      @AveSicarius 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      At 9a and above you are essentially climbing a completely vertical/horizontal wall with the smallest of possible imperfections in the rock being your handholds for the most part. It's interesting that these route were considered unclimbable before Chris Sharma came along. Even now, only a handful people have managed to get this far.
      But if you think this is crazy, check out 9b/+ and 9c routes, some of them are basically hanging upside down on a cave wall as you climb across. That's pretty much the first part of Silence haha.

    • @AveSicarius
      @AveSicarius 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@eyeofhorus1301
      I mean there are likely plenty of routes that are potentially 9c, but nobody has managed to map them out yet or climb them fully yet. Also, if I remember correctly, it took Adam some four years to map out and climb Silence, and this was pretty recently.
      The real issue with 9c+ is that you start to approach the point where a face just isn't climbable. Handholds are very small and quite spaced for the most part, and even just mapping the route can take a very long time depending on how long it is. You have to remember that Chris Sharma had been working on La Dura Dura, a 9b, for four years before he climbed it, and Adam only climbed it in 1 and 1/2 years with Chris's guidance (he definitely could have done it himself, it just would have taken much longer).
      Actually establishing a climbable pitch takes quite a significant amount of time, I wouldn't be surprised if Adam or his peers have got a 9c+ in the works, it's just likely a few years away from completion.

    Margo's sheer determination to conquer this line is inspiring. Great edit of a real GIRL-POWER moment framed nicely with her cut away commentary that really shows her poise and confidence tempered with humility before her beautifully terrifying chosen discipline. World-class climbing . . . really.

      Girls better stick to raising non-brainwashed childs. Boys as well, but there is nothing like a good mom. That is what the planet needs, not more extreme climbing. Climbing is fun but not when everything around you collapses, like ie. in the past two years and beyond, minus plus.

      @johnny - the_tampon_repairer Shouldn't have to be said but men & women are not equal, in general they have much less strength , stamina and speed , I could go into far length of detail listing the many differences between men in women , especially in anatomy , which translates to major physical differences. Its what makes this video quite the accomplishment , this climb is far more difficult for women I would say then men. You can take that as condescending all you want but, facts don't care about you're feelings.

    When Margo popped off the crimp in the main footage, oh so close to the glory jug, I was dreading a scrolling narrative finish to this video that would say, "but she sent it at a later date. The End." However, the friend's video of her actual send somehow added even more value to the final result.
    State of flow. In the zone. Unstoppable. Call it what you will. Her summation of that feeling is authentic and raw, which allows the viewer to feed off her emotion just a little bit.
    I think of Alex Honnold's description of his El Cap free solo, of finding perfection in his climbing for those 4 plus hours he was ropeless on the Captain, but it just sounds robotic and aloof in that NBD Honnold sort of way. But with Margo she lets you in, in a way that Alex won't, or can't. Margo perfectly conveys what keeps many of us coming back to the stone. Breaking through our self imposed barriers. Brief moments of unstoppable.
    Just my long way of saying this is one of the best climbing videos I've seen in a long time, if not ever.
