Just to clarify, we don't use monitors in-studio so you'll almost always see band members with headphones in our videos. If you were standing in the room without them, all you'd hear are the clicking of the keyboards.
Why is everyone bashing the drummer? The part where they all glance at him, even though we hear the bass is totally out of rhythm, but then it starts slowly coming into rhythm is, in my opinion, one of the purest, rawest moments I've ever seen in live music history because of how vulnerable playing live actually is. I haven't seen a lot, but this was an awesome performance. Best leave it at that.
This is a really cool performance, the fact that they kinda start off rhythm adds character if you ask me. as a musician myself i hate it when i screw up, so it is inspiring to me to see a group i like make mistakes and "just roll with it" as my dad always taught me to do growing up. so kudos to you Passion Pit.
@@sorkaii Seriously...don't know why, but every few years (since 2009 apparently, Christ)...I feel compelled to come back and watch/laugh at this hot mess.
I was about to say the same...for some reasons, the scene of them staring at each other in bewilderment at the beginning creeps back into my subconscious, and I feel compelled to seek this video out again.
@@tyleroreilly8195Just did my annual rewatch this evening. Made it up to 0:56 this time, when the bass player realizes the whole thing is a bust and surrenders to the awkwardness, without cringing. Then lost it from 3:07 onward.
I think the glitch at the beginning makes this performance even better because it shows even amazing bands aren't perfect every time, gives this performance character.
@@alepgo happens when you suck at adjusting your tempo? or sucks when the sound guy totally fucks you from hearing the backing audio? looks like both happened

watching this cuz they made fun of this performance during there other kexp performance saying this was the most embarrassing performance they've ever done lol
its cool seeing a band not totally perfect because it shows how real they are and dont just press play and sing along its very tempting especially to an electronic band like them
i fucking love this performance, especially the beginning. i truly do and i thought it's intentional that they took a while to coincide. i found that cool...
I actually love this version...I'm kind of addicted actually. I love watching them work through the mess at the beginning and it makes the performance that much more engaging
It's like everyone who watched this video doesn't even like this kind of music and was in a bad mood an decided to comment. I loved every part of the video.
i love it i find its better than the video its more raw drummer is aweosme just finding the beat with thre loat keyboard guys plus the radio producer kicked it in funny how the singer laughs th first verse i love it i wish bands were still real like this now it was amazing performance ! the raw bells live are even better ive been sampling it on my tracks amazing
They got off their click track crazy bad. I'm amazed they recovered! I thought they were all going to have to take their headphones off and play without it. These guys are amazing!!!
Nice save. Hahaha i loved that they messed up at the beginning and recovered so well. Shows how tight the band is. Ahhh love love love love them allllllllllll. I like how Ayad reaction at the end of the song and how they laugh after what Kevin says. hahaha
If you want to hear them live when they are in their element, search TH-cam for "Passion Pit - Sleepyhead live on Channel M " - Best live version I have heard.
about the start, clearly the drummer cant hear because his monitors aren't mixed right, but he gets it going. its an audio issue, they must have not had a proper sound check.
PSA to everybody here: The band hates this performance. Well. Actually. They love it, but only because it's hilariously awkward and one of the worst performances they've ever done. Like. They did another KEXP show in 2012 and Michael said (paraphrased) "the last time we played at KEXP it was possibly the most awkward thing we've ever done." So yeah. Don't judge them or their live shows based on this please. Watch their live stuff on Letterman on their VEVO channel, it's fantastic.
Drew Waterbury yeah this is what live music is all about. Anything can happen. I love how they probably had no time to practice. It reminds me of my days as an awkward drummer in the indie scene in Houston. Now I'm an adult with dumb responsibilities but damn... I miss it every now and then.
To be honest, it was an awesome live performance for me and funny as well, knowing that they tried their best to regain their exposure in the beginning. OLD BUT GOLD! That's why I love this band so much. Kudos to the drummer who made this performance memorable.
Actually, they have some very good live performances. This one, I admit, is not the best they can do. All in all, they are decent as a live band, whether live or not, they're still my favorite band.
The main purpose is to supply everyone with a metronome that would be synced up to the samples so they stay in time with them. When there's midi stuff to stay in time with you have to follow a click track in order to keep perfect time. They probably also use them as monitors.
Just to clarify, we don't use monitors in-studio so you'll almost always see band members with headphones in our videos. If you were standing in the room without them, all you'd hear are the clicking of the keyboards.

Love this
That's what makes it genuine
I like the "real" feel of this song (mess up and all). This is a great song!
I saw a newer version and its not as full of life
I love this in all of its awkwardness, it's pure uncut Passion Pit awesomeness

This is absolutely the best vocal performance of Passion Pit, the mess in the beginning made it even better

I'd probably pass out from panic.
Michael sings incredibly well. It is very hard for a man to sing this high, as a singing student, I'm VERY impressed.
