29:28 The original professor didn't time travel, they were killed while protecting the non-aggressive Korai/Miraidon. They weren't unable to call Arven because they're lost in time, they were unable to call Arven because they're dead.

It would be interesting if this is revisited in a potential DLC where the other version's professor shows up as they avoided that fate in that version and therefore gets us involved in a different adventure.
Also, the AI is on your side, but the Paradise Protocol Program makes them attack the player when trying to shutdown the time machine
Yup, the squishy meat professors be dead as door nails...not to mention their obsessions with their ideals lead to some programing that lead to one of the most nail biting fights I've had in a Pokemon Game in a LONG time!! No seriously, I get through a full 6 pokemon team, my pokemon are basically down to my starter at half-health and a near KO Espion, and THEN we go for a 7th pokemon where I can't use mine and gotta rely on my MOUNT!?!? I did NOT know how to take that, especially when the Prof GOT A CRIT!! I KNEW THAT THING OUTSPED MINE!! I was facing a 2-shot and still had to Terrastrialize with no real idea if I'd have to do that WHOLE BATTLE ALL OVER AGAIN! Luckily I DID get the first shot next turn and Prof's Koraidon missed, BUT COME ON!!! That said, skin of my teeth did win, and then had to have that Mecha-mommy rip my heart out even harder afterward. Hadn't been that nervous about a Pokemon fight since back in the old days when I tried to capture Mewtwo and forgot to save in front of it!! Trust me, down to 2 Ultra balls from 99 to get a Pokemon in the old days was AGONY!! And Cerulean cave was PAIN without Max Repels.
One thing I hated about Scarlet/Violet was the lack of customization for your trainer's outfits. You're locked to the four seasonal variants of the school uniforms (which I hated how they looked in both games) with limited ways of customizing your appearance.
I also absolutely HATED this. I desperately hope they rectify this in a DLC. It's very rare for me to be absolutely disappointed or aggrevated by a choice in a Pokemon game, but this really bummed me out.
It’s also very hard to figure out how to change your outfit. At the beginning of the game I ran around mesagoza for like half an hour trying to figure out how to change my clothes until I gave. After beating the game and completing the Pokédex I finally taped the button to change your clothes to get rid of the stupid orange short shorts.

I know, right?!?!?!! I loved customizing my Trainer back in Gen 7 and 8. Having your clothes be restricted to school clothing just feels . . . Wrong.
@@IanDragonStar I hope much more in-depth character customization comes with the first DLC. It would be nice to just get it in a free update but I think more realistically if they are going to do it they would add it when they drop DLC, we can hope!
Never teared up during a pokemon game until that dang dog storyline. Literally soul crushing seeing a dieing animal.

Say what you will about the performance or graphics of this game, but the story and gameplay were absolutely top tier.
Something about the secretly dead dad storyline also got me
29:00 slight flaw there. The parent is not stuck in the past/future. They point blank died in the fight that weakened our mount pokemon
A couple corrections on the story, and why it's even darker.
First, the professor didn't actually time travel, they just straightup died. They were protecting the legendary you got from a more territorial one, and got themselves killed for it. The AI even brutally described how they got injured and died bleeding out.
Second, the AI isn't evil, it's actually comparatively reasonable and chill. They reveal is that its the original professor who was more deranged and obsessed. Despite their noble sacrifice, they still spent more time with their research than their own son, and had no care about the personal and ecological dangers that abducting Pokemon from different time periods would introduce. The AI didn't see eye to eye with their ideals, and decided to shut down the time machine for the safety of everyone, destroying the professors' dream in doing so. Tragically, it was the protocols that original professor made to protect their time machine that would override the AI and make it hostile against it's own will. There was such a powerful moment where the protection protocol was even going to kill their own son, and the AI angrily yells "Is your time machine the only thing you cared about!?"
And a running theory is that the original professor was being mentally altered by being around so much of the crystal and the possible third legendary. That their started to go from intrest to obsession. Which makes the death and everything all the more darker. They didnt even see the writing on the wall so to speak. Also messed up is what if the other parent didnt actually leave but was killed? These are dangerous mons after all. And if they cared they would have taken their son with them. Or maybe we see the other professor come back and poor arven can get a break... but will be interesting to see the dlc adds to the story.
You don't really need to make a single sandwich to get all 151 recipes. All you need to do is talk to the guy inside the sandwich shop, and then again once you get a single of each herba mystica, talk to your mom a few times throughout the game (or at the end), and then there's this NPC who gives you the last 4 recipes (the sushi sandwiches).
I have a feeling he didn't go talk to the guy in the sandwich shop AFTER getting the herba mystica. Slightly unfortunate cause holy cow that seems like a lot of herbs.
Yep, I only made sandwiches for which I already had recipes and still got all 151.

