Growing up I lived next to a large wooded area. You find cars like these in the woods. My Brother and I used to play in them. I always wondered how they got there. That is where my love of cars started. Awesome Video!

I say this because back when my grandfather was a kid his father always had used vehicles and this was back in the late 30s 40s and 50s And his cousin was born in 1925 and before he died he had a lot of stuff on his property trucks tractors and cars and explained how he always wanted to fix all them up and they were ones that he drove at different times
Jst for the record, the car you thought was VW but then thought it's a Morris Minor, it's actually a Morris OXford MO, the bigger brother of the Minor! Great vids btw really jealous you can still find yards like that! :)
Cassville Georgia has some old cars but I hear he wants too much. There are a bunch in Franklin North Carolina that aren't as high.
The old Bedford lol I remember those from my childhood and they were old then.
My dad bought one. We went on vacation in it, when I was under a year old. I had a picture of it, and me bathing in an old zinc tub.
Too bad I've lost that picture somewhere in time.

I even liked the hammers. A guy could really turn a buck on this stuff. Some junk too, but some things that would sell quickly for good money.
The black Austin is an A105 Westminster, the top of the Austin line at the time and a properly quick car in its day. This car's predecessor the A90 Westminster was the first car to win what is now known as the British Touring Car Championship in the hands of the late Jack Sears, 60 years ago this year. These were the cars that donated their engines and gearboxes to create the famous Austin-Healey 100/4 and 100/6, the first generations of the Big Healeys. They were also extremely popular with British law enforcement and may well be the first proper motorway police car in the UK. Looking at the amount of chrome trim on this car, all of which appears to be in very good order, I suspect this car may be a super-rare A105 Westminster Van Den Plas which had extra bright work (a lot of which was stainless steel rather than chromed mazak) and plusher interior trim with more deeply-padded reclining front seats, the frames for which were made by the same people who made the front seats for Bristol, with burr wood cappings and fold down picnic trays on the back of the front seats. Only a relative handful were made, less than 150 if my memory serves me correctly, with maybe 15 known to be surviving and one "re-creation" built using a good standard body and the interior and trim from a rotten car. Perhaps of more interest is the fact that, apparently, while automatic cars had the standard Austin engine, manual/overdrive cars were fitted with a tuned version breathed upon by Donald Healey...
It did have a fair bit more trim the. Usual, probably sold for nothing...

Essex cars were downmarket Hudsons in the 20s-30s. Oakland was the original, and Pontiac the junior. Vauxhall was a British GM. That wasn't Hummer, but Humber which was a bit down from the RR, and preferred by the Foreign Office. My Uncle used to drive a '50s one from the L.A. consulate.

I was rather surprised to see a Bedford CA van there, 1. because I didn't know they were sold in Canada and 2. they rusted so badly in the UK that I would have thought any sold in Canada would have turned into dust and gone back to the earth a long, long time ago. Even the engine blocks in those seemed to rust, which was surprising as the same engines were used in various generations of Vauxhall Victor and they seemed to be pretty bomb-proof in them...
I owned one before, not easy finding parts
you should go back, but think parts, not restoration. I know If I was there, and had the bux to spend, I would have went nuts on some of them. Always grab a Honda CT90 when you can, they will always resell no matter the condition, so long as you don't pay too much. My rule of thumb for complete bikes but not running is a dollar a CC. sometimes a smidge more for certain ones. Not complete, well that's a guessing game unless you know the prices of parts and repairs well.
At 8:40, I think you'll find that is a Morris Oxford. It's bigger than a Minor and less successful, therefore very rare.
I had a Green 4 door Oxford like that. Paid $300 for it in 1975. Sold it a year later for $500 .

That's true about the snowmobiles being on snow, but years ago I had a friend that used to race them on wet grass, it seemed like there was a sport somewhere in the states just for that,. It's been too long ago I can't remember for sure.

in the 50's or sixties a guy rafted a 30's Oakland down the Yukon river WITH his family,,, fascinating stuff!

The stewart, Steward (or however it is spelled?) @ 6:44 It has such a small frame & appears to still have its motor in it with a white piece of tin covering the motor, I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HAVE THAT! IMAGINE THE COOL LIGHTWEIGHT HOT ROD ONE COULD BUILD WITH THAT!!!!! It's so small that it would have to be fast!!! I LIKE IT ALOT!!!

