How to set coil air gap on puch mopeds and small engines

  • Quick video about setting the air gap on ignition coils. This is for Puch E50s and ZA50 moped engines but you could apply this to really any small engine with coils. If they are too close they will rub the flywheel and cause damage and if they are too large the engine will not run properly.

    I have a question that isn't addressed here but, you may know the answer. I have a 1975 Yamaha 400 that has a lighting coil that over charges the circuit. It produces 9v instead of 6v ac. Is there a rule that addresses the gap adjustment for this?

      No rule about air gap. That's an issue with your charging system.

    We don't like coils when they rub

      Awesome! Yeah I have never heard anyone talk about it. I realized it was a thing when I was rebuilding my stator and my coils no longer fit under the flywheel

    is there a diffrence in performance? when i put it on 0.3 or 0.6 for example?

    • @Corn-ped
      @Corn-ped  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, you'll get better spark. You want it as close as possible without rubbing

      @@Corn-ped Do i have to worry about scraping when the engine gets real hot? is it possible for the metal to expand that much with 0.3?

      @@Khapaleno I don't think it can expand that much