Since you mentioned the sandwich shop guy but not going home, your mom in game will give you a bunch of recipes along the playthrough. I wonder if some of the ones you were missing were from her.
I was so disappointed when I only found 147, I'm glad there's actually 151
My biggest complaint is that there are no houses you can enter aside from your own and the gyms. Makes the world feel more empty and I missed the npc interaction and finding a memorable one that would give you an item.
You can enter Nemona's house... not really anything to do in there but you can see a bunch of the pokemon she has caught.
On the flip side, police reports of random kids breaking in other people's houses are much rarer in the Paldea region.
games shouldn't teach you to enter ppl's houses without their permission....

From what I understood of the story, the same incident that injured Mabostiff back when Arven was young and visiting his parent, also killed the original professor. Which is why he has barely heard from them in years; the AI that took over has no emotional connection to Arven.
You are correct, I believe Jirard misunderstood
It's wasn't necessarily the same incident. It was the same pokemon though.
It was a seperate event. Mabosstiff got hurt before, then the professor went down with the dangerous legendary and died there. So there is a gap between the two events, but it was quickly after the professor left that they died, so it seemed like they left and forgot about them.
They're separate events.
First, he said he used to live in the Lighthouse with Koraidon/Miraidon and the Professor in secret before Koraidon/Miraidon accidentally escaped in public and broke the secret to some people. Because of this the Professor took Koraidon/Miraidon to Area Zero and never talked to Arven again, which is why Arven's trauma blamed the Pokemon for ruining his childhood. So he never went to Area Zero as a kid.
Later, he says he visited Area Zero to try and find his parent, but was attacked by (what we later find out to be) a Paradox Pokemon which injured Mabostiff. We don't know which Paradox Pokemon this is, but we do know he used the Flying Taxi service to escape from there, and mentions during the group dialogue something about if you just signal enough the Flying Taxi service come(which fits in canon as the player can fly out of there as well)
The fake professor actually tells Arven they shut him out to protect him from the truth.
I wonder why no one talks about unlocking your friends' rooms. It's just a few cutscenes to grt though but I think it ties up the story nicely to get to know what Nemona, Penny and Arven will do after the crater
The week before this game came out my dog broke her leg after being spooked by fireworks. So while streaming this game i was looking after my dog fresh from a leg amputation. Arvens story hit HARD!!

Of course you’re free to play the game however you want, but by trading for the entire dex you missed out of my FAVORITE part of the game. It was so much fun for me to explore the world and see all these Pokémon in their natural environments. It was also a blast searching out the harder Pokémon to find, I got such a rush finally finding them. Plus with all the exploring I even found a couple of shinies for my trouble!
I _almost_ agree, but there were a handful of Pokémon that were, in my opinion, just way too difficult to find. Like, trying to find Spiritomb for TM ingredients is just a giant pain in the ass that basically makes Dark Pulse not worth having.

@@drywalltele9435 it's the northeast face of Glaseado mountain (which isn't exactly easy to just leave and return to) with a >1% spawn rate, _only at night,_ in an area that also has Sneasel and Frosslass, so sandwiches don't even help. No matter WHAT you do, it takes for-goddamned-ever.

