Why is everyone bashing the drummer? The part where they all glance at him, even though we hear the bass is totally out of rhythm, but then it starts slowly coming into rhythm is, in my opinion, one of the purest, rawest moments I've ever seen in live music history because of how vulnerable playing live actually is. I haven't seen a lot, but this was an awesome performance. Best leave it at that.
Just to clarify, we don't use monitors in-studio so you'll almost always see band members with headphones in our videos. If you were standing in the room without them, all you'd hear are the clicking of the keyboards.
This is a really cool performance, the fact that they kinda start off rhythm adds character if you ask me. as a musician myself i hate it when i screw up, so it is inspiring to me to see a group i like make mistakes and "just roll with it" as my dad always taught me to do growing up. so kudos to you Passion Pit.

its cool seeing a band not totally perfect because it shows how real they are and dont just press play and sing along its very tempting especially to an electronic band like them

about the start, clearly the drummer cant hear because his monitors aren't mixed right, but he gets it going. its an audio issue, they must have not had a proper sound check.
The main purpose is to supply everyone with a metronome that would be synced up to the samples so they stay in time with them. When there's midi stuff to stay in time with you have to follow a click track in order to keep perfect time. They probably also use them as monitors.

Drummers have always been the butt of ever music joke but if you ask any musician seriously they will admit the drummers are extremely talented people :P Im a guitarist/bassist who began to learn drums and while drums arent the hardest instrument to pick up, they're definitely one of the hardest to master.
