Gambit was ranked the 2nd highest Alpha level mutant.. but.. he was way stronger than that.. in reality.. he was Omega level but he asked ?Sinister? To damper his power level because it was uncontrollable.. There was an alternate untapped Gambit called New Sun/Son.. he was Omega powered.. Still my favorite dude in the X-Men.. And Doc was right about hulk and dark phoenix.. this was the 1st time these Characters have been brought to the screen.. we needed a visualization of Hulk and his rage.. we needed to see how evil and powerful Dark Phoenix was.. trash.. yes.. but.. they didn’t know how to deliver that.. we didn’t have Avengers or the MCU as a baseline.. they were shooting blindfolded.. and because of those movies.. we now have a baseline for the MCU.. they just needed a good story to tell.. And yall talked about Old Man Logan and Origins.. but yall forgot about Death of Wolverine.. classic arc that deserves to be mentioned..
You definitely make some good points! And shun a light on some Gambit tidbits that we missed. And yeah, with the reins of the X-Men franchise now being held in the hands of the MCU, I believe that one day we’ll get a better “Phoenix” adaptation down the line. Death of Wolverine was cool for what it was, but the way he went out was a bit anticlimactic. Instead of going down swinging, tussling it out with some bad guys, he died as an adamantium statue. Then he came back with heated claws? That soured the whole thing. But I digress lol