This is the first pokemon game I've actually played, and I absolutely love it. The technical issues are annoying, yes, but I finally get made everyone in the 90's fall in love with it.

Same, this game was also my introduction to the series.
"And Nemona is also there" This line cracked me up and also summed up my biggest criticism of the story. Penny and Arven have such interesting and hard hitting stories and Nemona while not bad, is just a battle junky who is lonely at the top. I'm hoping some DLC will flesh her out a little more or give her some new goal to pursue.
This was the most engaging Pokemon game storywise and is actually the first time I've ever looked at a Pokemon world and gone "People live here." Like there are ATMs and Post Offices we can't enter, gift shops we cant' enter that really just flesh out that there are people with lives outside your journey. I'm sad that this game didn't get the time and support it need from Game Freak/Nintendo because it is such a gem in every aspect.
"i hope the dlc-" no. pokemon is the most profitable franchise of all time, hiring decent writers cost them nothing. they purposefully cut content like story, pokemons and grafics so they can sell you that in a dlc because they know pokemon fans will buy whatever trash they trow.
Nemona was fine imo, she stayed out of the way for the most part (looking at you hop) and the concept of the rival already being champ level and trying to coach you up was a fresh take

There's lots of conflicting opinions, but Arven always stays as the best storyline. Personally, I liked Nemona's more than Penny's.

One of the many reasons that Pokemon has been allowed to get to this point is because it's VERY HARD to make them not fun
You can screw around, do all kinds of self imposed challenges and still have a grand time as the game @#$%^& disintegrates

I'm one of the fans who enjoyed arceus so much I'm hoping for another one like that, "legends" should branch off into its own series set in ancient times of familiar areas with the Arceus mechanics
My favorite part of the story is that when things got crazy it made sense why the four protagonists were doing it. Instead of a teen battling terrorists it was 2 champion level trainers (who are implied to the top 2 champion level trainers) a master hacker and the best boy who has the plot hook and can hold his own too.
I haven't played a Pokemon game since I was a child but after picking this up to play with the fiance I was honestly blown away at how much fun I was having & got seriously addicted to the game.. some of the best gaming moments I had last year in December despite all the annoying issues.. now I truly understand why people love Pokemon so much..

@@qwerttzizzi I enjoyed most of the cool looking Pokemon I've never seen before, the 3 main story line missions were alotta fun to go through, Co-op with the fiance was fantastic since she had the violet version, exploration & catching pokemon was surprisingly lighthearted & awesome, I played and ranked up to masterball rank on both singles & doubles pvp matches. 170 hrs in and I didn't feel like I wasted one minute of my time here. Despite its obvious flaws I had a amazing time..

You can get every sandwich recipe without cooking once, between the sandwich shop (normal sandwiches that progress with badge collection and special sandwiches after showing the man a herba mistica), your mom (vegetarian sandwiches if a recall right) and a random guy close to the casseroya lake (sushi oficianato, its is at the end of a dirt road that leads to the lake, it was a picnic table and a dratini, it gives the sushi sandwiches )

The Arven storyline hit a lot different since I lost my dog literally 3 weeks before I played the game. Never thought a Pokémon game would make me cry but Arvens story did it

I’m actually holding off on doing paths until _HOME_ linking comes out, so I’m just running around gathering the new ‘mons and helping my nephew do his first ever Livedex.
i think arvens story is the best one in the game, especially when you can relate to it so much, having lost my only pet dog two years ago from old age and not wanting him to suffer anymore
I almost skipped this game entirely. I didn't like legends arceus and I'd just about givin up on the pokemon games. But I figured I'd give the series one more chance before I dropped it. I have put over 400 hours into this game and still show no signs of stopping. It is so unbelievably fun that it's crazy. I'm a 35 year old OG pokemon fan and this game has taken the top spot from gold and silver as my favorite pokemon game ever. So yeah, I'm glad I didn't skip it.
Sadly mid December my shepherd/chow Sammy lost function of his legs and soon most of his body. We tried to nurse him back to helm with pain meds and rest but on December 30th we had to make the decision to put him down. It was super hard and I was only half way through Arvens storyline. I felt a lot closer to him after that and made it my top priority to save his dog. I honestly didn’t know what I would do if his storyline went similar to mine.
Damn, sorry. Lots of people losing their dogs/having them get hurt/sick around release of this game, seems like.
Really enjoying seeing Jirard's sense of humor coming back into the videos more regularly and throughout the videos. Couple of good lol's in this one as well as the last couple
Scarlet and violet had a pretty rough start in the performance department, but it had some really good ideas that makes it stand out from other games. Like having different paths you can choose from each with its own interesting characters and story. The actual content here is very fun and full of character as Pokémon should be

