That brush attachment worked a treat on those nooks and crannies! Excellent job, Zeb & Jami! Happy Birthday, Jami!!! I think a wax finish, or even a hint of white wax would be a lovely finish. Its beautiful. Whatever direction you go, it will be lovely.

Use the clean strip liquid, cover with saran wrap to keep hot/moist, and it will be ready to go in 15 min. works awesome 👌

Stunning unusual olive wood tones! Your hutch is a prized 1880-1900 French antique "buffet or vaissellier". Many families still proudly display them in their formal dining room. Excellent refinishing by Zeb. So relieved you haven't painted it yet. Truly a high end piece for your beautiful home.🎉😅

Looks so much better lighter but personally I’d either paint it or give it a paint wash so you still see the wood coming through. I’ve a similar piece that I bought here in France for €30! Bargain and I painted and distressed it as that suits my decor and it looks incredible 🥰 Can’t wait to see what you do to yours 😊

I have a set of plates similar to that. They are seasonal with snow scenes I can't wait to use them for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I bought the set a while ago in Galveston. Paid around $300 for the set of 8 with some extras. BTW, love the natural wood look. It looks great in contrast to the walls and floors.

I agree that it's an old piece -- the size & dark stain made it look imposing & not quite endearing ... Now that it's lighter -- you can see all the details & carving & it's not scary anymore ! You want to get close & examine & admire it ... And wonder about its lineage & age ....
But then what do I know !!😂

It looks Edwardian to me. Here in the UK there are many of them. I had a very big one which I bought in New Zealand when I lived there. It had originally come from here, travelled there, was loved then dumped into a basement which got flooded and finally ended up in a charity shop where I bought it. I decided not to paint it and loved it after I restored it. Sadly after downsizing we needed to get rid of it. However, we couldn’t get anyone to buy it or even get an antique dealer to take it. It’s considered to big for todays houses. So I had no choice but to take it apart and salvage as much of the parts as I could. They are currently on my to do list to up-cycle.

I have this same hutch. except mine doesn't have the glass cabinet doors on top, mine has solid doors just like the bottom does. I looked and looked for a cabinet to turn into my Apothecary...i absolutely love love this hutch..I would have been so disappointed if you had painted it but I know to each their own. I love the brass like hinges or really they aren't hinges, I personally have never seen anything like them before they have to be inset perfectly aligned to get the doors to attach, very unique. So enjoyed this video.

Looks great. The lighter color isn't as imposing. I've always used Zip Strip. I've never had to use plastic wrap over it. MANY wood turnings have been devarnished with Zip, steel wool and/or a wire brush. Though there are really great Dremel attachments and soft sanding pads that can help get the stuff out of the turnings. I also used Minwaxes stripper cleaner works great. You might have to use Oxcalic acid if you have some tough areas, but I always love the variations.
Good luck on the floors I don't envy you that project! I just did a small section and trying to keep dog and cats off of it! Thankfully the kids are grown 😊 I now know why people used wall to wall carpeting over hardwood floors!

My favorite stripper is Citristrip in the spray can (the gel form makes a gloppy mess). I usually let it sit 30-60 min. Instead of a scraper I use 0000 steel wool dipped in water or mineral spirits to scrub it off. White oil wax might be nice, but I think I'd really love to see you paint it! What about painting it the same color as the green legs of your bar stools in the next room to carry that pretty color through?
