Gary didn't write it either. It was a girl named Peppermint! Can't you tell this is a woman's song? Listen to Jo Baker's version, then you'll realize it is a woman's song.
Peppermint Harris was a man. The original by Fenton (mislabeled Fention) Robinson is more up-tempo/jump. I don't know who first slowed it down, it could be Albert. He changes a couple of lines. All later covers follow Albert's version. On this track it's Mike Bloomfield on guitar, Al Kooper piano. Charles Brown was a famous piano player. If there is a Charlie Brown who played this, he's a white guy with the same Les Paul sound as Bloomfield.
Great version, Al -- I wouldn't call it 'psychedelic blues' -- just good blues. So many great songs, bands, and artists this man was involved with -- a legend in music!
Barry Goldberg and Mike Bloomfield did an album in the '60s called "2 Jews Blues." Could've applied as well to Mr. Kuperschmidt and Mr. Bloomfield...a couple of nice Jewish boys..."Jews Brothers" is more fitting, IMHO.
Been listening to Kooper since BS&T ,Super Session, and saw him in the nineties in S.F at the Warfield when he was on tour as a member of Joe Walsh's Band . He has some stories about Joe's drinking days. Great Musician and enjoyed his lifes work.
Soooo good on Headphones. Love the photo choices. Like a movie with such poetic blues. Al Kooper is god...or pretty darn close. Guitarist is pure tone and phrasing. Bassist is tight. Snare drum...tonality great. Love Al's Hammond organ sultry voicing...photos are excellent for repeated views. Norman Rockwell and all. Dig the famous Hendrix drum photo. Al was cropped out, LOL! Hope Alfonts gets to see this!
As noted by the uploader (who has impeccable taste in blues) Al Kooper plays the lead guitar and the B3 and the piano and sings on this track. Bought the lp when it came back in the day.
One night at the Berkeley Keystone, Albert King absolutely shook the earth with his solo on this one. John Mayall and the 'original' Bluesbreakers (w/Mick Taylor and John McVie) had opened the show and I think Albert wanted to give Mr. Taylor and company, as well as the enraptured crowd, something to remember. And he did.
Big fan of Kooper’s. Just finished his autobiography not too long ago. Oh, the stories he can tell! And with a good sense of humor, willingly retelling stories where he was the butt of the joke! I’m a fan of BS&T, and I must admit I favor their first album on which he was essential. I was fortunate enough to live in San Francisco during the era of THE BEST MUSIC, and got to see uncountable great bands, including BS&T with Kooper at the helm, at the Avalon Ballroom, among other great venues. (What a fantastic time and place it was to be young!) So many good songs by him on that first album. Not the greatest singer, but a very talented man. Love the lead guitar here by Michael B.! Someone in the Comments mentioned this was covered by Gary Moore; oh, man…I’ve GOT to hear that!
This track was written by Peppermint Harris for Fenton Robinson, who first recorded it in 1959 on Duke Records, Duke #312. I believe Albert King tried to claim it, but I might be wrong. Peter Green and Gary Moore do great version of it too.
This is a great version. The best one ever, is from a live album that was recorded in San Francisco by Santana in 1968 and it was released 30 years later!!!
Excellent-guitar is played by Charlie Brown-i couldn't fine out any info on him,but sounds kinda' like Mike Bloomfield. Some websites say it's Al on guitar-i have always thought of him as a keyboard man.
Your slide show is excellent...!!! Where's you get those pictures...? Love the music too... This was a big song for Albert King. What can you tell me about "The Guitar Chord Songbook" [ 5:15 ]
I’m curious abt the rhythm section. Does not sound like Bloomers, so I’d go with the.Charlie Brown guy, whoever that is. Al can’t sing, but everything else abt him is awesome.
I hope those magnificent times of music will come back again!!! For the sake of good music! 🙏🏽💚
Been thinking this badly of late the more i go back 50 years to a time when music was.. well better, good. Take your pick
When i was in college. .@ 1971/75 i i used to listen to this song time again while getting stoned...
Funny I was in college at the same time playing the same music.
I'm 15 again, 68 now ❤❤
Saw him in 1971 at UMass Amherst at a free outdoor concert. I still remember his Gibson Flying V guitar.
i was there at that concert t by the pond he played a Vox flying v red guitar.. in 70 Allman Brothers Erdgar & johnny Winter Spooky Tooth & Jethro Tull did a 8 hour concert in the UMASS Cage. $2.50 Spooky Tooth stole the show
Once again, this proves that a great song never dies. Al is SUCH a great writer. Now go look for Gary Moore's version of this. Your head will explode!
It is a great blues classic but Al did not write this.
Gary!
Gary didn't write it either. It was a girl named Peppermint! Can't you tell this is a woman's song? Listen to Jo Baker's version, then you'll realize it is a woman's song.

Koper was one of the most unappreciated musicians, singers, instrumentalist, composers, and arrangers around! So unique. Loved his musc.
Many years, just passed by. On me, searching for this Al Kooper's version of this song.
Love love love Al’s voice❣️
(especially when he doesn’t strain it)
Great version, Al -- I wouldn't call it 'psychedelic blues' -- just good blues.
So many great songs, bands, and artists this man was involved with -- a legend in music!
Is this Kooper playing guitar or Mike Bloomfield? Sounds like Bloomfield.
Kooper is just too good
Kooper and Bloomfield were the real blues brothers.
I think so❤
Amen 🙏 ❤❤❤
Not really. The real blues brother's are Donny Walsh and his brother Rick Walsh of the Downchild Blues Band.

Another underrated musician from the 60s & 70s. Glad he's still around but I don't think he's been heard from the last year. Hope he's ok. ❤

名曲・名演!!!!Al Kooper 大好き❣
First time I heard this excellen version at 1972 from my new casette. Ilile it until now.
I love this song of Al's vocal and guitar playing.
If I'm not mistaken, I believe Al is playing keys (probably a Hammond B3) and Mike Bloomfield is playing guitar. I'm like 98% sure of this.
Soooo good on Headphones. Love the photo choices. Like a movie with such poetic blues. Al Kooper is god...or pretty darn close.

You can call Al god just dont call clapton god
Personally. the only one I call God is God. I refer to people by their names.
@@Ms2old2carenext time you see him, ask why he created such a F*ck-up world? Enquiring minds want to know.

I think Clapton was with Mayall´s Bluesbreakers before Mick Taylor. Wikipedia lists two players before Clapton on guitar.
@@stevemendelson9882 Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Taylor.

Fabuloso Al Kooper

That's not Al Kooper but Michael Bloomfield playing excellent guitar.
Charlie Brown
It’s Al playing lead guitar
Duh...
This is a great version. The best one ever, is from a live album that was recorded in San Francisco by Santana in 1968 and it was released 30 years later!!!
I like Jo Baker's version with Elvin Bishop. The Best vocals of all of them. Maybe not the best guitar, but vocals by far!
