I came across this video by chance. I have been on 40mg Citalopram for as long as I can remember certainly 25+years, combined with 45mg Mirtzapine. Over the last year, I experienced a mental health crisis, doing something that I had not considered before. I was saved and after leaving hospital, the local mental health team monitored me for 6 weeks. I was given a course of CBT that lasted 6 weeks. An event in my family has triggered another crisis. I would point out that I live in the UK, so access to mental health professionals along with my general doctor is difficult to access. I have also seen my physical health decline rapidly, particularly feeling exhausted all the time. I am 66 years old and apart from the odd cold was fit. Your video was a message that I was meant to receive, I have demanded an appointment with my Doctor this week, you may have saved a life , thank you David

Amazingly well-presented information. I have been looking to finally "give in" to taking medication for the depressive/anxiety symptoms I've had since a child. My reluctance to go on medications like these was more culturally based which looked at a person resorting to ("mental medications") as weak. Unfortunately, I've had M.D.s refuse to prescribe opting that I should exercise and eat a well-balanced diet instead. I'm going to my newer family internist tomorrow and I will ask for a prescription for Lexapro. I'm hoping he'll agree to do it.

Citalopram is prescribed more because it's way cheaper than the other one. In Belgium I pay 5 euro out of my own pocket for 98 tablets. Concerning my depression episodes since the eighties, I consider Citalopram the best anti-depressant for me, ever prescribed. I can lead a 'normal' life now. Like all anti-depressant, first month you feel like a zombie, but after it becomes much better.

I was really excited to be on citalopram when I first started because of how well I slept but now that I’m happy and anxiety free, I’m just always tired. Giving Zoloft a shot next after the taper off/on, hopefully that changes things.

I had this SAME ISSUE! When I first started it, it seemed to be working great. Pretty much NO side effects whatsoever at 10mg per day. This was like 3 years ago. Thought I was feeling better so I tapered off with no issues. Well, my anxiety is back in full force so I tried taking again about 3 months ago at 5mg, the side effects the first night were horrific. WHY WHY WHY! LOL

just a note, the isomer can be thought of the "handedness", sort of like how the shapes of our left and right hands are mirror images of each other, therefore a left sided glove won't fit on a right hand. the shapes of citalopram and escitalopram are isomers, or mirror images of each other

I am probably starting escitalopram in a few weeks. I am first having an ECG though, because I was told (and also read in every description of it online) that it can definitely prolong your QT intervals, just like Citalopram. I have a benign heart rhythm disorder called AVNRT which sometimes causes my heart to race suddenly for short or longer periods of time (I am on a medication for this), and because of this I am naturally very concerned when it comes to heart related issues. But since appearantly many SSRI's can prolong your QT intervals I decided to give it a chance anyway. At least, if my ECG comes back clear.

Actually in my case escitalopram gave me the worst sexual dysfunction among the few ADs I tried. Many people won't spontaneously report SSRI-related sexual dysfunction, because they don't like to talk about that. But things change when you ask them specifically. From 10% it becomes at least 50%. It doesn't mean you don't have a sex life anymore, but you have to adapt: it takes longer to reach orgasm, and sex drive can be reduced.

My psychiatrist decided to half my dosage to 7.5mg, and my resting heart rate has partially gone back to normal. Now reading your comment it makes me wonder if the bradycardia was more than a low heart rate.
