My cousin ordered a '61 SS with 409- four speed and full chrome package, bright red! Brutal torque, and bubble top, a very rare, beautiful car!

Don’t forget the 409 engines in big cars in Canada.

the white 63 car in this vid,was my car when i was in high school.i drove this car for a short period of time in the 11th grade.alot of the boys would talk trash about it,but nobody ever out run it.they tried, but came up short many times.they would call it,gramma's grocery getter.they soon seen it was no slouch.i sold it in 1984,for 1000 dollars.i wish i had it back now.i found this car again in 1996 at charlotte motor speedway, and the guy that owned it at the time is in this video, driving it.

I have a 1962 SS 409-409 with factory air. Factory Air was installed at your local chevy dealer. The factory air unit came to the dealer in a package placed in the 1962 trunk.

jerry sykora is the guy that owned the 63,when i found it in charlotte.he worked for yearone,at the time.he and i became freinds, and i tried to buy it back from him,but couldnt come up with the funds.im now restoring a 63 convertable for a customer of mine,it looks just like the car in the video, but is a convertable.this car has a 400 hp 409,a/c,am/fm,power windows, top, steering, brakes, positraction, padded dash, tilt wheel,ss package, dual mirrors/antaneas..car is really loaded.# matching too!

well,i have one of very few in my shop..its a# matching.we have the biuld sheet,it mentions the a/c,and the biuld code #'s match, and the serial #'s are there,as well.i was told you couldnt get a dual quad engine with anything but a four speed, but ive seen 62 409/409 with a 3 speed on the column, with paper trail.they do exsist, just way rare.how about a 62 409/409 belair bubble top, with air,p seat, and tilt wheel?i have a freind that tells people this is real,i know that it is "NOT"

well,if it was a 4-speed with first gear deleted, this car was column shift...no such thing as 3-speed floor shift in 62 or automatics for that matter

to bad Chevy didn't put the 409 in a lighter car.

It weighed about 625 LBS, too heavy for a light car. It was designed as a truck engine and so it had extra metal for longevity.

@@johncollins2442 It was "designed" for the heavier cars of 1958 and future years. Chevrolet made all their engines available for trucks but even the two ton medium duty trucks were mostly 6cyl until the sixties.

Why does these cars on here have their ass end jacked up so high. That's not the way they were. Looks like crap that way.

3 speeds did come behind the 409's,but most that had the 3 speed were the smaller h.p. motors, such as 340 and 380 horse powered engines, but to see a dual quad 3 speed car would be really rare, but there is atleast one documented 62 four door car,409/409 3speed.alot of the pontiacs came with 3speeds,because they were faster with 3speeds,than 4speeds,especially the 389 g.t.o's,from 64 to 66.
