I highly suggest you to go listen to the original song here:

I'm a 72 year old veteran of the Vietnam War. I've watched this video many times, and I've cried every time. Most people these days couldn't care less about veterans, and just want to forget that we exist at all. It's easier for them that way. It has been said that there are no unwounded soldiers in war - some wounds you can see, and some wounds you can't. Please keep that in mind. We all have scars. Just because our scars aren't obvious, it doesn't mean that we don't have them. War sucks, but our supposed leaders don't learn from history and keep doing the same stupid things over and over again. Just look at Ukraine right now. You're a very kind young lady Bisscute for reacting the way you did. I wish there were more young people like you. Much love and appreciation to you!

Ralph I’m sorry that you and the other Vietnam Vets didn’t get the respect you deserved when you returned Stateside. I have to disagree with what you said about people couldn’t care less about Veterans. In my experience that just isn’t true. I am a 70% disabled Veteran. I get more love and respect from the public than not. Keep fighting those demons Ralph. From one Vet to another I respect you and your sacrifice.

@@maximus11400 Hey, Brother! Thanks for the reply! I agree that vets from more modern wars tend to get more respect from the public. However, those from my war do not! I have been called "baby killer" and "war criminal" in the last year. The war ended 46 years ago, but the hate still goes on. I used to think that the hate and name-calling would end given enough time; I've now accepted that's not going to happen. For us, the war will end when we're all gone. Not to worry my friend, my "demons" are well under control. I have forgiven, but I have not forgotten. I wear my Vietnam Veteran hat every day - just my way of saying: "F*** you! I'm still here! Deal with it!" Stay safe, my brother!

    • @ralphboyer2538

@@lowqualityvideos460 The media tells us that the spitting on Vietnam Vets is a lie; they say it never happened. Don't listen to them. I was personally spit on by a group of war protesters in the San Francisco Airport. So yes, it did happen. It was so bad that we were ordered to not wear our uniform when we left the base here in the states; it wasn't safe for anyone wearing a uniform. The protesters knew which medals and ribbons signified that the solder had been to Vietnam; those soldiers were especially targeted. What people don't understand is that the hate I have received for the last 46 years has made me much stronger. At first, their comments hurt; now I just laugh at them to their face. They're the ones who wasted a good portion of their life overwhelmed by hate! What a miserable way to live!

Just wanted to say, first, thank you for your service. Second, if you need something to draw strength from, Jee Veerey by Bloodywood is a song that saved my life, while I was in the dark pits of my own mind, wanting to end it all. I highly recommend Jee Veerey as a song that prevents suicide, because of the lyrics. It is the reason why I'm here, now, writing this to you, because without it, I may well have taken my own life at the time that song found its way to me.

As a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, from 1976-1992 including during the 1st Gulf War, we volunteer to defend our country, including laying down our life for it. While treatment of veterans has gotten a little better, there is a long way to go. My father served in the US Army from 1947-1969, including 2 tours in Vietnam. There are many more things that our government can do to help, they just aren't in hurry to do so.

@Bisscute: Many things in this video are true. I'm a military veteran, and I've been homeless multiple times. I've even prevented my brother from taking his own life, because of things that were going on at the time.
For many veterans, transitioning back to civilian life is a culture shock, because many veterans find serving a simpler life. Things are more black and white, as it were.
And Bisscute? A lot of people think, rightly or wrongly, that fighting for one's country, particularly America, transposes God for Lady Liberty -- hence God being a woman in the lyrics.
As others have said, thank you for reacting to this song. A lot of the struggles that vets go through is something that a lot of people don't know, because they either don't ask, or they don't want to know.
And for military vets out there, please -- I beg you, if you need help, ask for it. In-country, you always had a team watching your six. Being a civilian is no different. And no matter what, know that your service and sacrifice is greatly appreciated.
Welcome home, and thank you for your service.

They never comeback completely unharmed; whether it’s mental or physical, but some don’t even get to come home. Yet we do almost nothing to pay them back for their sacrifice. So, I just want to say thank you for protecting my freedom. Stay safe. If you’re overseas; comeback alive. Thank you for this reaction. Sorry I'm just seeing it now. I didn't know of your reactions yet. Found you and subscribed today. This is a very powerful song that needs to be heard and mostly seen by everyone who can see it to raise awareness to these issues that still exist for our veterans. I was not a veteran myself but my father was a veteran of Vietnam and had terrible PTSD and issues when he came home which led to drug and alcohol abuse issues. These issues eventually led to him dying young after years of these issues ruining who he was. This really does need to be pushed more as something everyone should be more aware of. Thanks again and take care.

