    It's always the same profile:
    1. Works overseas
    2. Born and raised in Europe and immigrated to the US (explains the accent in phone calls. Many Americans can't tell one foreign accent from another)
    3. Has money but inexplicably can't get access to it.
    4. "My Queen" 😛

    • @lisalu910
      @lisalu910 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And it's not only the accent, but the people they are talking to sound very young, and make mistakes in English. They don't "sound" like the mature man in the photo, regardless of the accent.

      Same here. They use almost identical scripts. In my case, when he asked for money, I questioned him about it e.g. why don't you use your credit card or you said you had so much money.... Then they become rude. I just said f... off!
      Now I can laugh about it, but I felt so ashamed to be tricked like this, because I usually don't fall for BS.

      You are 100% correct. The elderly are targeted because they often have a lifetime's worth of money saved up. They also come from a more trusting lifetime before there was a computer to hide behind. The criminals wear the mask of the identity theft victim, they choose good looking people to pretend to be, then make up a profile of lies that are alluring to victims. I work with Scamhaters United and we all volunteer. Our goals are to attempt to prevent first contact, to expose fakes wherever we find them, and to alert potential victims and current victims about what they are dealing with. We also report fakes to the platforms we find them in.

    If they start calling you darling, honey, my love, sweetie, angel, dear, etc when you've 1) never met or 2) barely know each other and went on maybe 2 dates, they are most likely trying to get you emotionally attached to them fast. The only people who would do that are trying to get something from you, in most cases it's money, sex, or status, or a combination of these things. But it's not love.

      Or just be wise about how to use it :)
      You can find someone closer to where you live and after a couple of conversations you can meet them at a public place somewhere not too close to your home. At least you know who it is then and you can immediately see if he is who he says he is.
      Also watch for exaggerated language. Things like: you are the love of my life, you are the best that has happened to me in a long time and constantly calling you sweetheart etc. while only e-mailing/ texting a few times, is a big red flag imo. (Love bombing is manipulation) Which normal person tells you that after a few e-mails or texts, really? (No sane person I know.)

I know of one husband who was not so lucky. The scam victim was involved in a "celebrity scam". The scammer told her that "it" really wants to be with her but, she needed to get rid of her husband. All the evidence was on her phone during the chatting with the scammer for the police to charge her with attempted murder and she is in jail now for attempted murder. She poisoned some soup that she gave her husband to "get rid" of him.

    I see these victims as vulnerable and not really stupid. Yes, I understand that they make foolish decisions, but IMO we got to approach the issue in the same way we would approach substance abuse addicts. Because just like drugs or alcohol, love is literaly addictive.... at least the perception of it. As human beings we all crave love, acceptance, validation, being made to feel attractive and valuable, in the same way a heroin junkie will crave for that high every time he shoots up. Both will cause massive dopamine release in the brain and any of us will do what ever it takes to keep getting that release. Its easy to always say that "Oh but I am not stupid enough to trust a guy I never met with money". Well good for you! You probably are not widowed, divorced, lonely or just dying for some validation. These scumbags probably wont waste their time with you anyway. But a lot of people go through those and they fall for these scams because they lack support.

      Yeah, but even a junkie can only be satisfied by the real thing. If you substitute powdered sugar for their real heroin or whatever, they aren't going to get high. So how can a love addict fall for something so obviously phony? Someone who never laid eyes on you in person declaring their undying "love" is no more real than the powdered sugar.

    • @SA-cb2it
      @SA-cb2it 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think they just attribute that behaviour to awkwardness in a person and they overlook it thinking that because of some immaturity or some lack in judgement of that other person that person has chosen them and that it doesn’t matter as long as they have that person. So in a way the women getting conned think that they are getting the better end of the stick. And they don’t want to risk this unique opportunity of someone finally being interested in them by denying the person money , they think they are strengthening the relationship with money. If you look at the messages in isolation where the conman asked for money, you can clearly see the red flag but when you have been primed and groomed for months , you can’t see the messages in isolation, they are part of the continuing series of events.

