    Nice to see someone building micro campers that don't cost more than the tow vehicle. Thank you for making a video about these guys, it is cool to see the half million dollar expedition trucks and it must be tempting to focus on the top of the line platforms and tech but so few people will ever have one.

      I agree. If I get one mine will be even simpler. I dont want the shelves. I want an empty shell inside. I'd build my own bench/bed with a drawer slide to hold my stove and sink.

    You know this really isnt bad saying it as a woman. I don’t totally rough it as in no tents on the ground but I am also not high maintainance. The options of pass through to the back shelves and the foot area really makes a difference to what you take and how pack it. I have my order of access even in a car but I can live out of tote bags. I like the drawer aspect of the shelving. I do that in my house. Cut down and reform boxes to make sliding “drawers” in my bathroom cabinet, my sewing room. I really like the option of trim it out yourself. Plus we bought a Jeep this year. Moved to an area to explore more of nature! Have to show my hubby!

    One of the better priced trailers for the apparent quality of construction. I am/was a finish carpenter and have worked on boats and camper interiors as well. There probably isn't a great amount of profit in these for the company. Enough to get by but, I doubt they are hosing people at these prices. Built by your neighbour instead of in another country? Worth a few extra bucks in my opinion!
    As for one commenter asking about a $1000 single person trailer? What are we talking about for difference? A foot or two in width of materials cut out of the middle? You still have walls and suspension and frame parts and lights and efficiency of use of materials...
    I am sure it could be done but it wouldn't look this good!

      I kind of want to pass mine down a few or several generations, so I'm sort of shying away from plywood construction. I know I could make one last, but I want something bulletproof that great grandkids take hunting one day.
      Runaway makes an inexpensive off-road teardrop with premium suspension (Timbren axle-less), heavy duty chassis, and composite (fiberglass?) body. It's double-walled, but not insulated. They make a 6x8 body for it. My truck is almost 6'3'' wide, so seeing around it would be no problem. Its footprint is wider, with the step-side fenders, though, so it's not made for really technical off-roading. But it's really cheap, and you can do whatever you want to the inside of it, without restriction. They're aiming at the "camped for years, and now I want to have the instant bed inside" customers, who don't care one bit about fancy slide-out galleys and what-not. They're just thinking "I don't have to pitch a tent to lie down! I can actually take a nap, even if it's hot!"
      Kind of the white trash off-road squaredrop, it comes with AC standard feature! Nothing, except that one luxury feature, by a company based in Florida. That air conditioner is a HUGE comfort and also a status symbol.

    As I get older, sleeping on the ground isn’t as much fun, but I still like to go camping. I’m starting to look at trailers as an option, but the prices are usually way too expensive and the features seem way too much. I saw your previous video when you rented a hiker trailer. These are more in my budget and it’s very simple yet versatile. Thanks for the info. I’d like to go to one of these expos to see for myself what interior feels like.

(I live in Florida) I mean that price I know is low considering others you review but those others are ridiculously priced and for under $12K I can get a 18-23 foot travel trailer by forest river with all the amenities, hek I could live in that stuff . thanks ps I love the way you ask people to tell about there product and why they are awesome- I should do that with women I want to date, tell me why are you awesome baby ? !

I know these guys are trying to see more inexpensive compared to all the other ones that cost so much that you're only going camping and you're not living out there. They have the right idea I have a lot of equipment camping that is real campers sleep outside that's a whole point to enjoy the outdoors.

    I'm definitely considering this company. Just a bit of constructive criticism, if you're going to interview people, you need to mic them and let them talk more.

    • @mixflip
      @mixflip  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If I just hit the record button and let the rep talk that would just be a commercial. I dont make "commercials" for companies. My style is...2 people talking about a product. It's my style. Some like it some dont. I honestly dont care. I do this because I enjoy interacting with the manufacturer. Letting them talk the whole time when I have a urning question would drive me crazy....and would bore me to be honest.
      As for a mic. I use an omnidirectional mic to kill the wind and background noise. I dont have the time nor the desire to put a lapel mic on everyone. I tell people to speak up but some people simply dont have loud voices. If they dont take my advice to speak up, the blame falls on them. I have 1000+ videos with good audio. I am a run and gun operation so if they dont speak up and make an effort to sell their product that's on them. I have 20 booth to hit and time and battery life is always my enemy at these shows.
      If people want me to take the time to set up a lav mic system they will have to pay me to do this. No one pays me. I do this for free.

      I always say...use the right tool for the job. If you are single and only camp with a dog and you want to go deep in the back country where travel trailers cannot go....then you need to figure out if these are for you? If you camp at the KOA with shore power and built in bathrooms then these are not for you.
      I love these trailers but I dont think I'll go this route when I build my overland setup to be honest. I need to stand straight up and I need a porta potty and I need a desk to work on my laptop. Basically....I need a tad bit more room like what a truck camper offers. But that's just me. Some people want way less.

