Even as a American soccer fan, Ive never watched college soccer to be fair and I didn't know that about the clock. Very interesting, intrigued to try and watch some now.
Something similar happened on Tuesday down in D3 college soccer. A matchup between Hanover (IN) and Transylvania (KY) in the HCAC .tournament semifinal. Hanover scored with 7 minutes left for a 2-1 lead. Transylvania tied it up with 40 seconds left, then Hanover won it with 4 seconds left. Season over for Transylvania, Hanover will play for the conference crown and a trip to the NCAA tournament.
Honestly, the concept of a match ending the moment the time runs out (whether there's added time or not) would be great. You'd reduce the complaints of players on the field or fans in the stands wanting the ref to end the match once the added time is over. Obviously refs have good reason to continue, but knowing exactly when the match will end gives players an opportunity to make a final shot. Could you imagine these "Hail Mary" goals in the top European leagues?
We need you to commentate the prem mate. Awesome commentary at the death, made the moment. Its one thing to get the call right, but to keep the energy when it's an obviously gutting winner against your team is another. Thats sick
The biggest issue I have with this, is the pausing of the clock. Something about the clock continuing to tick through free kicks/corners just gives everything a sense of urgency. I can't compromise on this, because I find basically all sports with a pausable clock hard to watch
@@hans.lankamp look no further than champions league format to see the standard process of people coming up with the dumbest excuses possible to explain why the way they grew up is actually better until 4 matches in everyone goes “yeah no shit this way is actually way better” besides a few grumpy old men
Australian Rugby League has a clock the same as this. IMO it's way better to time matches than the current way it's done in football. Managers sitting there pointing at their watches piss me off.
Dont feel bad sir, us brits called it Soccer first (as association football is a mouthful) and you guys could not change when we did as you already had a game called football 🤷♂️
Can u make video about polish clubs Legia and Jagiellonia and they fenomenal run in Conference League with all matches wins , this is the only nation in league phase count all 3 cups ( Champions League , Europa League and Conference League ) that win all matches and lose so far only 1 goal
Thanks for covering this man! I feel like some aspects of the game are way overdue for a rethink, and it's refreshing to see new concepts tried out in the US. I have not considered all the implications of this timekeeping method but I find it awesome that there's leagues out there experimenting with it. When they started adding like 11' worth of injury/stoppage time in every game in the WC I did think that it would just be easier to stop the clock when the ball is out of play.
MLS used to experiment more but now they try and act more like everyone else. They used to have a unique shootout design where players dribble up and have a 1 v 1 with the GK to be used to settle every draw. But now they only do very minor unique rules (like yellow accumulation suspensions taking place the next time you play the team your offense was against etc)
My college started a men's soccer team because the law actually says the numbers of scholarships should be divided according to the proportion of men and women at the school. My school has about 2/3rds men, so we needed a new male scholarship sport.
ok but... I see literally no reason for this not to be adopted everywhere else in the world. The stoppage time system dates back to before we had digital scoreboards that could keep track of the game in real time. And who wouldn't want a premier league buzzer beater
I'll be honest, my brain kind of forgets all about the "soccer" versus "football" language difference when I'm reminded that Notre-Dame in the US is pronounced "node a dame". Hehe.
I used to agree with the idea of the timer being stopped whenever the ball went out of play, but then it sort of takes away from the insanity of like a 90+6 minute goal or penalty miss
There’s two problems with this that should be resolved. 1- games being to Long: that’s easy because you just shorten the time. 2- An attack being cut short, I think this is harder to solve but they should do something similar to what they do in stoppage time to where if the attack is alive then it’s stays in play and when the attack dies the game ends.
Maybe its just a cultural difference but I don't find this concept particularly interesting. It feels like with most American sports that everything is designed to create the one perfect moment but 99% of the time everything just peters out. I would be interested to know the statistics comparing the amount of goals in the last minute of these sort of games with the more standardised injury time where the ambiguity means there is always the chance that one more attack is possible.
THIS needs to be implemented in all leagues! But it won't, as it limits a lot of match-fixing opportunities. Aussie Rules football has a countdown clock.. makes for some insane "buzzer beater" moments.
Professional footballers (as in soccer) have a good amount of freetime as well. They train like every day for 1-2 hours and that's it. If you don't play several matches a week and need to travel a lot that is totally doable.
You practice a couple of hours a day usually in the morning or evening and lift weights during the non field practice time. For starters you maybe have 4 or 5 one hour classes (maybe less at the D1 level -- you need to pass 24 credit hours during the year to stay eligible) from 8 AM until 5 PM, so for starters you have 4+ hours during the day free. Then probably 4-5 hours free at night. I played American football in college and never really had a problem finding time to get work done. Basketball is probably the hardest sport for this as the season runs from November until the end of March and typically requires more travelling during class days
is this not just.....last minute winners.....like we have in football...everywhere? this isn't a uniquely American occurrence just because the clock graphic runs downwards not upwards
@cakeorrdeath but that's never taken away from the celebrations of last seconds goals in European football. If anything it makes it better. The uncertainty creates tension, nerves, excitement
I got click baited for a rare goal to score, but it's never a "most insane goal ever". It's also the goalkeeper's fault. Kinda disappointed by Zealand.