There's been a lot of bad stuff that's happened in Europe in the last few decades and you may have been affected, depending on where you come from. It's not just an issue in America, we are all touched.

I'm a medically retired Marine with 12 years of service and 3 combat deployments. Some men have the mindset to be able to compartmentalize and to put our war behind us and others simply can't. They are in no way less or weaker, they simply need to be helped to reacclimate and accept the reality of warfare. And the song is true. We aren't evil men, but sometimes good men must commit violent acts. Heaven is out of reach but we don't deserve hell. We have already been there.

Thank you for your reaction yes the numbers are unbelievable and have risen since they did the video. I have never made it thru this without tears, this is so much more than a video for some of us, my wife and I are both army vets and 8 years ago on June 29th it will be 8 years since my wife committed suicide, two weeks after our youngest graduated high school. She just couldn’t deal with the physical pain from injuries she received. 22 veterans a day take their own lives, my heart is broken for every one of them and their families.

Our VA system here in the us isn’t the best. Post traumatic stress disorder is very prevalent with the military. There is not a cure for it but there are things that help. There are different levels of ptsd and some don’t allow them to work and they aren’t getting the help they need. I have been diagnosed with it, I am a RN and worked trauma and Er for a long time. I still work and function normally I just have issues with sleeping, it isn’t my friend. I can control my mind when awake but sleep makes me relive things I don’t want to. Bless everyone that has or is serving in the military and thank you for keeping us safe. Thank you for doing this reaction, they need more help

I was a gunner in the Iraq war and I can tell you veterans do not want appreciation just understanding when they come home not the same as they left. All I can say is when I came home I was definitely not the person I was when I left, I excepted that as I volunteered to go but for me the only thing that made sense was my yearning to be there again. I've been home now awhile and got divorced cause of how I was when I returned and again I've excepted that, my problem is I've never felt like I belong anymore anywhere since coming home. My solace has been my understanding of my true friends who are understanding of how I am now compared to before I left. Thank you for sharing this video.

You know, I’m not sexist but women’s reactions to such videos are more powerful than those of men because women are so much more expressive and emotional. And it’s you who we keep in our hearts when we do what has to be done. On a separate note - you’re really pretty. You wanna go fool around some? I’m 73 but I promise you’ll be pleased. Hmm?

I'm 49 now, US Navy Veteran, and my 1st deployment I was 32. The command I was in was evil in many ways. They sent me to Baghdad with NO combat training or SERE, embedded with a Tier One unit, then sent another guy out to "watch" me. A week after he arrived, he pulled me aside and told me what he was told. First they said I was going to do a bunch of stupid things, but what he saw was 180 degrees different, so he felt the need to inform me. They also told him they expected, and intended, for me to not return. How do you react to being told your (immediate) chain of command planned your death. The awards I received upon my return only passed them off more. Unfortunately, for them, I did my job despite them telling me to do the wrong things. I went through three years of hell, and very nearly didn't make it out of that command. So yeah, I have nightmares to this day. I made some good, strong friends in the Tier One community, which only proved to solidify the hatred thrust upon me. And why, you ask? Because I refused to be a 'yesman'. They had a "good ol' boys club" going, but I refused to play. One of my battle buddies called me a year after I left the command to tell me some fun news: that command was kicked out of the entire AOR and banned from returning. A small piece of satisfaction, but not enough to alleviate the torturous memories.
(For those in the know, I'm a Sandsquid, rather than just a Squid)

The sad truth is that these issues are vicious cycles, and not just for veterans. A lot of Americans, and probably just people in general, have a very negative view of the downtrodden of society. The poor and the homeless just to name a few. We unjustly assume that these people have done something to deserve to be there and they're beyond help. When we discuss homeless people, we focus so heavily on the homeless part and not enough on the people part. We spend so much time judging strangers without knowledge and without realizing that's not our place as people. We, as a species, can't move forward until we remember that those experiencing difficulty are just as human as those experiencing ease. And what this video does so well is that it acts as a reminder. It shoves it in your face that the people we look down on the most are still worthy of respect and dignity.
