  • Note: Bird at 4:56 is Golden-headed Cisticola, followed by Australian Reed-warbler.
    Located in South Western Sydney, the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan has recorded 200 species of birds. Set amongst 416 hectares of rolling hills, lakes, lawns and gardens.
    In this video we visit the northern part of the gardens, mainly around the bird hide, and see what birds we can find on a typical visit.

    I have just found your channel and was thrilled to be able to go birding in my lounge room. Fantastic footage, loved the crakes.
    I appreciate that you name the birds at the end of their footage to allow us to identify them :)
    Thankyou for sharing!

      Thank you for the lovely feedback. I make a real point of naming each bird in my videos. It really does help others to identify birds in the field.

    Another great video. The crake photos were particularly beautiful. Thanks. By the way, the little bird which you named the Reed Warbler was a Golden-headed Cisticola. The photo after it was a Reed Warbler

    The Macarthur Regional had an abundance of flora and fauna throughout the area, however, as Sydney has expanded, the local habitat is being mowed down for housing. Sadly, now we only have small pockets, like the Botanic Gardens, are the last refuge for our native birds, animals and plants. I would suggest contacting your local Member and ask what are they doing to protect the area from further development. Thank you.

      It is a tough situation, we do live in a city so there is always going to be human impact, we do definitely need to ensure our endangered animals are looked after as best we can though.

      Thank you for watching! It is definitely worth a visit, though go on one of the cooler days. In the heat of summer the wildlife can be hard to find.

    Lovely video of my local area Roger. I wonder, did you film all of this in a single visit, or did you spend a few days there.

    What do you think are the best months to visit ?

    • @RogerMacKertich
      @RogerMacKertich  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would say from mid spring to mid Autumn, more chance of migratory species over that time