    Kitchen options?

    • @captainjim6300
      @captainjim6300 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bring a portable propane stove add at DC Refrigerator which would likely fit on bottom shelf or maybe they have one as an option that will slide out. You would have to have some type solar or electricity to run it. However if they install it then it cost more and they make decent DC Refrigerators with a compressor for 300 to 800 that are pretty good. I think the cheapest one is the Alpicool it is around 350 and holds maybe 20 liters it is small but it can easily run off of 100 Watts of Solar. Dometic, Whynter, Truck Fridge and Engel all make very reliable Refrigerator/Freezer that use very little power they are not large but most load like a cooler and are great for camping even people who live in Vans have them. I know some are as large as 50 to 60 Liters.

      Pretty close to the runaway v series. But the new Runaways are made with no wood. All fiberglass and plastic. That is a selling point for me.

    • @telcobilly
      @telcobilly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bigvin7602 I checked out the runaway trailers after your fiberglass comment. They look real interesting to me, especially with the no wood in it. I have a 2008 Tacoma 4x4 with a fiberglass slide in utility shell. It's actually set up to be camped in, but if I had one of these trailers, it would become my storage facility and the trailer would be my living area. I've been looking at all kinds of trailers and I'm struggling to get over the sticker shock from when I was looking at a couple of years ago. I just retired from trucking and I will be living in the US part-time and in the Philippines the rest of the time, so no fixed abode for me in the US anymore.

      @@telcobilly after doing research and looking at these in person they are very tiny (the 4x8 model) I instantly got claustrophobic. I’m 6ft 305 and I would have no wiggle room inside. I bite the bullet and opted for the SoCal teardrop 509 krawler. Much more pricey but you get what you pay for.

    I have watched a few of your teardrop trailers videos. If you were going to buy one now, which one would buy and why?

    • @mixflip
      @mixflip  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My needs would be different than most. I have identified that I need more headroom to actually sit up at a desk/table to work on my laptop for video editing in bad weather.
      I would also like a setup with a non built in fridge. I'd like to use a super efficient fridge like a dometic with dual zones.
      Not many offer this option. Monterba and WeeRoll makes one that fits these specs close though.

    These are the most reasonable priced ones that ive seen so far, i still wonder why no one is making traditional pop up style campers but more off road worthy. I am thinking of buying a cheap used one and just doing light mods to the suspension and frame so i can have a more off road worthy trailer and still be able to cook inside, hang out comfortably in case of bad weather and have more room for valuables and perishables inside....

    • @ambienteterrazas
      @ambienteterrazas 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Don P You make a good point, but then again everyone has a different idea of what "serious off roading" is, some might consider it baja 1000 style and some others just driving down a light dirt road. I just like surfing and camping with my wife and friends and to get to some spots i requier 4x4, i am getting tired of sleeping in a tent and would like a little more comfort, here in baja ive seen guys with huge pick up trucks towing trailers with atv's getting to the same spots i do, i think i could handle well an 8ft pop up (i think those are the smaller ones) behind my xterra. But then again its just an idea you do make a good point, the longer the combo the harder to handle....

      I've camped in a pop-up for 45 years. I've put them down in the rain too many times. You can only try to keep the bed dry when the wet canvas is folded onto it, but good luck.
      A pop-up has Everything is stored inside down lo under the seat. Lift the cushion, hold the lid, bending over next to the floor for everything. ax-food-kitchen stuff- hot dog sticks, matches, OFF. its just not handy to get at stuff. EVERYTHING! A pop-up would be improved if the curbside panel opened up from outside allowing access to the compartments from outside. Thats just what Hiker has done.
      Plus The best cooking experience is outside with a gas stove or dutch oven not inside a pop-up with a low counter. All day long. Not conenient. The outside galley and nice awning with the picnic table underneath is a better set up.
      A pop-up worked for my family of six. Now we are empty nesters and we ditched it for a Hiker.

    I love the minimalism, and the price. I don't need seating, if I've got a tow vehicle. I can set up a tailgate kitchen on the tailgate of a truck. What's the point of spending $15,000.00 more, just to load down the tongue? I want as little hanging off the back as possible, and the storage space onboard just for the night. I'm basically going to crawl in, go to sleep, wake up and get out anyway. I don't need "Furniture grade cabinets" for that. If I can get that, just that, for 3 grand? (I'm not in the market, I have an Aeromate step van, but still.) The pass-through to the shelves is quite honestly brilliant. Why isn't that an Industry Standard?