I've completed this on Scarlet and did a second main story playthrough on Violet not long after. I really, really loved this game and it became my second favorite Pokemon
I really enjoyed Scarlet/Violet. I love a lot of the new Pokemon, the new characters are great and the storylines were more emotionally effective than I expected. Team Star being made up of bullied kids only to be seen as the bullies instead by the school and staff hit a lot harder than expected. Arven doing whatever he could to save his dog also hit a cord as a person with dogs. The twists in Area Zero were really unexpected and made me glad that I was able to avoid spoilers relatively well for the storyline. I love exploring Paldea. The region feels like a natural evolution of the open world concept they started to toy with in both the Wild Area and the Hisui region. I like how there is this emphasis on exploration for each storyline and it feels rewarding. I do agree that the towns feel empty with so many buildings being just there for decoration though.
While the technical issues are apparent, I never came across anything that broke the game. The frame rate is more of an issue and is rather annoying. It's clear that the developers were dealing with such brutal crutch time and that is incredibly sad. I love Pokemon, but the well being of the developers should be more of a priority. That being said, I thought that Scarlet/Violet were still getting good reviews in spite of the technical performance problems. It was brought up and made the games controversial, but despite hearing about people demanding for refunds, I have still heard more positive reception towards the game. I could have missed more of the negative reviews in order to avoid spoilers though. Despite the technical problems, I think that there are a lot to love about Scarlet/Violet. I think that the games provide some cool ideas and mechanics that will hopefully be expanded upon in future titles. I think that in a lot of ways, Scarlet/Violet are still a step in the right direction for the franchise.

Pokemon violet is the first pokemon game in my life that i have 100% completed. Growing up I never had friends who played so i never had anyone to trade with to get those version exlusives or trade evolves or whatever else. But now thanks to discord its so easy to find people to help evolve or get pokemon you dont have, and i was able to complete the entire dex for once.

