Another great video! Thanks Mell. Could you possibly do something on greying curly hair....the science behind why it changes so much when greys start to take over the natural colour? I know you are young and don't have to worry about this right now, but it's something that is lacking in your menu of videos and I know you have fans who got the greys too! Love your style!😊

The unsung hero of my curly routine has always been non-aerosol hairspray (aka, spritz.) These provide a stronger hold and really lock your style in place. Pantene’s version is affordable and very effective. For me, it’s curl cream, gel, and hairspray to finish. My wash days usually last a whole week this way.

Hi, love your videos. I'm a fellow hairdresser myself and I have similar hair to yours and your sisters, I just want to answer myself and say I personally hate hairspray even when my hair is styled straight. I always feel like i have to rewash my hair,(when i used to get it done and they would spray it). So i wouldn't think to use it in my curly routine. I like my curls soft and bouncy actually and my texture it just doesn't like hairspray lol but I like how you explain it and everyone's curls are different to. I would love to see other people using it to see the style and hold it gives others.

I love hairspray. It gives me more volume and some protection from frizz. And keeps it in place. I was a teenager in the 80s and had big hair and used a can a week. Though I didn't use the best hairspray back then but there weren't many choices. 85 cents for extra super hold aqua net. But once in a while, my mom would buy me sebastians' shaper hairspray from the hair salon. Aqua net would leave build up on my hair. Now I use much better hairspray. Ha ha

And here we go for another hair product
I mean how many other product do we still need to finally achieve "the perfect hair goal"???
The last year it was the Denman brush now it is the wet brush
    Bonnets pillow cases
An infinity long list of shampoos scalp exfoliants conditioners masks
Serums creams olaplex k18 heat protectants leaving conditioners
    Gels
    Gel cream
    Brushes
    Combes
    Scalp brushes
    Microfiber towels
    Even steamers
And some how we still find more products to fill the list with
Can we just have some rest and let our hair be the way it want to be? Have we ever asked ourselves if our ancestors who used to wear their curls proudly used all this products? I don't think so!

But what works for me & gives me perfect curls is Mousse & Hairspray! That’s it, That’s all. And my curly hair looks perfect with just those two products and lasts for days, sometimes a full week. I also notice when I moisturize my hair before styling l, it makes it frizzy smh… so I converted back to the same Regimen that I used my whole entire life. You have the choice to NOT be influenced by these influencers/youtubers. They create videos on this topic so that we are aware of the products and get some reviews, in no way they're trying to force us to use any product.
I just stick to affordable daily shampoo, clarifying shampoo, conditioner, mask, leave in creams and gels. That's all. Once in a while I try new brands because I get bored of using same old stuff. It's your choice after all how you choose to do your hair. My friend has curly hair and isnt into CG much. She just conditions her curls and let them be just like that. What you want to do with your hair is your decision. And it's influencers job to keep talking about new products, brands, techniques and trends but who said it was mandatory to follow it all?

this is what i needed! i have fine 3A low density, high porosity short hair and on my washdays, my hair is so soft even a droplet of finishing oil will make me look like a marinaded salmon 😂 so i indeed used hairsprays a few washdays in a row to finish my prepoed, washed, conditoned, styled and diffused hair. In the beginning it was a gamechanger, got me tons of volume and grip but after a few weeks that benefits turned to greasy, lifeless looking curls...
stopped hairspray turned back to oil to finish.
what i figured, was to commit to deepconditioning weekly (which i notoriously skipped).
That really helped me encourage my more big and loose curl pattern to be moist and nourished, but within the second, third and so on washday they get the grip and volume naturally from sebum and oil from the head!
But im keen to use and try hairspray in different variants again!
    THX Mell ❤❤❤

OMG! Back in the day, hairspray was all we had for hold, well, that and Dippity-Do. My hair falls into my eyes, ALL THE TIME! I've been using a clip to hold it back, but I'm always afraid it will screw up my curls where it's clipped. So, I've started using hairspray to hold it back. It works for a about a day and if I spray it well enough, I can get it to last for the next day, as well, after I take my bonnet off in the morning. One of the tricks we use to do for making sure the hairspray dried before it weighed the hair down or messed up our style, was to take a hair dryer on low setting and cool setting if your hair dryer has it, and just carefully wave over the hair where it is sprayed. It takes like 2 seconds, and VIOLA, dry hairspray and hold! I still do this, just in case. LOL!

Mell let me ask it this way, if there was a tier list for types of curly products. S tier being the best A being 2nd best, B, C, D and E following. What teir would hairspray be on?
And yes I just watched TierZoo's newest video😅

I have only recently started to play with stylers to embrace my waves. Nobody in my family had wavy or curly hair so all stylers and how to style were foreign to me. Hair dressers were no help who would style me straight years ago. So I just went product free for years. It's only since I discovered the curly girl method and saw styling videos on TH-cam. And I grew up in the 90s when gel was supposed to leave your hair crunchy, and hairspray was so your hair won't move at all. I feel like embracing my waves has me embracing my waves and taking an entirely new mindset regarding stylers that I always felt were bad for my hair due to buildup.

How long does the hold typically last with a hairspray? Isnt it typically a day? How bad is the buildup to use mulitple times in between wash days?

Hi Mell! Why do I get so many split ends right after a haircut?? I get split ends so fast although I'm doing everything right. Can it be stress related or nutritional? Thank you!

How would you use a hairspray vs a texturizing spray like the living proof one?

What do you think about root spray touch ups? I use loreal root touch up spray in between my hair dye appointments. Are they bad for your hair? I'm concerned because I' ve just had surgery and my hair is falling out excessively, but I was warned it would and I'm doing everything I can to help it go through this temporary process, but dont want to do anything to make it worse.

i love using hairspray for smoothing frizz. Oils & serums help w/ softness & shine, but don't really help (me) enough w/ frizz.

No matter how light hold or non sticky/crunchy or soft my hair feels. Using a hairspray always makes my hair an absolute nightmare to de tangle on the next wash

I have avoided hair spray since starting curly journey because my hair gets drier same day and next day, I don't like the feel of my hair in terms of stiffness. Also yes wanted to reduce use of aerosols.

Is a finishing spray a must? I don't use them and my hair is so stiff and hard the 2nd/3 rd day.. The first day it's very soft and all, from the second day onwards my hair is so rough to touch. I feel like I will break them if I run my hands on them.. Why does that happen?
My routine, Shampoo (wow apple cidar shampoo, conditioner (palmers coconut) , leave-in spray (giovanni) and or leave in cream (cantu) , curl activator cream (cantu) , finally a mousse (wella professional) ..once it's dry I sometimes use jojoba oil to finish..
I have also been facing hair thinning and have started scalp routine.

Hi Mell, this isn't about hairspray ❤ I need to know how to wear a hat without killing my curls! Can you do a video about that please? I live in Australia and desperately need sun protection without the hat hair.

I know Mel has mentioned before that you can find some hats that come with a silk/satin lining that can help protect your curls while you're wearing a hat. A quick google search is bringing up satin-lined ball caps, bucket hats, and beanies. Good luck!
