and 1) early-1960s full-length Flxible Clipper/Starliner.
    No good reason, I just like them.

    Yeah the human race really has got boring. It’s pretty bad when you can watch a video like this and even the buses from the past look so cool and have so much character as well. We might be all high tech now but design really has suffered. Excellent job on the video as always.

    Apparently, decommissioned US school buses must be repainted out of their yellow colour. Naff music spoils vid and any top ten bus video that does not feature a Routemaster is frankly garbage.