This is actually the first Pokémon game I’ve played where I finished the dex. I absolutely loved this game. I played it like a completionist, but I still need to get all the clothing
Bought it (I had hoped they would have improved since SwSh, which I didn't buy, and was hopeful because of Arceus, which I also didn't buy). Played it as long as I could bare. I don't know if people are blinded by nostalgia or what, but this game is shit. Apart from a few things here and there like making it easier to EV/IV train, it's like it sacrifices so much that its predecessors did to deliver on a cruddy unrealized 'open world'.
The battles are 'ok'. As long as they don't alter the core battle formula too much there isn't much room to fail in this regard. The battle camera is terrible, and was much better in earlier games when it was fixed on the action. The minimal UI doesn't help; it just feels like the disembodied HP bars were just pasted there like an afterthought. No option to change between switch and set. No option to turn off the exp share. Terastallization in theory is a very interesting kind of transformation, but after three games of one off gimmicks (mega-evolution, Z-moves, gigantimax) you just know its yet another one off gimmick that will go away because PC has to have their NEW gimmick to sell NEW games; health of the overall gameplay be damned. Also, the terastallization gem on top of Pokemon's heads looks super dumb and they should have spent longer than 5 minutes trying to come up with a way to communicate the tera-type.
The 'open world' is about the worst possible version of an 'open world' that you could have. It looks like someone made it in zoo tycoon with terrain height sliders, along with super generic textures and flora. Pokemon just haphazardly scattered around the world doing what Pokemon do best: walking around aimlessly or just sitting there doing nothing. Items are EVERYWHERE. It doesn't feel good to pick up these items when you can throw a rock in any random direction and hit 17 different great balls or pecha berries. Items on the ground in old games were something to go out of your way to get, because they weren't just scattered absolutely everywhere. The items in ScaVi just makes your trek through the barren open world a zig-zag rather than a straight line, stocking you with more items than you will ever actually need, so that picking them up makes you feel nothing but passing them all by still annoys you. Random trainers scattered through the world who are also just sitting there doing nothing. And no, this is completely different from the old games, because these trainers do NOT force battles. While in the old games trainers were obstacles that tested your endurance, in this game they are essentially just collectibles you have to find to earn some item for each zone.
Towns are barren. Just nameless collisionless NPCs walking around, and buildings that you cannot actually GO INSIDE. Again, realize that this is a direct downgrade from past games. Aside from some huge cities like Goldenrod, you could go inside EVERY building, and a locked door that you couldn't enter ALWAYS meant something. Gyms are now just cute little 'challenges' that have nothing to do with actual Pokemon battles, followed by one single battle with the gym leader. I did the gym where you have to go find the low FPS Sunfloras throughout the low FPS town, and then battle some grass gym leader who I remember absolutely nothing about other than his type. Gyms could be so much more. They could be high points in the story, with narratives of their own, but instead they are just goofy little challenges followed by the gym leader being amazed at your exp share boosted 'skills'.
The team 'whatever' hideouts (I honestly don't even remember their name) are also boring and lame. Just running around spamming the button to release their Pokemon to battle the randos scattered around everywhere. Followed by a basic battle that, for some reason, just doesn't work like other battles for no explained reason. I skipped ahead through various zones to fight the fire one, and I didn't have any type advantage, so I tried to use strategy. I laid down toxic spikes against the first mon, and then using strategic switching to lower the first mons stats and prevent being KOed, only for the toxic spikes to just not work against the second mon. Not because they were steel or poison or flying either, since I could still damage them with poison type movies. If you're going to just change how battles work on the fly for no reason, inform us about them before we waste our time trying to use strategy for what is nothing more than a basic bitch slugfest.
The story, or what little I'd seen of it, just reads like generic G rated tripe. No respect for their fans, be they young or old. Oh, you used type advantages in your battle with some random chick that suddenly just becomes your best friend for no reason? Well, you can sure BET that she's going to comment on how smart and skilled you are for using TYPE ADVANTAGES. Oh, you beat some tutorial level easy rando team 'whatever' member on your way up the steps? Well, the friggen school PRINCIPAL took notice of that, because apparently that makes you a prodigy or something. Oh, some rando motorcycle Pokemon legendary(?) fell outta the sky or something and you gave them a sandwich? Well hats off to you cuz apparently that means this legendary(?) pokemon imprinted on your or something because 'sandwich powers' or something. Now the sandwich guru needs you to travel the entire region for more 'sandwich power', because apparently you are just THAT awesome and THAT skilled and THAT kind. Emotionless speechless sameface protag from SuMo has evolved into emotionless speechless 'various emoji reaction' face protag of ScaVi!
Then of course the horrific performance and N64 level graphics. Do I really need to explain this? Pokemon is the largest media franchise in history, yet they release this unfinished mess. But everyone overlooks it because of nostalgia. They don't care that Pokemon company LIED to our FACES about why these new games couldn't have EVERY Pokemon coded into them. They just forget about Dexit because being a Pokemon fan is apparently their identity and they don't care about the quality of the games. They don't care that the Pokemon games are some of the worst designed games on the market just because they are riding the coattails of the battle system.
Pokemon ScaVi is a disgrace to Pokemon games AND open world games. Let me remind you of all the reasons why Pokemon ScaVi couldn't have been like BotW: NONE! Oh ya, the reason is because Game Freak wants more money, so they don't expand their tiny development team nor given them a sufficient amount of time to deliver on the quality of product that the Pokemon franchise deserves, because they want to have annual or bi-annual releases, because they know that millions of people will buy the games absolutely regardless of their quality. People get involved in the Pokemon community and love their time in the community, and they project that onto this bland unfinished uninspired shell of its former predecessors. Don't defend it. You deserve better. The Pokemon community deserves better.
The climax of the stories is actually really, really great. But yeah I agree with pretty much everything else you said.
@@oyeh8908 Lots of bad games or bad stories can have high points. I'm not denying that. But just like with all other forms of media, even if one part of the story is high quality in a vacuum, it doesn't mean much when everything around it had to be contrived shlock just to get it there. If anything, it just shows that the developers may have the ability to make good games with good stories, but they simply can't because they have to meet arbitrary annual deadlines.
Avens story hit my GF and I so hard, we also currently have a sick puppy with a liver shunt, and if the Herba Mystica was real, you bet that I would throw the rules of battling away and punch the titans myself!

