Just barely IMO. That silent throwing confetti animation says it all. Empty soul-less celebrations of nothing in particular for the sake of justification.
The fact that they have spent millions of not billions on this project, but have a worse product than what any indie studio makes is baffling. It’s like people all over this project are just pocketing all the money and screwing over meta. It’s amazing
The reality of it is likely people pointed out it was stupid, were either ignored or silenced while the managers and suits spin wheels to make the higher ups look like they're producing something of value and when it comes out that it's garbage they take it out on the workers. Ideas rarely come from the people working on it because if you have an idea you're expected to just kind of spin it from the air and demo it on top of keeping with all the regular stuff management wants you to do. And you're usually not rewarded for it. If your idea is good they just steal it and it's not like you'll get rewarded for coming up with something good. So a lot of people will just go with whatever stupid stuff management wants and when they realize it's 100% going to be a garbage fire they are already applying for transfer or new job. A lot of that money was also probably not even spent on development, but instead on marketing the idea to investors.
I remember Netflix on the 360 used to allow you to invite your friends and all your avatars would sit in a little theater and watch Netflix with one person controlling the pause button. That was in 2009.
I have never done that personally, so I don't know if that was a feature at the very first launch or not, but if it is, it dates even further back to 2005. Insane to think about, how old that console is already.
We're in a weird age where it feels like all major organizations, in private and public sectors, are laughably out of touch with their target audiences and consumers.
With gaming, it started in like 2015. With tv series and streaming services it started in 2018. With (American) politics it started in 2019. The whole world in 2020.
My other major problem with the metaverse is how much it feels so "unprofessional" and yet Mark is pushing it to be a work environment. It has the same feeling of adding emojis to confidential documents. Just the whole idea of being cartoons as avatars screams unprofessionalism. And in this day and age, where higher management are forcing subordinates to act more serious and professional while on the job, having avatars has the same feeling as using a cat filter while working. I thought Mark Zuckerberg was a genius since he was a young man able to become a billionnare. But now I don't know how a dumb guy like him was ever to pull that off. He's certainly not as smart as I thought he was.
People have the same reaction to Microsoft's new emojis in Teams. They call it childish and unprofessional, but who in MS cares? Lets change things for the sake of change just to show we are trying to be modern and cool and trendy. Wait, how old is the target audience using Teams? Nevermid.

Except that the tech of these individuals is extremely underdeveloped. In the words of Heisenberg, it's Grade A College Ball Vs the New York Yankees. Meta has developed technology that allows you to perfectly replicate facial expressions into a 3D Virtual Reality environment. VRChat avatars can do a bunch of fake anime shit but they have to do it manually (button pressing/string pulling).
No doubt Hollywood is even now working on an animated horror movie. A bunch of teenagers are trapped forever in the Metaverse. The movie's byline: "If you don't have legs, guess what else you don't have?"
As a millennial, looking back over the different ways I've interacted with IRL friends and online acquaintances, I can safely say the period where everyone was using FB as the communication tool was by far the worst. I feel like I became more disconnected from actual friends, even though in terms of time spent I probably had more time on the platform than any other. I'm happy to see the platform dying to the point where they need to force their version of the metaverse to work, and for some reason it feels incredibly gratifying to see it slow motion fail.
In my family, nobody's used FB in years, because cell phone technology has improved so much. Now you can take a high quality picture or video with your phone, send a group text, and that media will go out to everyone incredibly fast. Used to be, FB was the best and easiest way to share baby photos or vacation photos or whatever with your family and friends. Now, text messaging is the best way. Which is awesome, because you can keep your private life away from Zuck Boy.
As someone who was conducting scholarly research for my master’s degree on the Metaverse and Meta’s attempt at creating a metaverse, Zuckerberg is extremely late to the party on this. Second Life is credited as the first example of an adopted metaverse. Meta has their corny cartoon avatars, but they’re actually working on creating life-like avatars which are very uncanny valley. They look exactly like you but operate similar to a robot because the AI facial recognition to emotions is not advanced enough yet. It’s called Codec Avatars if anyone is interested looking further into it.
Its weird that theyre going more human when that’s literally the worst. Just one look at vr chat, or hell even roblox and youll know that nobody wants to look like themselves, or even be human. Whats the point of making an avatar of yourself when you can be literally anything youve ever wanted to be
Exactly, its hilarious how people think this is a new and revolutionary idea when Second Life exists and has thrived for almost 20 years now. Doing things better and with legs since 2003! 😂
I'm a year late, but the funniest part of Metaverse Dying was when Daniel RTGame Streamed himself playing Metaverse the stocks plummeted like 20 or 30 percent *during* his stream. An Irishman killed Metaverse by showing off how bad it was.
One thing for sure, Zuck's avatar is a big improvement on his actual physical presence. So much more life, colour, emotion. And man, that is saying something...
I have half a notion that he wants to pour all his resources into this because he realizes this. He probably wishes desperately that everyone would adopt this so that he could live forever as his online persona, where he could be young forever and as life-filled and animated as his Utopia can be imagined. If the Metaverse fails... so does Mark Zuckerberg. I say this with no ill will or humor: I honestly wonder if Mark will be the first billionaire to commit suicide.
"You can already do this on the Xbox 360 with those avatars, or even on the Switch with the Miis in Smash Bros" did moist completely miss the entire Wii era
Of course you'd get anxiety working on something like Horizon Worlds but imagine how cool it is to work on something as advanced as Colour pass-through on a VR Headset or a standalone headset which is able to track the movement of legs (something extremely difficult to do as legs are difficult to track properly because of how headset tracking works).
VR chat is like silliness and some maps with scripted actions. Meta-Verse is like Meh and Glad graphics and then i am not sure what kind of maps. But Chinese people and Russian people and Ukrainian people at least for sure are not very smiling people. Indians i am not sure. So it would be for western europeans who look good or creamy sometimes or with specific styles, and in the Metaverse they would look much less then their real life selves.

