    I loved watching this video when I had a fever, I loved how my mind slowly melted into believing that I was on the ship and in a room covered in a blanket in darkness at the same time. The graceful feeling of the consistent need to convulse.

    Never knew the keel was copper plated but after using wiki: In March 1780, Victory's hull was sheathed with 3,923 sheets of copper below the waterline to protect it against shipworm.
    HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, ordered in 1758, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. She is best known for her role as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
    She additionally served as Keppel's flagship at Ushant, Howe's flagship at Cape Spartel and Jervis's flagship at Cape St Vincent. After 1824, she was relegated to the role of harbour ship.
    In 1922, she was moved to a dry dock at Portsmouth, England, and preserved as a museum ship. She has been the flagship of the First Sea Lord since October 2012 and is the world's oldest naval ship still in commission.

    Very nice and relaxing music. And I enjoyed seeing you build the model more or straith forward from the box not trying to do things more complicated to get more "perfect" details. Not many will know anyway and you still get a very good story. For excampel you could had studied how the ropes was really and have mounted them all. You could had realized that the ratline is totally out of scale and had made some new yourself. You could had made more realictic sails yourself. You could had made the deck far more "natual" wood looking and so one and so one. However just taking a desicion and just build the model is sometimes just better to do. So you never ending up being finish with any model because there is allways the hunt for more and more details. :-) And yes I like the idea of how you build the water.

    small tip when painting "weak" colors, such as yellow and red, paint a layer of white first, that will help alot.
    Also, using the existing ratlines to make a jig, you can create ratlines out if thinner thread (wax it aswell) quite quickly, giving then a "lighter" look in that scale. Good
    On a reference note, It has been established that the victory wasn't actually painted in a mustard yellow, it was oddly enough a pinkish tone (i think i prefer the yellow myself though)

    I have just completed my own Revell 1/450 HMS Victory following your recipe! I made mine a waterline version as I found the hull moulding quite problematical. Most parts fitted well, but the key problem with this model is the fragility of the finely moulded parts. Care is required and repairs inevitable. It has built into a great display piece. I have done the Airfix 1/180 scale, and the small 1/600 scale. This is the best of the three. My flags point windward.

    All navies would tow their ship's boats behind under various circumstances. Before combat to avoid their destruction and also during very hot, dry weather to keep the joints wet so they wouldn't shrink and lose there water tight integrity.

    I don't want to be a smart-arse but your flags are blowing directly opposite to the wind that is supposed to beblowing the sails out. And the gun doors were painted black to give a 'checker' effect, but apart from that, nice model.

    • @mtrunkello
      @mtrunkello 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only the underside of gunport doors were painted black. So if they were open you could see the checker effect from afar mening they meant business. Of they were closed you would not see them. Thats how friendly ports knew you have no ill intent.

    I'm currently building this very model. However, since I don't have an airbrush, mine is hand painted and I also decided against using masking tape for a model of such detailed structure. So, needless to say, sje isn't painted perfectly and the coat is rather thick in some places. However I decided to give her pretty much full rigging inspired by larger scale Victory model. I think it compensates for less than ideal paintjob.
    But why I'm even writing this? Because I wanted to thank you. I was stuck trying to come up with some kind of sea-like diorama/stand (the model is supposed to be a gift) and for some reason I had this crazy idea of using... plaster. Styrofoam is such an obvious solution and I never even thought about it....

      @@thorfinn_jorstinnsonr yea it is interesting to think about. Like the piramyds in egypt. Julius caesar, napoleon bonaparte saw the same pyramid you can see today. And yet for caesar who lived before Christ the pyramids were built as much in the past as he lived to us today. I mean caesar lived 2000 years before us. For caesar the pyramids were built 2000-2500 years before him. Thats crazy to think about. But sticking to the ship topic. You should check the swedish ship Vasa. It sunk in the 17th century, was under water for 300 years and in the 1960's they pulled it out and you can check it in a museum. But it well may be that you already knew this story. The flags are the wrong way... All this work and you fail on that... The wind is from behind, filling the sails thus making the ship move forward. The flags should be blowing in the direction the ship is moving... It's not a "S" boat were the speed makes the flag blow backwards, towards the stern.

      Scale Modelling 76 OK! That's good! Another thing - what about using dry brushing to make everything "pop" a lot more? Like when painting wargamefigurines. Whith your matt black as a base, dry brushing woodcolor on the deck would make you see everery individual plank on the deck. Spraypainting is best for cammo... Just my two cents...

Could have at least made some standing and running rigging, so many things wrong its embarrassing. All i have is acrylic paint and a brush and thats all i use on my models, nothing fancy.