Glad you like and and not saying you're wrong or can't have an opinion but it doesn't excuse the laziness nintendo, gamefreak and pokemon company have been getting away with because consumers allow them to. This was obviously nor ready for launch and should not be praised or recommended
While I did initially encounter a good share of glitches, every single one I encountered was just some visual glitch that didn't really hurt the gameplay. I just found them all humorous and would mash that screenshot button every time I encountered one.

Minor correction Jirad, Sada and Turo weren't sent to the past or future. They are just dead, they got in between the territorial struggle of a couple Koraidon/Miraidon and were killed.
Potentially. We never see their dead body and they were also killed via time machine so I think we'll probably see them in the dlc or a sequel. But yeah as of right now they're dead
I find the fact that they're dead so interesting for a Pokemon game. I know death has been mentioned before and whatnot. It's just interesting it's such a personal, tangible part of the story here.
@@pickedceasar1216 Do you need to see a dead body? Pretty sure station 4 being totaled is all that you really need, to know it happened. Hell, this isn't the first time someone dies during the game, such as one old man in X and Y who wants you to leave a Pokemon for them to look after for a while. Which after you beat the Elite 4, or pretty much the game in this case, and you head back to the same house with the old man. The old man isn't there anymore, and it's just your Pokemon in the Pokeball, with a left message. That, and his dialogue before giving him your Pokemon, is all but confirmed he either passed away, or took his own life.
No dead body found, but you don't need that to know he's gone.
Or do we need to bring up the ghost girl for that one Unova house, and when finding them on the bridge?

My point is it's a very popular thing in fiction to say a character died and heavily imply it only to later bring the supposed dead character back. We never saw them die and it happened during a time machine accident which means they could have been sent through time. Something that has also happened in previous games 😂
@@pickedceasar1216 Just saying it's that simple forehead. What they said, goes. Only reason to ever say "dead body, or not dead at all" is if they showed up at the end, or even remotely hinted at. Which they don't. And it's far too late to go "oh they were alive this whole time" at this point.
Besides, station 4 that's closer to the main lab at the bottom is your clear evidence, and does have a lot do with the Professor's death. Nemona comments on how it's broken from a battle. And if your counter point is that it could be any paradox Pokemon that came in to wreck it. Then tell me, why aren't the previous 3 you had to go through before were this destroyed as the 4th one? Because those wild Paradox Pokemon can't go in. So only way for them to be in, is if someone brought them inside, like say a professor with the first 2 Paradox Pokemon she already caught, which is Miraidon/Koraidon. So ensues the fight between two, which the shy one was beaten up, and the Professor dies protecting it.

