Former Vang Vieng Airport to Become Tourism Center
Vientiane Province has signed an agreement with Ichin Engineering & Construction Lao Company, authorizing the investment of US$200 million into developing the former Vang Vieng Airport into a tourist destination. The signing ceremony took place earlier in the year with government officials, the Vientiane Province Governor, Vientiane Province Planning and Investment Department Director and Ichin Engineering & Construction Lao Company President in attendance.
The proposed design will develop an entire commercial tourism space consisting of a 5-star hotel, hospital, tourism academy and a multi-ethnic cultural theater. The site of the project will be the former Vang Vieng airport, covering a land area of 162 sq km. The construction of this project is expected to take five years.

Vang attracts people from all over the world because of it's outdoor nature surroundings. New infrastructure needs to STOP, especially hotels. There's plenty of it all ready. To put up a casino in the heart of Vang Vieng is to completely destroy the spirit and beauty of Vang Vieng.

Tourists come to enjoy the beautiful place of Vang Vieng. We don't want to spend money at Casino when we are on vacation. We want to relax and enjoy Vang Vieng. Casinos will only attract Chinese people because they are the biggest gamblers. They like to gamble. I feel like Vang Vieng will become a Chinese town if the casinos are built. It will attract less tourists, that i can assure you.
So sad to see the Lao government do this to Laos. They need to stop having Chinese people be their boss. Vang Vieng will be ruin.

Up country Laos reminds me of how Thailand was up country back in 1976, it was wonderful, the people were friendly, they were happy & when a farang came to visit or pass through their village they were respectful. Making VV a Chinese Economic Zone won't provide the local people with jobs or boost the local economy, it will however make a lot of money for a few & bring a lot of Chinese gamblers & prostitutes into the CEZ all via the Lao-Chinese Railway. เคยไปเที่ยววังเวียงเมื่อแปดปีที่แล้ว เห็นสนามบินเก่าซึ่งเป็นเพียงพื้นดินเพื่อให้เครื่องบินร่อนลงได้ อยู่กลางใจเมืองวังเวียง ถ้าสร้างเป็นบ่อนการพนันก็เป็นที่น่าเสียดายภูมิทัศน์ของเมือง
