- Discover a rare short film tribute in which Leonard Bernstein talks about all three works performed in the new Bernstein "Homage to Stravinsky" DVD (ICAD5124). This video also features documentary sequences of Stravinsky himself.
I could watch Stravinsky roll up his sleeves about to conduct for hours.
Announcer: Stravinsky, are we ready?
Stravinsky: Not yet😄
I was lucky enough to be at the concert. I'll never forget it.
It’s 2020. Still deeply touched by this documentary.
Tribute from one Giant to another Colossus ..... when words are insufficient, yet somehow Lenny says it all ....
April 6th, 2021 was the 50 year mark of Stravinsky's passing at 88 years old. I personally think that just like every other composer out there, Stravinsky had his own musical style. He had a towering reputation, and he left this world, knowing that he impacted it in a ginormous way. May he rest in peace.
"Goodbye." He provided that detail. Maintains his politeness in the presence of those weren't ready yet. It is understandable and not entirely their fault if some of them weren't ready. It would not be unusual for the well-to-do to demand more of the same if they feel they're funding it but their behavior apparently left room for improvement.
The most seductive voice in human history
This is very beautiful and moving

Anyone listening 2021?
'I believe because it's absurd'
Thank you!
Him tipping his cowboy hat to the american guys was so adorable lol I love him so much
Excellent Short Video. The man was a musical Genius. Thanks for the upload. Out.
What a truly wonderful tribute
It’s truly sad where the level of artistry is now compared to to our past.
So elegant, and so savage. Love him
I remember some critics in the late 50s said that after his early, Russian themed pieces, he stole from many composers because he couldn’t come up with anything original again such as his early music. Nonsense of course.
Stravinsky misattributes the phrase "credo quia absurdum" to St Paul; it was actually Tertullian (and there is even some doubt that it is his phrase).
Michael Lee. See, and I thought it was an even later “church father” than Tertullian, though I certainly knew it was not Paul. I believe that there’s quite a lot of modern scholars of the early church/early Christianity that think this is completely apocryphal, but I like it none the less.
It's too bad you cut out the performances from the narrative
Incredible footage, Thank you
must watch...
Does this film appear on the Homage to Stravinsky disc?
+John Randolph Sadly, no
Is there a recording or something of this concert? Please tell me so..
+MrGoodkat94 Yes, you can find it here... www.amazon.com/Leonard-Bernstein-conducts-Stravinsky-Beroff/dp/B00HFQJRYM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453053893&sr=8-1&keywords=stravinsky+bernstein+dvd
Just makes me sad that Stravinsky's music aswell as many XX century composers music was alive only in the XX century.
It is alive today, too.
JulianJules what?
How did Stravinsky learn English?
He use a dictionnary, and a number of good friends to help him practise
He became a US citizen in 1945.
I found and am reading "An Autobiography by Stravinsky" and am floored by his writing and command of English. It gives a deep look into an amazing mind. Try to find it at your library.
"emotional but anti-romantic"
Lol Bernstein keeps calling it his "alchemy." Stravinsky was a goof. This is great.
Goof? What do you mean by that?
you have to be older perhaps. Its a compliment I assure you. Funny Witty "a trip".... a genius... musical chemist
