    Welcome to Peterson Family Farm. On this TH-cam channel, we plan to show viewers what happens on a real life family farm in Kansas. From working with animals, to planting seeds, to harvesting grain, to putting up hay, to fixing equipment, you'll get to see what farming is like! Our farm is a 5th generation farm started in 1882 by our great great grandparents. We grow wheat, corn, soybeans, milo, sunflowers, and forages and we feed about 1,000 head of cattle. To learn more about it, watch our channel intro video here: • Welcome to Our New You...

    A day well spent and rewarded at its end with a beautiful sunset! So enjoyed all the scenery, intricacies of how you plow and plant, aerial pictures of all the farm land, and as well, that beautiful western style music!!

    My husband and I have been watching farming videos to try to learn where food comes from, and what goes into it (LOTS OF HARD WORK!). We know nothing, but we do have questions. Our question today is, why do you plant the soybeans at an angle to the corn that was grown there last? It's a neat pattern across the field, but is there a purpose for it?
    The drone shot was stellar! You live and work in a beautiful place.

    So do you plan to irrigate the beans. If so, how without beds & furrows? Gated pipes or siphon tubes?

    • @petersonfamilyfarm1778
      @petersonfamilyfarm1778  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We will make furrows after the beans have grown a bit. Gated pipes.

    How did the Kubota pull the planter? What speed was it able to pull the planter at?

    • @petersonfamilyfarm1778
      @petersonfamilyfarm1778  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We were going about 6 mph which is about as fast as we would want to go with that planter. It's only a 12 row and so it doesn't slow the Kubota down at all. Hoping to have a 16 row next year.

    What is the difference between a planter and a drill?

    • @petersonfamilyfarm1778
      @petersonfamilyfarm1778  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A planter is usually in 15 or 30 inch rows and plants "row crops" like corn or soybeans. A drill is usually 7.5 or 10 inch rows and drills "small grains" like wheat, oats, alfalfa. Beans can be planted or drilled. Both pieces of equipment "plant" a seed in the ground so they are very similar!

    Is that the location the front windshield wiper stays at? I would not like that. JD Green is the way to go!!

    • @justinmartin8887
      @justinmartin8887 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jd green is plastic crap with crap for transmissions these days. Going downhill fast.
      Fendt is basically making a mockery of American tractors at this point

    So how is it following a straight line from a row marker with no hood ornament in that orange Versatile?
