    Excellent review guys. Really appreciate the time and effort you've put in to this video. I'm 15,000km in on my truck so far and this has given me food for thought moving forward with how I continue to build my truck. Happy and safe travels!

    Hi there. Great information. Glad you are living the dream. I have a 4x4 Mitsubishi Canter and yes it has the guards protecting the CV boots. We put extended springs in the front to give a better ride and recently genuine sheepskin seat covers which makes the seats more comfortable for longer periods of travel. I love my truck and can't wait to go full time touring. Thank you for the videos.

    You always do a great job guys, so we'll keep giving you those thumbs up 🙂
    A nice balanced long term review of the truck and the modifications to it. We've got the guards on our CV boots, but I'm going to improve the level of coverage they provide as they are not perfect by any means. We'll be interested to see the video on your recovery gear. Our truck has a hydraulic PTO winch and it's great for saving batteries, not so great if for some reason the engine is out of action and you need the winch! No plans in our future for a van and life on the road in one, but perhaps an additional review of your van might be good for others who are thinking along those lines.
    Looks to be a nice spot to spend time in lockdown, here's hoping you get back out on the road sooner rather than later. As soon as I catch up on a couple more things here I'll send some more reading material for those quiet nights. Safe stay, take care, A&J

      Gday A & J,
      I would love to have a PTO winch, I originally priced a hydraulic PTO winch, but it was way to costly…..
      We may to do the van, that is a good idea.
      Katty is keen for more reading, so that would be great.
      Thanks, Karl.

    With the accessory batteries powering the winch, if they're deep cycle lead acid I have an idea high rate discharge will injure them.
    With the snorkle, I have heard the genuine design greatly assists air flow, however that's not much help with a guts full of water. It strikes me there are a lot of joins in the clean air tubing, unless cracking is an issue a one piece may be better. And maybe mount the air filter assembley on the roof, we used the Donalson precleaners even on the primemovers, look uncool but they work well.
    Good review, Ive found Isuzu to be the best value for parts but inflexible on warranty, I'd still buy another one but of couse nothing is perfect.

      Gday John,
      Thanks for all the info.
      I found that the Donaldson pre cleaners work great when you are moving slow ( collect all the dust) but as soo as you get to highway speeds, all the dust gets stirred up and sucked in. I even tried the super big diameter ones, and same still happened?

    @garyjones980 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That was a well thought out review, thanks.
    I wasn't aware you were having issues with the fuel caps leaking. My first thought was that when your braking, the fuel is splashing up under the caps as the filler necks are both at the front of the tanks. Maybe a neck extension or a remote filler neck, this would further the cap from the fuel, reducing its potential to splash and leak.
    Just an observation, take care and enjoy those lovely avocados!!!

      Can you put something that fully deals off the neck inside the cap...e.g.
      www.huntingdonfusion.com/docs/HFTCorporate/Pipestoppers-Short%20Form%20Catalogue-WEB-P.pdf
      then weld on a 6mm hollow stub on the filler neck between the fuel level and this seal...
      run a thin 6mm fuel resistant hose up inside the canopy to the top of the canopy with a small replaceable plastic fuel filter as the air/dust filter...
      weld a small stub to the canopy roof bent over 180 degrees after exiting the canopy ..a miniature of what you see on underground fuel tanks at a servo?
      This breather is would stop suction/pressure as the fuel level changes in the tank from use and from expansion and contraction from temperature changes.....and to stop those persistent diesel fumes from making the dogs (and humans) nauseous.

      @nowhereboundtouring  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gday John,
      I get what you are saying, but luckily we will not have to worry about it. We will just swap the tanks over with ATW for ones that don’t leak, and hopefully that will be the end of it. 👍

      As you know these days the closed and sealed fuel systems with the charcoal canister form an integral part of the anti pollution gear, with the clicky screw cap and it's seal almost universal.
      Hard to lock those...but you could hide one under an enlarged filler neck...with the locking cap over the top.....Charger style!

    If your still concerned about intake leaks. While the engine is running, spray WD40 around potential leaks before the turbo and the engine speed will increase if it is passing into the engine. After the turbo, while the engine is running spray soapy water around suspect leaks and it will create bubbles at the leaks.
    I'm not familiar with the following but for the swivel hub boots maybe make and secure a heavy rubber mud flap on the tie rod to offer some protection. Could also investigate a metal but has potential to do additional damage if it comes off.

    The main reason I went for a Hino instead of an Isuzu (or Mitsubishi) was due to the flexing door problem, which Hino does not have due to the mirrors being further back on the door.........did not know the fix was so easy...lol....thanks for the tip.

    Karl, that was a brilliant no BS description of things, as usual you teach me new things every time. I had no idea the air filter housing had that one way valve underneath. When I'm able to do so, I intend to check out a retired CFA, NPS 300 which had as standard, a waterproof air intake fitted.
    I understand all (or at least some) of the CFA NPS 300 units were fitted with these as part of their fit out. CFA is Country Fire Authority, which is Victoria's volunteer fire brigade for those unfamiliar with the acronym.
    I too have worried about the front rubber boots on the CV joints.
    We changed our seats to Stratos units, in our single cab chassis version. My missus needs to have a duck board under her feet on the passenger side, because, as you mentioned, these seats are higher up. She too is quite short and she was adamant that she would not be able to operate the pedals and even sat in the drivers seat showing me her feet were just at the wrong angle and we had made a big mistake. Well, her first drive on some dirt track was a revelation; couldn't wipe the smile from her face. If ever we meet up, you can check our seats out.