Honestly, getting all of those trades at the very beginning, before even getting the ride Pokémon, takes a lot of time, so I'd personally say that it counts for completion 👍
Personally I think the Pokedex approach here sucks a good deal of the fun out of the game (seeing unknown pkmn in the wild, reading new dex entries, learning the diff habitats by hunting new entries, etc.) but this game is intended to allow people to play how they want.
I have really enjoyed this game even with the glitches (still playing it now), but I liked pokemon legends arceus so much more tbh. The only things I really missed in that game were breeding and online battles, everything else was so much better. But it had so many feature I think would make violet better, like the catching mechanics, item crafting, the flying (it was just better in that game), pokemon attacking you and being able to dodge it, alpha pokemon, clothing options, the shiny pokemon sound/sparkle in the overworld, etc. You should really do a video for that game!
Shiny Hunting is really fun in SV with the Sandwiches allowing you to make random Pokémon easy to manipulate what appears and then boost their shiny odds and Outbreaks make for another fun way to hunt. Just earlier today I spent 2 hours in 4 different outbreaks and got a shiny Clauncher, Oricorio, Steenee, and Florges
The cycle of divisive Pokémon generations continues indefinitely and me a casual player of the series who enjoys most of them is still confused about the divisiveness to this day
Crazy thought, but i noticed in terms of the dex. As you catch shinies, male/female forms, and even get different language mons, those add extra forms in the dex (i.e i have jpn, eng, fra, ita, and chs ditto and shiny ditto. It has a separate tab to see the shiny, and then a tab in each language for that entry) it might actually be insanity, but it seems like a 100% dex would involve getting every shiny and then getting every language version of each mon to be able to read every dex entry by language
It's such a shame that these two games are plagued by technical issues. If you ignore frame rate problems, crashes, and weirdness, literally every other aspect of Scar/Viol are the absolute best in the series. Story, character design, personalities, world map, raids (yes raids shut up it's not that bad just learn what is lag and what is purposeful input delay so you can cooperate with teammates, or just only raid with NPCs), every other part of this game is the best of the best for the franchise.
I love this game, it's just unfortunate how I need to put twenty asterisks on my love for it

I feel really bad for everyone who got technical issues because I experienced pretty much none of them except other things moving slow, and a single crash. I didn't even have frame drops or anything like that
I absolutely LOVED my time with the game. I still need to finish the post game stuff though. Haven't been able to convince myself to make time for it after I missed the Charizard raids.
I'm still on the fence about getting the game, but you did certainly make it sound fun.
man i usually love your vids but this was honestly sub-par, a lot of your complaints towards the end were 'i already had this pokemon so it wasnt very exciting' when it was YOUR decision to recieve the pokemon from your fans, ofc the joy of catching it would go down if youre just handed the pokemon instead of earning it dude! this hardly counts as a completionist run if you arent the one ontaining everything yourself. sure you eventually caught it yourself and that helps, but you cant be going 'oh no its not exciting cause i already have it' because thats not how most people are going to feel!

I literally just competed the dex yesterday. And jirard comes out with a video today's a good day.
Scarlet and Violet were the first new generation of Pokémon games that I wasn’t planning on getting because of the backlash. I was previously disappointed with both Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield, with Gen 8 being my least favorite generation in the series, so those factors didn’t help me get excited for any new Pokémon games.
But I ended up getting some Christmas money and I decided to buy Violet since there weren’t any other games out that interested me. And I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised. I went in expecting to maybe tolerate them slightly more than Sword and Shield, but the open world, character designs, new Pokémon, and simple but nice story came together to make me love the experience. Yes, the performance issues are annoying, but they rarely got in the way of my enjoying the gameplay, and barely affected my overall experience.
Maybe it’s just recency bias, but these new games have made Gen 9 my third favorite generation in the series, behind Gens 4 and 5. So I am really happy that Jirard ended up playing these games, too.
I chalk it up to the fact that not only did they seem to make new animations for EVERY MON but also gave all of them real textures.
That and the lack of time they had to work on it. It was released the same year as PLA (and yes, they were the devs for that, but not BDSP), which in turn came barely 15 months, just over a year after the SwSh DLC finished. In the span of 3 years, they released SwSh, gave it 2 fair sized DLCs, released PLA, gave it a fair sized free DLC, then released SV, while some of the team helped with BDSP despite it coming from different devs. That includes making 111 new Pokemon between PLA and SV and two open worlds (one mostly open for PLA, one fully open for SV), as well as a ton of new mechanics between both games, and given their release schedule, likely not even having their full company available for it, as the work would have to be split between the SwSh DLC, PLA, and SV, including the patches for SwSh and PLA, and odds are they didn't even have everyone working on SV even after PLA's Daybreak Update as they likely had already begun pre-production at least for gen 10. The fact the game even functions is a miracle, let alone looking so great outside of the bugs and glitches.
@@Kahadi I actually have a theory that Scarlet and Violet got Sonic 06-ed. That is, the dev team was split in half - one side making PLA, the other making SV, and it was rushed out to be released near holiday season.

