  • Here I show that due to a clipped vacuum line all the air vent controls stopped working. With a $3 vacuum line splice I fixed it.

Saw your video, and thought to myself, "Naw, can't be that easy, i'm gonna have to tear the whole dash apart to figure this out." But I went ahead and tried it, and boy, am I glad I did! Planning a trip with my wife who is just finished with chemo (breast cancer, she beat it!) and she gets hot flashes bad, so when I showed her that the AC works, damn near got me some, right there and then, with that good AC blowing over us. But we didn't want the neighbors calling the cops (again), so we behaved. But thank you, thank you!

Another thing to check. The knobs on the HVAC, the plastics old and brittle. Mine was stuck on one side and when pulling the knob, pieces of the knob were cracked. The defrost, other settings were all fine with no
    breakdown. 10$ fix!

Thank u sir!!!!!!! I have a 2000 Buick Century and just replaced my ac compressor with a used compressor from a salvage yard which the car needed. After charging the system, it was blowing cold air, but barely and not hard through the dash vents, only the floor. I replaced the ac unit control panel to no avail. After skimming the internet for possible solutions to replacing cabin filter to actuator, your solution worked. Thank u!! Thank u!! Thank u!! because the temperatures this summer have been souring into the 100 degree mark. Wow!!! You are a live saver!!!

I had the same problem with a 2002 Buick Regal I purchased for a 16 year old driver. After assuming it was one of the vent controllers under the dash I was not looking forward to taking the dash apart to fix that.
Plenty of TH-cam posts from people replacing those, but a big task working under dash and removing parts.
After I saw your vacuum line post I checked the line under the hood, sure enough broken right next to battery. A few inches of rubber tube to make the splice and all works normal. This was a real lifesaver. Thanks a lot

I already ordered the mode actuator and just found your video. I traced my vacuum line back to the battery and it was fine. I then traced it back to the top of the engine and the vacuum line slipped out of the nipple! I disconnected the nipple, slid the vacuum line back into the nipple and reattached it to the top of the engine. I started the car and the vent positions finally worked correctly and the air blows in the middle, where is should blow! Thank you very much and you really helped me out! It's been 95 degrees everyday here in Nashville and I was burning up! Also, anyone reading this, make sure you trace it all the way because it could be broken or in my case, just disconnected.

I lost vent control (right knob of the HVAC panel) of my Century 5 years ago. When I turn the knob nothing changes other than some hissing sound. UNTIL I SEE YOUR VIDEO. There is a hole in the vacuum hose in the exact same location as in your video. Easily fixed. Now HVAC works again! I never knew this knob controls vacuum paths instead of electrical signal.

I'm going to be checking this as soon as I get home. I bought this specific car less than 48 hours ago. AC light won't turn off, fan settings work but I can't move from vent, to bi-vent, defrost, etc. Its stuck on the vents in the middle of the dash (can still control heat settings on either side). I'm getting NO AIR to the defrost though. I also found water inside my car this morning (not coolant). I'm not mechanically inclined so I was looking up heater core, actuators, blower motor and resister, etc and found this video. I obviously also need to check my cabin air filter and cowl. Praying this is the fix (and cabin filter) my only concern is that I have NO defrost. If this works, I want to send you a thank you card and some beer - you will be my hero! Pffft, you ARE a mechanic.
Thank you for posting this! I can see you already saved some people serious money and time.

Yes it sounds like the selector switch is not functioning. probably do on this type of vehicle because you have a leak in the vacuum seal somewhere. any trouble just let me know. I'll do what I can to help.

Follow up: I looked on the lines and found the line cracking after the t-junction by the battery. It was the line outbound towards the vent system, to which when I touched it, it completely broke. I took an improvised tube from my anti-freeze tester and rejoined the broken line perfectly ABOVE the wiring loom it was tucked under. Turned on car and ran A/C to full pressure, and even with engine at higher RPMs. Good fix!

On a vacuum hose splice as you did I've at times experienced where it backs off. I put one drop of super glue on each end of hose and problem solved for a hose that is not to removed for a long time or ever again. Cutting at the ends where the glue is at allows to disconnect and reuse.

Your vacuum line was NOT cut. These types of plastic lines deteriorate and snaps off clean like a green bean. lol.
Great job finding that hidden location.
I am working on a 2000 lesabre, warm air on driver's side. Blend door actuator removed and manually in position but still warm. I am looking for vacuum leaks now since some other door must not be fully closing or opening. Thanks.

Will be looking for this on my 1998 Century. Hoping it works as it runs full pressure when at idle speeds, but flaps out to floor when at higher RPMs and stays low when at over 45mph. I figured was a vacuum line leak, but this COULD be the issue as it started after I hit hard bump a week ago on way home. Has had issue of air flow control ever since. Thanks for the tip!

Would you please or anyone tell me where is the other end side location! Where is it coming from? I bought a new vacuum line I connect the first side to the intake manifold engine it's clearly visible easily, but I have no idea where to connect the other end side! I searched everywhere online but can't find a clear answer or a clear location or how to connect it step by step, it's not even mentioned in the car manual or anywhere!
