  • In this video, we will learn from farmers in Kenya how to make pit silage from maize.
    Without any air, finely chopped green maize ferments without rotting.
    This is because micro-organisms digest the sugars in the fodder and produce lactic acid, which acts as a natural preservative.
    This fermentation also makes the starch and fibres of the maize easier for livestock to digest.