    • @nowhereboundtouring
      @nowhereboundtouring  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gday Allan,
      It would be good to get some photos of the nps 300 air set up if you are able. The CFA trucks also have a B pillar strengthener ( internal roll bar, rephrased for vic roads) that I am very interested in.
      If we do happen to catch up, a seat test would be great. Thanks.

      Hi Josh,
      Trucks are good value for money. Slower, rougher, legal with 37’ tyres, but can carry way more. Can do 90+% of tracks you would normally do in a modded 4WD, outlast any landcruiser etc for sure.

      Thanks for the reply Karl. I think all that's left for me to do now is upgrade my license to get some hours behind the wheel. I feel like after that I'll know if it is for me or not. Will going for a LR license suffice to drive with a 7t gvm? All of the driving schools ive looked at don't offer LR for some reason
      More and more people are starting to catch on that trucks are a better fit for their needs. 90% is a very small compromise to make.
      Did you find a fix to protect the cv boot by any chance? Hopefully it's your video I'm thinking of that highlighted this issue. I've watched too many channels to keep track aha
      I've sent atw an email to find out if they can delivery vehicles interstate but I haven't heard back yet but I assume they're busy getting settled into the new year

      Hi Josh,
      A LR licence is all you need, but MR is the same test, and normally in the same truck, so most people just get the MR.
      No real solution for the CV boots yet.
      ATW can normally deliver interstate via your local Isuzu dealer.

    Am loving this series (watching the Truck Information video series), and using it for inspiration and research on whether to go down a similar route (I love the idea of truck + caravan). Question for you - what is the licencing requirement for this combination? Is it LR (Light Rigid), or MR (Medium Rigid)? Looking at the Isuzu NPS tech sheet for the GVM and GCM, this appears to be LR?

    Good insight, I've been playing with the idea of a truck, leaning towards Isuzu. I'm guessing you compared this truck against a canter and a hino, what made you go Isuzu? The iveco looked good until you see what owners say about them

    • @nowhereboundtouring
      @nowhereboundtouring  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jarrod,
      I was looking between the Isuzu , mits and Hino. Iveco was out due to reliability and service costs, but I was also after a 7.5t vehicle.
      Hino was to new to the market, only just being released. Mitsubishi is good and I was aware that the Isuzu was generally built with stronger components and has great reliability and spares availability within Australia, so I chose it.
      Now I would reconsider all three as they have altered their models ( but Isuzu still has the 5.2l motor) vs 4l for the others.

May or may not be all made in Japan but the blend and construction would be according to Japanese specifications (subject to bending of the quality instructions which is known to sometimes happen compromising the original construction instructions if made outside Japan).

    • @nowhereboundtouring
      @nowhereboundtouring  ปีที่แล้ว

      Gday Luke,
      If the truck is full loaded, and you have 3t on the trailer, it will not have enough power standard( in my opinion). You will need a remap. At 200hp for that sort of load, the truck will perform well. You will also need an airbag type hitch, to save your boat trailer A frame, and to help prevent excessive up and down movement of the front of the truck.

    Why did you go with the AMT rather than the manual ? Good to hear the upgraded transmission cooler is working out. Is this in addition to the standard cooler or did you reroute the cooling straight to your aftermarket one. BTW nice detailed review.

    • @nowhereboundtouring
      @nowhereboundtouring  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gday John,
      The cooler is in addition to the standard one. It is connected before the factory one, as I was concerned it may cool the auto too much in cooler weather. This way the radiator fluid will heat up the oil as it passes through if that is the case.
      The reason for the AMT was I was thinking into the future, when I’m slightly older and didn’t want the effort of a clutch. Katty also preferred the AMT.

    The front diff might be tricked into locking by a light application of the brakes while the wheel is spinning. The original Hummer had auto diff lockers that could be locked this way.

    • @nowhereboundtouring
      @nowhereboundtouring  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Steve,
      I have tried that, and it did not work for me. I tried all sorts of brake pressure and I could not really get the power to the wheel that had grip. It was in sand on a rutted hill…..

    • @allanhugh2044
      @allanhugh2044 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nowhereboundtouring Interesting as I have been stuck once in deep sand, I believe one front wheel was spinning and digging a hole, but I cannot be sure. Regardless, the front and rear axles were both stuck in sand, so I used tracks to get out. As my NPS 75/155 is manual, it is hard to operate the brakes and at the same time let the clutch out, apply throttle and lightly use the brake pedal; not to mention that the steering wheel column is also in the road.....
      My front axle also has a torsen differential, it is brilliant on slippery stuff, be that sand, mud or anything else. I think it is one of the best things and am thinking of adding a rear locker if I can afford it (justify it). With a rear locker and the torsen up front, one can pretty much guarantee movement to extricate out of most things and retain the ability to steer. With a locker on the front, steering is iffy. You can drive forward with a front locker as fast as you wish, but turning is problematic.

    • @nowhereboundtouring
      @nowhereboundtouring  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Allan,
      I found in sand like a beach, it works good. Only when one wheel is in the air, is where I have issues.

      Hi Marcel,
      I’m not sure if the doors are set up the same, but knowing Isuzu they probably are. If you remove one of the bolts retaining the hinge to the door, you will know. Below the bolt head, above the thread there is a locating bulge. The new bolts don’t have this, so there is extra clearance in the hinge bolt hole, which allows for adjustment. If yours has the bulge, simply replace them with standard style bolts of the same grade.

      I.e. if you need a 7.5t vehicle, then iveco would not suit ( although they are just releasing a 7t one I have heard).
