There is no autotune with Gåte. I also enjoy the end more than the start - it is the natuarl way to top it - full throttle. I'm just letting my self go in the song and being dragged into whatever they are doing. Amazing! Thanks for the reaction!

I love eurovision so much because it really is a way to learn about so many artists from so many countries. There's no way that I could just naturally encounter Gåte otherwise, but thanks to eurovision I did and now it is one of my favourite bands❤

After having listened to all the pres, this was my favorite of all, but I didn't see it as a possible winner. The Norwegians have given me a pleasant surprise!
And I was also a bit afraid of how they were going to perform the song, remember that the original lasts 5 minutes, almost double the standards at Eurovision! and I think that's why it sounds so frantic at times, in the original version there is more space and more evolution in the song in general. Nevertheless, this is my fav to win ESC at this moment.

Gåte have been amazing live performers since 1999 so claiming that Gunnhild will struggle without autotune is just ridiculous. Her voice is out of this world, and I'm confident that she and the rest of the band will blow everyone away in Malmö.

She's singing without autotune. The folk music way she's singing would not work very well with autotune. It makes it more "flat" (they've tried it in the studio, and it sounds off/strange).

yeah, knowing NRK they probably used less than professional (read adolescent) juries to save money and they voted for party music. In my opinion all jury votes should be banned, why should a little handful of people that has about the same knowledge of music as the local butcher get so much power. It goes against every single thing music stands for.

4.5/5.A bit different than what Norway usually send and it will definitely stand out considering it looks like we're not going to have many bands this year.Captivating in every sense, visually impressive and Gunnhild's vocals are powerful and intense.
    Prediction: Top 5-10

    • @Youtube_Stole_My_Handle_Too
      @Youtube_Stole_My_Handle_Too 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

It all hinges upon whether the atmosphere in Europe assumes an unusual and peculiar demeanor this year. I concur with your assessment. I estimate the likelihood to be between 5 and 10, as the ambiance appears excessively somber, potentially deterring the younger demographic, who may forget to vote. Nonetheless, should there be a prevailing appetite for a spine-chilling experience this year, it could result in a landslide. Conversely, there exists a possibility of a failure to qualify, given the argument that the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) is traditionally associated with jubilation. Undoubtedly, Gunnhild's vocal prowess is remarkable; however, it stands as the sole remarkable aspect of this contribution. In all other aspects, I assign a rating of four to three stars. I maintain that winning is not paramount for Norwegians; rather, they take pride in imparting their cultural heritage to continental Europe. In this regard, merely qualifying constitutes a triumph in itself. Consequently, if Norway secures a spot in the final, they are likely to be exceedingly content. Any further accolades would be regarded as a bonus.

Thanks for the great review! As for how Gåte will do with the jury votes at Eurovision, we got a little 'preview' with the international juries that called in which was truly a 'mixed bag' with some juries not even giving them any votes at all while a number of other juries gave them 10 and at least one 12 if I recall correctly. They came in a good second place overall with the jury votes which wasn't that bad and the televote was just barely enough to put them over the top. (6 points total against KEIINO!). So even here, the jury votes were significant. One might wonder if the fact that KEIINO was much more 'well known' (than Gåte) to the jury members might have helped ... Gåte coming out of relative obscurity. I did think the singing, staging and performance elevated Ulveham massively.

I appreciate you find the ending part too intense, but imho the story ending with the maid/wolf ripping out her pregnant step mother's heart and thus drinking his unborn half brother's blod, is the reason behind the intensity. Would be weird to sing these lines with some calm music 😊

I am so happy this won! It is so cool we get some pagan folk rock in Norwegian at Eurovision. Norway took a risk and I hope it pays off. I agree with the performance being a bit too frantic towards the end but that is fixable with camerawork and lighting. I don't think they need to change much. Some tweeks here and there to elevate it but it's pretty much copy paste ready. I love the darkness of the lyrics and the ominous dramatic vibes of the performance.
I love the vocals, how it feels like howling in some parts, and to be fair If I had to unalive my stepmother who was carrying my unborn halfbrother so i could drink his blood and lift the curse she put on me i would probably howl like a frantic maniac too....😂 I hear you sis.
Is this for everybody? No. But it doesn't need to be. The audience for this will bump it up into the top 10. At least I hope so, because this is top 10 material imo. I would love for this to win but I am realistic about all the reasons it probably won't. But still, so far this is my winner ❤

Guaranteed Top 10, I'm happy it won MGP. It's a great vibe, very atmospheric. To the lyrics, of course, a text that is basically a millennium old doesn't give them an advantage. Plus, she's talking about drinking the blood of her half-brother, her dad's kid, which her stepmother is carrying to term, not her stepbrother.

People should stop talking about the autotune in MGP, and all you guys with podcasts and youtube-channels should also take note of this: using autotune is optional in MGP. Not everyone chooses to use it, also Gåte has performed since 2002 and are one of the best live bands we have in Norway and is also probably the most established and famous name we have had in the contest EVER! They dont autotune their vocals at all. Also, for Gåtes performance, i miss comments about the amazing energy of the guys, jumping around, and Magnus throwing his guitar 5 meters up in the air and catching it again, and so on... they are insane and it all works so well. I am probably going to offend a lot of people here...but Gåte is a better live band than Måneskin for sure!

It’s based on a song from the Middle ages. A stepmother is jealous and cast a spell on her stepdaughter and makes her into different items, example a sword. Every time she is still preferred by the King/people, in the end she makes the girl into a wolf that lives in the woods. The only way to break the spell is if she drinks her brother’s blood. One day the stepmother passes the woods and the girl/wolf eats the stepmother’s heart. The twist is that the stepmother is pregnant with a boy, therefore she drinks her brother’s blood and is free from the spell.

Totally agrree on the staging part, or the tv pictures that we saw , its quite too much, but I think that the biggest issue is that NRK always seems to have a problem transforming the essence of the song on stage, and yes, they should have more close ups on Gunnhild, its hard to connect with her when we dont see her. But hey, they got time to make this even better ;)

apparently, her vocal technique is influenced by a traditional herding call, kulning, and a norwegian folk vocal technique, kveding. both are appropriate given the lyrics
