I am joined by Shar Dundred for a cooperative playthrough of Dawn of War II. This sequel is a stark divergence from the original entry and expansions of the build & destroy variety. Instead, the players choose the units to be used prior to beginning a mission, cannot build new units once the mission begins, and has only limited reinforcement options.

The Exterminatus scenes are still give me some chills even a decade later, ngl. Really good execution.
I love the exterminatus cutscene. As for the story, I believe what's going on is that the Inquisition knows there's chaos here but doesn't know who's responsible, so their plan is to blow everything up. Adrastia knows/suspects Kyras is personally responsible but needs proof, and if she provides it and arranges for Kyras's death, there'll be no need to nuke the whole subsector. So that's what you're trying to do. Step 1: prove Kyras is at the heart of all this. Step 2: get 'im.
Oh, and I had the same thing happen with the veteran storm trooper squad. I /think/ what's going on is that at some point they get a sergeant (which the normal storm trooper squad never gets), and his gun is really short-range, so they all move up until the sergeant is in range. Which is very annoying, because it tends to just get them tied up in melee.
Ah, the "run for your lives" map. Was interesting to try it with all the factions.
The enemy tyranids shown here wear hive fleet behemoth colors(dark blue armor, red body), it was the first of its kind imperium fights in the lore. The ones we fight against base and chaos rising and as here are of the leviathan, the biggest and mightiest fought still in the lore sofar(purple armor, beige-ish(?) body). There are more ofc, all take names of mythical monsters(kraken, gorgon, jormungandr etc).
Eldar got different names for said fleets. Kraken they call "starving dragon", and leviathan "far ranging hunger", it was a plot point in a novel to stop these two combining(something about craftworlds getting eaten if that happens), names stuck.

For the exterminatus, there's several kinds - orbital bombing (the most conventional, don't need special stuff to do it) the planet in question, as shown in the mission. There's virus bombing - unleashes life eater virus, which proceeds to eat entire planetworth of everything organic IN minutes, leaving only sludge and gasses, which are ignited via incendiary or laser strike, burning the planet to a crisp(it's survivable if you get to sealed tight air-proof shelter, tho it's doubtful every planet having any). If you got cyclonic torpedo, you drop a few to kill everything quickly, a variant is a two-stage, bores thru to the planet's core and blows it up from within(useful vs airless or necron tomb worlds), and another is a athmospheric incinerator torpedo (one shown killing finally typhon in cutscene, I looked it up specially for you).
Fun chaotic mission with everyone running around and attacking everything.
Loved that the Leman Russ survived till the end too. Was so worried it would go down at the end.
Ah, Typhon Exterminatus. One of the most memorable mission in Dawn od War series.
shar giving the storm troopers anything but melta guns is certainly a move and yeah the last parts script is so weird if you kill the mobs to quickly it takes forever to load in the last bit before the champ spawns in