Mark zuckerberg thinks that just like him everyone is unable to express true happiness through facial expressions and instead show some contracted nervous fake expressions so for him this is revolutionary
I bet maybe since Zuck's been the boss of a major company for so many years, he's forgotten what it's like to not be at the top and have to follow professionalism more strictly. Who at Meta is going to tell him that he can't have a cartoon avatar during a zoom call? @@jwall0 hell nah that can't be real

They’ve spent more than $15 billion dollars, according to Business Insider.

@@beelzemobabbity as many have said, Mark/Meta has literally no idea what people actually want out of this type of project.
I guess they're trying to copy the "success" of Second Life 😂
At least the realistic meta characters will be great bases for horror games!
More like the party’s been over but Suckerberg still showed up for some reason 💀
gotta love how Meta is literally having a "if our audience doesn't know it/not mainstream to boomers then it doesn't exist" mindset
Exactly, its hilarious how people think this is a new and revolutionary idea when Second Life exists and has thrived for almost 20 years now.
Doing things better and with legs since 2003! 😂
@@AvelierPlays actually yeah! Second life used to be mainstream so I'm suprised their audience doesn't remember it
I remember playing second life when I was like fifth grade age, how do they not remember
@@AvelierPlays it’s so funny to me that an almost 2 decades old game looks objectively way better than Zuccs billion dollar project lmao
I'm a year late, but the funniest part of Metaverse Dying was when Daniel RTGame Streamed himself playing Metaverse the stocks plummeted like 20 or 30 percent *during* his stream.
An Irishman killed Metaverse by showing off how bad it was.
Charlie's gonna look real silly when Zuck unzips his suit and reveals we've always been in the metaverse
The funniest thing about this comment is that I can't actually tell if it's ironic or serious.
@@MaxMustermann-hy9in makes sense with the name
I like to imagine Mark actually uses his Metaverse avatar for company meetings.
real life mark is his avatar and metaverse mark is the real one
No need to imagine, I 100% believe he does like people believe in God.
@@mrbeefy604
I concur... Being in a global IT company and seeing what "all hands" meetings are like... This absolutely, 100% for sure happened.
That's an upgrade for him
thats just for the shareholders
those in the inner circle know him as a lizard robot
"You can already do this on the Xbox 360 with those avatars, or even on the Switch with the Miis in Smash Bros"
did moist completely miss the entire Wii era
Me mentions the Wii almost immediately after he mentions the Switch
As a swedish individual I must say that words cannot describe how happy I am to finally have legs.
Someone should tell Pewds
There is no possible way your ornate language does not have the functional equivalent of "I have legs" in caps lock.
old joke not funny(came out of nowhere, laughed. funny)
Maybe create some avatar sign language to express our international happiness about having legs ?
@@spiritualanarchist8162 💪🦶🦶🦶😱👍👍😎😎
Mark: We now have legs
Me: jokes on this guy I’ve had legs for years
Don't judge the aliens for not having legs, you now that's xenophobic.
It gives me anxiety to think about being a developer for this project
@@wrongteous yes and the video is staged as the animation is captured with motion capture
So basically they havent invent shit
@@robertoromerro why the fuck those people would not be smiling mark is that you?
@@jakub6800 They are rare smilers.
"That's not even as many students in a full classroom."
This is sad for many reasons - not the least off which being that 30 students is waaaaaaaaay too many for a single teacher to work with.
As a full scratch 3DCG artist, thats just literally my Base mesh and "Base Texture" stage of the whole workflow, that is achieveable in less than 6 hours of work for most 3D artists who work at the industry regularly.
Lmao
Right?!

bro it'd be insane if someone made a way better version of the metaverse just for fun to prove how bad the metaverse is
@@chumcity Better versions of this concept ALREADY exist and have for almost 20 years.
If Charlie is directly facing the camera, you know this is serious
👁️👄👁️
@Kavetion no you are not
@@bismarkboi096 bro what did you do to attract the attention of every bot account on the site?
I was visibly shook 😂 the arm on the table and everything
Mind. Blown.
Mark Zuckerberg is the only person who can seriously think that a cartoon version of a person is somehow a substitute for having the camera on. I'm pretty sure my boss would be delighted to see me as a cartoon character flossing. Whoever sent him to this planet needs to send an update to the machine badly.
Who is going to write him up, call him into their office to yell at him, or fire him over him doing goofy nonsense like that? Nobody! But if he were a regular employee at Meta or any other company, he'd probably be in hot water if he tried that...
6:57 "CyberCharles in the Metaverse" sounds like a good name for a videogame...or a prog rock band
