  • The kicking game is a massive part of Rugby Union and getting it right can be the difference between winning and losing. In this video I look at how Connacht manipulated Cardiff Blues in the Guinness Pro14, creating multiple opportunities to attack inside the Blues half through astute kicking and attacking play. Wonderfully orchestrated by Jack Carty, the star of the video!

Unreal isn’t it! These kinds of things are missed by the masses (much like my videos 😂)! Should definitely be on those big compilation videos!

I really wish that Carty could get some form behind him again so as to challenge for the Irish 10 shirt. He is so good as a tactical kicker and attacking minded flyhalf. Would love to see him partner Cooney for Ireland

He nailed his all round game in this match. He definitely fires better when Connacht are on the front foot. Maybe some work on the defensive game?

Geraint Davies Rugby Coaching & Analysis Yeah he needs to improve defensively especially if he wants to challenge Sexton. His kicking off the tee can also be hit or miss. I think he’s very much a confidence player. If he were to get the opportunity to play with a 9/12/15 who took the kicks at goal I think that it would do him the world of good. But yeah defence would be a priority. He had a howler last year against Gloucester which really highlighted this as an area he needs to improve if he wants to challenge internationally. He also has young Connor Fitzgerald breathing down his neck for the 10 shirt at Connacht which I think is a good thing

Cooney would be a good match for him I think. There’s decent competition in every Irish team though, so I think he’s going to have to wait a while! Even Byrne as second choice at Leinster is probably ahead of him at the moment! It’s tough at the top!
