    0:50 No you actually CAN'T use a multi-stitch zig-zag as it will hit the bar down the middle. I just bent two needles trying to follow this advice. Zig-zag and overedge are the only stitches I can use with this foot.

    When I use the overcast foot on my machine the fabric gets caught up and does not slide out from the back of the foot. Can someone explain what is the problem. I tried the widest zig zag stitch n other stitches suitable for overcast

      You need to ensure the stitch width is adjusted to the presser foot width by hand rolling a stitch first. If the stitch width isn't right, the needle will hit the plate in the middle. Once it is right, it should go through the holes on either side of the middle plate without any issues. The width can also vary for various types on stitch and from machine to machine.

      @@meganepelletier853 ...Thanks for that info. Is it true that you can't change the length and width of decorative/overcast stitches on sewing machines?

    • @meganepelletier853
      @meganepelletier853 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@The_torero Most machines will allow the stitch width and length of these stitches to be modified when using a regular presser foot, although some of them will provide a more limited range of stitch size.
      However, if you are using an overcast foot such as the ones shown in the video, the width of the stitch will be limited by the width of the plate on the presser foot. Using a stitch that is too narrow or too large will result in hitting the plate/foot, causing your needle to break. However, a lot of overcast presser feet come in rather inexpensive sets with assorted sizes allowing for different stitch widths.
      There should be no issues as far as modifying the length goes as this really only dictates how fast the teeth on your machine feed the fabric through. The needle will still hit the exact same place everytime. The only issues I can see with adjusting length is that a long stitch is more likely not gonna be as efficient in preventing fraying and a very short stitch may result in a bulkier seam, which may not be as aesthetically pleasing or comfortable.
