I’m 65. For years before I retired, I bought as many vintage books and patterns as I could find, from the eras I loved, to sew when I finally had the time. Now I’m sewing up long floral dresses, slips and aprons with ruffles, lace and embroidery on them. I look forward to many years in flowing dresses with my long hair worn down (another thing society tells me I’m too old for). I recall a sewing blogger many years ago saying that novelty print fabrics were not very grown up and there comes a time you need to dress like an adult! Maybe referring to herself, but worded poorly and sounded very generalised! Who decides what an adult needs to dress like?! Nearly 50 and will be keeping my novelty prints and florals thank you very much 😁! The dresses are all fab 💜
I heard a similar comment about women over 50 should not wear long hair. I was 52 then and let mine grow down past my shoulders. Loved it. 😁 I love your channel, your attitude and your style. Keep up the good work. 💕

I'm with you on "feeling" an outfit. I am not one to plan an outfit for a day or days ahead. It's only when I dress for the day that I either "feel" or do not "feel" a particular outfit. Imagine how many outfits I take along on vacations. . .way too many to satisfy my changing fashion moods. I love seeing women over 50 (over 60, which includes me) wearing hip and groovy outfits (and long hair). You rock it girl. I'm over 60, going on 63 in October, and I definitely sew my dresses with floral fabric. One dress I've made has huge flowers.

You have wonderful taste in fabrics and they are so wonderfully made.I used to make a lot of clothes and home furnishings but haven't for a long time....I tend to have fun with upcycling denim jeans into bags. I did make 2 dresses from beautiful curtain fabric though,last summer.
Hi Jayne. I’ve never heard of that. Both of my grandmothers wore florals as far back as I can ever remember….until they were well into their nineties. They wore florals their whole lives and loved them. Basically so did everyone else where I live. I can’t think of any good reason why a person couldn’t wear flowers at any age. I’ll be wearing florals forever as well. Love your floral dresses. 👍👍🥰
I think the florals look great on you, wear what you feel comfortable in. I wore a tropical flowered top and I got a complement on it and i am a senior. So that says it all.
Your Dixie is right up my street and I really hope you release this one as a pattern! My love affair with florals began with a beautiful Laura Ashley smock dress I was given in the early eighties (I still have it). I’m so glad these prints are available for us to enjoy, as they were so hard to find before.

I haven't worn florals for many years (mainly because I am very short and started wearing solids as I think they make me look a teeny bit taller!) but yours are absolutely beautiful and I sigh with envy seeing how lovely you look in them. I gather the person who told us what we should wear was a woman 'journalist', which makes it all the worse, and also that they took a photo off someone's Instagram (I think maybe another dressmaker) without their permission as an example of 'what not to wear over 50'. I think the wonderful response will make whoever responsible think again before writing such rubbish!

I am 60 and I have been sewing floral dresses out of pillow cases, bed sheets, and thrifted fabric this summer. I am still going strong with floral prints. I found two king sized pillow cases with flowers and a pretty muted rose pink color way.

I am 57yr old soon to be 58 I will wear what I want to wear and if its floral's spots and more floral's, jean, denim dress, leather pants tights, ponchos, tight jeans, mini skirts, boob tubes, body suits, rompers whatever I choose to wear, and what colour's I like. Lol. I heard the same thing on instagram. My favourite thing to wear is floral anything and I am 60. Apparently she thinks florals age us and we shouldn't wear them so we can look younger. Well it took me my whole life to get this old. I have no problem with my age and I wear whatever I like, whether it is supposed to be for a younger person, older person, or who. I also embrace the gray and have my hair down to my mid back. Its beautiful and curly/wavy, so why not. It was straight until about 8 years ago so I am going to enjoy what I have. I made about a dozen floral clothing items since I heard that on instagram and will enjoy wearing all of them.
Your dresses look beautiful on you and if you like them, wear them! I’m 63. I would not wear florals as I’m about a size 12 (US) to 14 and feel like I look like I’m wearing a sheet or curtain or the like. Too much of a good thing is still just too much! Lol! But if you like them… you go girl!