    • @hollyr.1139
      @hollyr.1139 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Are you familiar with "love bombing," in which the perpetrator wears out the victim with incessant attention? It's a disaster for women who were raised to take care of everyone else first and their own needs and boundaries last. That's who the scammers are looking for. I heard just yesterday about a woman with three master's degrees who got victimized by a romance scammer. Surely some of the victims are stupid; but these scammers look for women intelligent enough, seemingly trusting enough and with the careers to have the money that the scammers want to take from them.

    why would you believe a word these people say

    • @beryllines3788
      @beryllines3788 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's manipulation, they are persistent. They are able to set up and to access documentation to "prove" they are who they claim to be using AI, photoshop, word salad, and their fellow scammer group members. They work in groups where the skillsets are many and varied and they support each other in many ways. It's all incredible deception and some are at "grandmaster" level. The words they use are psychological warfare on the mind of the victim and have stood the tests of time, and of trial and error. When dealing with anyone online it is best to have a healthy amount of skepticism. A great deal of flattery is used to manipulate victims and it works because everyone warms to having flattering remarks made about them.

  • @aema5124

    How stupid can you be to believe anything some stranger says on line or on the phone like this, especially when they are asking you for money???

    • @beryllines3788
      @beryllines3788 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It is not "stupidity". The tactics used against victims are a psychological mind play. Money is not the first topic they go to. There is a period of "wooing" the victims. It is during this time the victim is "lovebombed" a tactic used by narcissists in real life. They manipulate the feelings of their victims and once certain the victims has developed feelings for them - THAT'S when the fairy tales about traumas and disasters begin. The strange stories I have heard victims being told are wild. The perpetrators of the deception create and emergency type drama and need help immediately, giving the victim no time to think about what they are doing. I tell you, these criminals are psychopaths and care nothing about what kind of issue their victim will have for having money swindled from them. There are always promises (lies) about paying back the money but of course it never happens. Congratulations to you for being sceptical, they may never "get" you. It is wise to not judge others because it could just as easily be you being deceived. Some scammers are in your life right now, they just haven't made the move on you - yet.

      The ONLY thing that will stop them is when the money stops flowing to them. Education is key. Potential victims need to learn that there are very few - to zero strangers that would request friendship out of the blue. When someone does request friendship, they want something from you, be it access to your friend list (for more potential targets). They may want to clone your account (to scam money from your friends). They may want to learn more about you (to help their scam be successful).

    Gosh! Crap like that does not work on me. I used to do research for a job and also people would come to me to check the occasional work from students. It wasn't as well known then that you could use search engines to find excerpts from quotes/texts to see if plagiarized from something already published. Gotcha!
    I don't do online dating but in a comment section of a YT video someone 'approached' me and commented that it was cold where they were too. They forgot that they mentioned a hometown location to me and when I checked their weather that evening, it said 86F. I called them on it and they said they were not home, but working in the Gulf of Mexico right now... guess what? 86F also.

Big red flag! Same with being a traveling doctor. The one thing that made me yell at her that he's a scammer. She was liking the money and not sure why she would fall for someone my age! At least she didn't send him any money when he asked for money for his sick son. Yet she's the one who tells me not to go looking for a boyfriend. She's still stressing majorly over it.

    The sad / pathetic part of all this is the fact that even if the victim finally cuts off from the scammer, their info is usually passed around and possibly the same scammer could contact the victim under a new profile. Many times if you ask the victims, they had this happen before and "didn't learn their lesson". Basically they are more probable to have it happen to them again once this has happened before. It's easier to fish from a previous victim then try to fish for someone brand new. So it's really hard to get through to the victims.

    • @beryllines3788
      @beryllines3788 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're correct. The criminals work in groups or clusters. They share skills, victims (they call victims "clients") and even take shifts dealing with victims so the contact is persistent. It's a whole industry and the ones who provide the "scripts" they copy/paste from get 20% of their profit from the victims.

      @@mahoganydoormadmindstories That's false.
      Many romance scammers incorporate their false persona that they are widowed, raising a child alone.
      To further hook the target, either they or their child becomes ill with a terrible disease or a catastrophic injury from a car accident or work mishap or just walking on a street when something heavy falls on them.
      Take your pick.
      The made-up story most often requires steady, copious amounts of money to pay medical bills.
      Either cash for med bills or in the absence of med bills, the scammer elicits sympathy as they have been down on their luck, they claim to need gift cards so they can get food or phone service or sometimes money for a plane ticket so they can be together............finally. It rarely if ever, happens.
