  • Since I have had multiple requests for Watercolor Tutorials, I thought I would begin with this WATERCOLOR 101 Lesson for the Absolute Beginner / Part 1.
    Before diving into watercolor (or any medium) it is best to get a good foundation of the basics, and in this video I hope to do just that. Here you will learn about....
    1. Watercolor Products
    2. Color Basics
    3. Color Mixing
    4. Palette Arrangement
    So, I hope you have fun mixing color, playing and creating Color Caterpillars (which is a fun and educational way to learn about color mixing).
    The next lesson (Part 2) will be painting a landscape using only 3 colors! So be sure to subscribe and hit that bell icon for notifications of future videos.

    Loved the intro to watercolours! I’ll be doing all the caterpillars with the wet and dry pallets I have. May try to get the graham and co another’s in SA. I am really excited to learn more quickly! I am also curious how water colour works with dry pastel. Can’t wait to watch part 2!!!!!!

      Enjoyed this so much. I have watercolors that have been sitting on the shelf and I've been having trouble getting started using them. This gives me some inspiration to take them out of their box and actually use them.

      @@acatinthecradle wonderful! Often we need to just play with our art supplies instead of getting so serious. And often in playing is when we’re actually learning. Hope you have fun with this!

    I have a slightly dumb question - what's the difference between something like Artist's Loft pan palette from Michaels vs tubes, especially the "nice" brands? I see a lot of people saying quality importance is paper > brushes > paints. Is it like McDonald's vs a Michelin restaurant?

    Hello Susan, I want to ask you if you recommend 100%cotton or RAG papers? I must disagree that cheap papers are OK to use for starting out. I have had students in the past that insisted that they were told the paper did not matter! I have had struggled with pulp papers in my watercolor painting experience. You end up fighting the paper and the paint moving on the paper. WHY struggle when just upgrading your paper will eliminate so many of your problems? I do not believe every beginner needs Arches top of the line paper to start out, but I suggest they avoid pulp papers until they really KNOW what they are trying to achieve and do they need more expensive papers? Well I do enjoy your videos and really appreciate your pastel expertise, Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge with us all.

      Yes, I agree with the 100% cotton paper for serious work. I should have clarified that this tutorial was mostly for mixing colors. I know that many of my subscribers are on limited budgets and I didn’t want them to feel they have to buy new supplies to practice. I’ve got Arches paper that I’ll use in the next Tutorial. Thanks for your input friend.

    Thanks so much for doing this series. Does the water type matter? I've heard distilled should be used to avoid future mold. Is this true? Also Daniel Smith (I believe) is supposed to be good quaity wc but maybe more than I need to begin. I've learned from you to invest in the best materials we can afford.

    Hello, what is the gray, dotted table top that you are using? What kind of a material is it? Rubber, wood, etc? And why did you use that item? Because I see variiations of it on everywhere.. Thank you

    • @monetcafe
      @monetcafe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, the gray mat is called a healing mat. It’s awesome for cutting things on top of your table without damaging your table. Plus the cut marks seems to magically heal.