Or else I would say they might be interested in selling stuff but I don’t know in case you asked me about it but if I ever see him I might mention a word if that something you’re interested in but again I think most of it’s been consolidated from last time I drove by so I’m assuming a lot of his collection has been sold off or scrapped

6.08 HUMBER!!! A mate has one the same,it's a Humber snipe probably 1938. They are a damned good car and used by the English as staff cars in the desert in WW2. my mate is 60 and has owned his since he was 16.. 8.48 thats not a little Morris minor ,it's a big Morris Oxford MO,about twice the size of a Minor :-) ..The little bedford van is normally called a CA. i had a few mates in my teens who were hard up for cars that owned them. One had a Vauxhall 3.3 six in his... Those Essex's were a common (and fast) car in their day .I restored one for a customer a few years ago .The four cyl versions were a great car but the sixes were pretty awful in terms of reliability The 4's were often used in speedway cars.They were the Hyundai of the 20's.But the one i saw that intrigued me was the large tourer at 3:58. Is that a Packard V8 or Cadillac?
+Mercmad Yes, I think you're right, when I first saw it from the side I thought it might be an Alvis but the Humber badge is a bit of a giveaway. That's a pretty rare car today, compared to the Super Snipe long wheelbase cars not a lot of the Snipe saloons were sold and very few remain in the Northern hemisphere as a lot were sold to Australia, New Zealand and the British territories in Africa where there extreme strength and ease of maintenance made them ideal for the arduous conditions. These might well have been the first of the banger boy specials as their dated pre-war styling made them generally undesirable as used cars but their extreme strength and surprising turn of speed made them ideal for banger racing which is where a lot of them went, and you can see why, this one took a big hit but it still looks like a car. I suspect this one, however, is a post-war example as there appears to be detail differences that weren't there on the few pre-war examples made...
My mates is the only one I have seen, He restored it a few years ago although it was in reasonable nick ,but being a typical professional pilot ,everything has to be perfect. He bought it when he lived in New Zealand and bought it with him to Australia many years ago. I doubt there would be too many in Australia. I did however have a later Supersnipe imperial. Now that was a big car!.
+Mercmad I suspect a lot that were sold in Australia are either sitting in out of the way scrap yards or have had their last appointment at the banger track...
My hunch is at one time he’s drove each one being a farmer he Probably bought them used to or three years after they were made at auctions for cars that were going cheap and maybe get a little work to them if needed So we could have them self a car for another five or 10 years but one major thing started to go on him he would just stick them in the barn the farmer and leave them they’re not thinking anything of them and then in the future probably said well I’ll fix these up Someday but never got around to it
I'm really surprised at the Austin's I'm no car guy but I'm pretty sure they look better than the style they sold here.
Also to know just in case you were wondering I believe my grand father’s cousin’s grandson in haired kid the farm in case you ask and has consolidated a lot of the stuff sold it off and I don’t think there’s that much left

That riveted tank was not from a truck . It's far older & carried oil around from house to store on a horsedrawn carriage , the flat piece on the end is where the driver sat . It's exactly the same as the one that was restored in an episode of American Restoration ...

there are collectors and then there are hoarders. some of those cars could be worth 20k if some one would spend 50k restoring them

I'm surprised that Oakland is as big as it is, if I remember correctly they were sold in the UK as being made by the Oakland Light Car Company, and light car was another name for cycle car in the UK, pretty much a step between a motorcycle and side car and a proper car so basically a fore-runner of the post-war three wheelers. As the name suggests they were small, lightly-built with small engines. But that one, well, looked like a proper car...
Our Oakland here were full sized
GM's Oakland and the cycle car were two different concerns. In the later 20s GM twinned a lot of their makes, and Pontiac was the twin. Buick had Marquette, Olds had Viking and Cadillac the LaSalle, which ran from 27 to 40, and was a great looking &running car. I've seen a few at shows.

Pumps sold that day for $500, a customer of mine was there and did t want to bid against him

You misidentified a bunch of stuff e.g. Hummer was a Humber, a great British make, the engine was from a Sunbeam and the Morris Minor looked more like a Morris Oxford.

I am highly impressed at the knowledge Curiosity Inc has, its not like these cars are seen on every corner. To be at his age, he has quite the knowledge. I spent many days of my youth in junkyards and have never seen many of these cars. Great job C.I.!!!!

now some of you people that you just missed it that how many cars are there because it was the biggest one ever in the junkyard in the face but this guy that he just missed in the present and in the past that still works so many junkyard cause right there and he just missed the train I mean if he saw that how many junkyard cars used to look like in the present in the past that it would be ridiculous more classic American cars but however that too little too late that's it

No work except taking them apart. Don't even consider rebuilding most of them. The Lincoln and maybe a few of the others, but they're parts pieces. just the badge off the hupmobile is worth major bux. Think parts, man parts.

I think the American/Canadian way of doing auctions is very disconcerting for the buyer, you buyer's need to stop participating till them snake oil salesmen stop talking that way. Please have a look at BBC America/ Bargain Hunt to see the difference in auctioneer styles.
I’ve seen how the UK auctions are and that’s fine... but the American way can be pretty fun, you just have to learn the ropes on how to bid and get a deal. :)
