    Your biter experiment reminded me of this little story of mine: Gun Turrets upgrades work quadratic, instead of all other damage that goes linear.
    Cool I thought, ready to do some fancy science. The hope was to have sufficient research to remove some higher tier guns on the space ships.
    Quadratic sounds good!
    Yet... the catch was it is quadratic with 20% increases. Yet... I prepared a excel table and it showed.... the flat resistances are just too high. We are talking about ammo level 42 to do ~100 damage per uranium bullet to a big asteroid. or like research >45 with legendary red ammo.
    Sadly I looked and realized the devs realisticly never intended to make different ship designs possible.

      I think the infinite damage upgrade for gun turrets got nerfed a bit in factorio 2.0. Then again, the realistically obtainable SPM potential has gone up from 10k to 1-10M/minute

    When you expand the labs, DONT empty theredscience components from the lane next to the green science labs. replace the inserters with longhanded inserters, so that same lane supplies the next batch of red science labs (also with long inserters)

      @ changing out the inserters (yellow to red) vs ripping up and draining the belt. Less redesigning the inputs so the red inputs and green inputs have to cross. when building the second module of labs.

      Having done it in 1.0, honestly the only interesting part is researchign green science (power distribution) with only 2 wooden power poles. I still use that design as a microstarterbase, though...

    Hey Mike, was wondering if you (or someone else) can explain why you want to keep green chunks near your base.
    From what I understand, green means biters can expand to that chunk, right? So why would you want them to expand close to your base?

      He is manipulating biter expansion logic, if there is no biter base within ~8-9 chunks that is able to send an expansion party, he has covered living biter bases spawning points making them unable to produce new biters, then even though the biters will choose a green chunk in his base to expand to, the biters wont actually create an expansion party nor expand to a chunk, this results in the biters "wasting" a turn that they would normally use to expand giving michael hendricks much more time without having to deal with biters

      Ahh I see cause if the biters don't "waste" an attempt they will make an expansion in a red area that is less predictable, right?

      @Lavamar eventually the biters will fill up all the green chunks outside of the pipe border and may start getting close enough to send expansion groups into the walled off area, at which time it could become difficult if not impossible to fend them off
