  • Friends, enjoy this recording from one of the lates live concerts at the Birla Academy of Art and Culture in Kolkata.
As the concert took place near Purnima (full moon), I choose Raga Chandrakauns, a well known midnight Raga with a very own mood and charm, being associated with the Moon.
Big thanks to Baikharee for the invitation and recording, as well as to Mithun Chakraborty for the Pakhawaj accompaniment and Atreyee for the Tanpura playing.

That's a wonderful wish Aryan. However, since the art is long as the life is short, see that 'a few years' does not become a few years after college, after university, after getting a job, after getting married, after raising the kids, after finishing professional life, after life is over 😄

Why they don't play Veena without having Tanpura in the background? sorry for this silly comment but it's so distracting (even annoying) to me!

Ragadari music heavily depends on the presence of Tanpura drone not only as an acoustic background from which the Swaras of the Raga derive. It is also a measurement tool for the microtonal colouring of the Swaras as Shruti. Those enhancing the Rasa, the emotional expression of the Raga and defining it's Rup or form.

The chikari sounds are almost impossible to hear.

Indeed they are subtle here, not so dominat like in other recordings. But with good speakers or headphones they are clearly audible.
