  • Need a WiFi or Bluetooth enabled device that will turn a regular old garden hose faucet into an automated irrigation zone? We first tried B-Hyve which was very difficult to setup, but once done, worked flawlessly and there are NO MECHANICAL ISSUES. Unfortunately we couldn't find another and we are not sure if they are no longer making them, so we ordered Irrigold Smart Water Timer from Amazon. It had good reviews and was the same price as the B-Hyve.
    Here's an unboxing and setup video that shows the good, the bad and the ugly of this device. While it looks great and the app was very easy to understand and use, there were some critical physical things that make us doubt this product. Watch to the end to see what happens!
    It's being used in our greenhouse for orchids, tropicals, subtropical, houseplants, etc. Can also be used to control a sprinkler, drip line and many other irrigation components.
    Please like and subscribe so I can grow and bring more videos…
    UPDATE: Even though our system only runs when scheduled, the app still is giving us notifications that the device valve has been going on/off even during the times it's not schedule. However, upon inspection, nothing is happening with the valve. It's a flaw in the app that gives "ghost" updates. It works when expected, only on the programed times. There needs to be an update to fix this ghost notification!

    The leaking is not due to plumbers tape. You need to add a hose gasket.

    So cool to have wifi controllers almost everything now. Thanks for the review on this hose controller.

    Leaks with garden hoses are so frustrating. I’d try using two washers. Sometimes I never get the lease to completely stop. Garden hoses just seem like the wrong technology for a waterline that your going to leave on all the time. But I’m with you in the struggle as I’ve not found a better solution.

      awesome to hear i'm not alone :) you know the weird thing... as soon as i put on just enough of everything i was trying and it stopped leaking, it has never leaked again once... and i am not touching it again until it does lol lol

    I was having problem with leaking at the connections. Try adding an additional washer.

    Are you sure you have the right threads on the metal connector? If it was difficult to turn and you even put plumbers tape on i'm going to assume it's not the correct thread There doesn't need to be plumbers tape on the connector that goes to the faucet. EDIT: I see you actually used a rubber washer like you're supposed to and it stopped the leak.

      Any time and I am so glad I was able to help. You know I’ve been watching Amazon and they change the brand name so often it is definitely suspicious. I just bought a better quality one myself. I’ll try and do a video of it. Glad you did the same.

    Are you sure you get the right connectors ? if you mix 11.5 TPI and 14 TPI that's the result you get : continous leaking. Seeing your timer's male threads (0:53) you got 14 Threads per inch timer, which is the internation standard for hose system. If you're leaving in US - Canada hose threads are 11.5 TPI. Check that, it's quite easy to see the difference withour measuring.

    You skipped a lot of steps on adding the gateway, please show it SLOWLY!!!

  • @jeanveilleux6809
    @jeanveilleux6809 ปีที่แล้ว

    At 3:38 I would bet your faucet is 11.5 TPI ! You can screw mixed threads but it's always leaking.

    Can you use this from anywhere in the world ? Or you have to be near the device?

    • @FancyPlants
      @FancyPlants  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s an excellent question. The Wi-Fi part of it is supposed to make it from anywhere in the world but I’m telling you this all of these devices that say they’re both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are buggy and most of the time you have to use just the Bluetooth, would you need to be 150 feet from the device. Not so global. 😂

    If I connect via Bluetooth and set the time, but the Bluetooth is cut off, does it return to the default settings?

    • @FancyPlants
      @FancyPlants  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe once you set the settings, including the time, it will all stay even if the Bluetooth or Wi-Fi goes down. Those settings are stored locally I think.

    The wifi hub won’t connect for me. I can only control these over Bluetooth. The wifi hub gets to 100% of the pairing and then says the device timed out.

    • @FancyPlants
      @FancyPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sucks! So odd! I heard there was a problem with household that have 5 GHz instead of 2.5 GHz. Do you think that has anything to do with it?

      @@FancyPlants so I got a replacement from Amazon and I think the wifi hub was just bad in the first one. I can now control the timers through 4G LTE with the new hub connected to my wifi.

      Unbelievably ignorant.
      The reason it’s leaking there is a rubber sealing washer that’s either missing or…. You have so much tape on it it can not bottom up against the sealing washer.
      So simple.

    I do own the Orbit B-Hyve XD 24511 that I bought from Lowes along with the optional WiFi. Does Irrigold has automatic rain delay and rain gauge? I noticed that the Orbit B-Hyve XD 24511 is not as weatherproof as compared to Irrigold. Should I switch, because the HOT SUN did damage the LCD Screen on the Orbit B-Hyve XD 24511.

    • @FancyPlants
      @FancyPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are very good questions and I’m going to have to research that. Since I use it in the greenhouse I didn’t check for rain delay but I think I remember reading it does. I do not think it has rain gauge however. We also have both of our Wi-Fi irrigation controllers in a shady spot so I can’t talk about the sun issue with those but we do have another brand up front that gets full sun but he has a protective covering on the front and it’s doing OK years later. It’s not WiFi though :(

    Can you show us how to program a dual water timer? The front lights do not go on mine?.

    • @FancyPlants
      @FancyPlants  ปีที่แล้ว

      Which brand do you have? This brand caused a water leak a few weeks ago which will cost us hundreds of dollars. We were away when it just busted and water was everywhere. I would never buy this one again. I bought one that was more heavy duty and twice the money but I think it’s going to be worth it.

    • @scifithoughts3611
      @scifithoughts3611 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The device doesn’t automatically turn off watering due to weather. It’s all up to us to manually tell it to take a break. 😑

      Totally get it. I’ve heard a lot of people experiencing this. And the sucky thing is that mine is set and I can’t touch it because every time I do, I go through the same thing you’re going through. It’s awful with Wi-Fi and almost never works with Bluetooth. It was working OK when I first got it, but all of the updates have almost disabled it completely. Hope you get it to work.
