Fred/Sheila I think you are winning the argument. I think any reasonable person would agree you have debunked that Cabin story as Hogwash! As you say Cap wasn’t even born when the skirmish at Pond Creek happened in 1863. What gets me is why would Union General Julius White send a company to Devils Backbone which is terrain impossible for Infantry? As you say it couldn’t have happened😊
The burning of the cabin turned the tables on the Hatfields . After that regular people was horrified and angry as hell about it . The Hatfields knew they were in big big trouble because the regular country folk were appalled by that .
Much like all historians I look for factual evidence. Not word of mouth from people who are financially gaining from it. You have to take that history with a grain of salt. Don't get me wrong, oral history can be a tool and is helpful, but it's not always factual. You back up your history and for that you are a person who is trustworthy when it comes to Hatfield and McCoy history. Your channel should be bigger. Hello from Texas ❤