Can I recommend that your writers check the trailers for pronunciations? They say the region name and professors names there you can reference.
Since the game is also Spanish inspired might have been good to consult a Spanish speaker for some of these words with Spanish origins.
This is actually the first Pokemon I chose not to buy. I know they'll keep making games without putting that much effort, since they know they'll sell great, and well, not a fan of that.
If they ever make more spin offs like Legends (or Colosseum or XD please), then I'll actually be interested and hopeful.

I love the goofiness in the dialogue around the 19 minute mark where he starts talking about the transformation of the pokemon and the mechanics. It got a hard laugh out of me.
The names of the paradox Pokemon are literal placeholders. The professors had to call them something while they were researching them, but they didn't get far enough to figure out what their proper names should be before they died.

I had been hearing about all of the issues and fan bashing of the game, but I still bought it a month ago to play with my girlfriend. It was her first pokemon game and she loves it despite the issues and honestly, that's enough for me.
Also, on the topic of the music, the Tera Raid music specifically, I love it. Its my favorite song in the game. It also sounds like the Blend S opening and that's funny to me.

Funny. xD I absolutely hated it. Even Sword and Shield were better in my opinion. Absolutely no postgame is very poor in my opinion. No NPCs to talk to, no explorable houses, empty cities. It's open world but it's less explorable than even the first generation in my opinion.

i remember I played this game a couple days after my cat had died, I had had him for just about 16 years, and seeing Arven and his MAbostiff hit very hard to me, as my cat wasn't doing well and wasn't eating, culminating in him having a seizure and deciding to put him down and out of pain. I remember sobbing at Arven giving him the sandwich, and Mabostiff getting better.
I wish I had sandwiches like he did, maybe my Zack would have gotten better, but in some weird way helping Arven helped me grieve.
This is the third game where the "Team" isn't even an evil team. The games had antagonists, but the "Team" has been more of just a group of misfits trying to belong or sports fans. The classification of "evil team" is really outdated at this point.
Are you going to be doing a video on Arceus? I quite enjoyed this newest entry but for me, Legends Arceus has the edge. I'd love to see your take on it and I'm sure I am not alone in that regard

ive played every pokemon game since red/blue and this is the first time i completed the whole pokedex. within 2 weeks no less!
In terms of sandwhich you can talk to sandwhich guy with the mystica in inventory to get all recipes which need mystica. And talk to your mum after beating the game gives you some recipes as well and finally near the big lake there is a guy who gives you the sushi sandwhich recipe no need to make any sandwiches
39:25 why should they? Scarlet and violet have shown that they don’t have to try as people will still buy them just because their a Pokemon game’s, the gaming community is rewarding bad practices when they really should be punished for putting out such a broken game.
Great review I really enjoyed Pokemon scarlet and violet but they do have flaws and while I didn't have as much problems as others did and it didn't bother me that much I do hope Game Freak get more time to work on their games in the future.

I completed the Pokédex mostly from mystery and link trades. that link trade code sheet Austin John did was a life saver. I only made sandwiches to speed up egg hatching. I stumbled into bases and smashed them. This game was fun, despite the lag and tech issues. I hope we get DLC and a big update patch like is rumoured to be soon. Maybe I did it wrong but I loved it!
