    Your equipment is not so much 'home made' as they are 'handcrafted' and individually designed. Thanks for showing us your journey through making things 'everyone needs' and things 'few of us would have imagined!' The 'industrial engineering' on some of these tools is magnificent! I would guess that many of your designs with legs and metal pans are designed to get the fire out of the cold and the damp (oh...you just said that in the video as I was typing.) That 'twist-lock circle with the 'dingle sticks' is just ingenious! For example: 'you don't even have to tie a notch' tripod disc. There are more good ideas in this one video than other fine bushcrafters offer in a whole series of tips.

    • @Reallybigmonkey1
      @Reallybigmonkey1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Thanks James! I'm glad you liked all the gear. Yep, a lot of my set ups are aimed at keeping the fire off the ground and out of the mud or snow. Way more radical set ups to come in part two!

    I just got done making myself an egg and cheese sandwich since you made me hungry. Now I am watching this video, you sure are knowledgeable. I never seen those sticks. I grew up in the country city. Didn't learn much. But, when I grew up I moved to the rural country hour to town. But, ended up back in city. Going to move back to the sticks. I had an idea to dig a hole and put a grate down in there with a turkey, covered it left air holes, and smoked it in the ground over night. That was so good! I imagine if you was in the swamp you couldn't so these tree hanging ideas are great. Or to save your back from bending over to cook. I can't believe all you fit in a video. So much learning.

    • @Reallybigmonkey1
      @Reallybigmonkey1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL, A lot of my Chef Daves videos make folks hungry. I have that effect on people. A lot of these ideas do stem from swamps and wetlands but yes, they are also back savers. I have double this amount to show in part two! Thanks for watching Angela.

    Awesome video little brother. I made me a couple of your 2 piece dimple and straight pot stands a couple of years ago. I liked the idea of having the upright poke up so things wouldn't slide off. I made mine out of scrap pieces of cattle panels so all I had to do was cut them to size and then make the dimples. I made two to take on an overnight paddle with my sister and brother in law on the elk river. They really took up no room in the kayak. We were pooped by the time we could put in to a place where we could pitch camp on the bank. I popped those two sets in the ground and put a grill across them and used a little bit of ground magnesium and a little bit of ground up fat wood and my ferro cerium rod and had chicken and dumplings so fast you wouldn't believe it. It worked great! Thanks for that idea brother.

    I just found your videos and am really enjoying them. It's my day off, cold and rainy so I'm thinking Ima gonna binge watch for a while. Your ideas are unique in that they are creative and based in practicality. I love that. Your sense of humor and relaxed down to earth nature are very refreshing. And that accent makes me think you may be from my neck of the woods. If I was 10 years younger, you'd be in trouble!
    But seriously, I became a prepper by accident about 20 years ago when I got snowed/iced in for 4 weeks and 3 days. I had just moved, lived on a mountain, and no one could get to me. Just a woman by herself with two dogs. Fortunately I've always had a practical streak and had just "stocked up" on some things for the winter. That was what we called it back then before the term "prepping" had been coined (and horribly over used). Anyway, over the years I have honed my practicality and really enjoy the tinkering and creative, resourceful side of prepping.
    I haven't searched yet to see if you're still making videos, but I hope so. I am learning a lot, and at the risk of repeating myself really enjoy them. You have a lot to offer, so keep on keeping on!

    I have to say, I still love those little green plastic sliding rope hooks and the wooden ovals are cool too. I was thinking a piece of thick wire bent around one side and that crosses or swivels in front (Like a belt buckle) of the hole would act as a built in toggle. Seems to me you could actually take a camping trip, maybe by bike or kayak, and setup a camp using the small devices and gadgets. They're small, lightweight and great time savers such as the "Tripod Disk" that only requires three poles to setup. In combination with your covered bungee cords a person could go minimal, but setup a good camp in short time with minimal labor.

    You are truly blessed to have all your skills and you mentioned your mentor Red I feel like you know how to give credit where it's do! Another word comes to mind and this is RESPECT and honoring those folks who have been a person who taught you how to make very special tools for the great outdoors! You have some really creative ideas and skills! I use to watch videos on brush crafts but I lost interest but after watching this video I'd like to try get into with a mentor because my husband did these things and then I would do the cooking and baking and grilled meals but with heavy cast iron skillets! But I have tendinitis in both my arms and I can no longer a lift those heavy things like I did before. But with the stuff you show it would make it easier on my life! Thank you for all the different ideas on hanging methods with some creative tools! I really perked up when you showed the Ravel bakers items which I love baking bread 🍞 of any types and fruit dishes like mixed berries with apples 🍏! I hope your next video comes out soon sir.👍👍👍🙏

    • @Reallybigmonkey1
      @Reallybigmonkey1  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh very blessed to have had mentors! Now Red was actually my mentors mentor. If that makes sense? Kinda like my Grandfather of bushcraft. LOL. Without them I may not have ever gone into the woods or gone camping at all. That Rival cake n bake is one incredible device! They the lid vents just right for anything that needs baking. Thanks for watching

    Watching the section with the twist disc reminded me of something I saw a long time ago that might be handy at camp.
    I once saw a camp chair that was made with a twist disc. I hope it’s not confusing but you need shorter legs for the tripod then extend the sticks farther through the top of of the twist disc maybe 6 to 8 inches past the top of the twist disc. Then you need to sow a triangle piece of heavy duty fabric that has a pocket sown into every corner. The fabric slides over the sticks that are sticking up over the twist disc. The whole thing locks in and it makes for a pretty comfy chair with minimal equipment or just another use for your twist disc.
    Just make sure the twist disc is sturdy enough to handle your weight.

    Dave, those wood (& metal) tripod discs are a great tool. They save am incredible amount of time. Also saving tons of cordage for other uses. Hint; taper gouge out the wooden discs holes in one direction on one side, the opposite direction on the obverse side. This way each wooden leg lays in it's proper direction & angle with better support. You could probably sell your metal version to Self-reliance for their store. Dave C. definitely appreciates hand made tools. Patent that tool!
