I have known Steve since we were kids in High School, and we played together all the way through high school and college. Steve is NOT Journey's problem. He is the smartest one in the room as far as they are concerned. Steve is my brother and he is one talented guy, besides his vocal prowess. He is a killer drummer, and after all of these years, he plays every instrument. He is an amazing producer, and he really is a great guy. He is very strong and a born leader.
Neil thought he was the only one that should get the attention. He was a great guitarist, founder of the band with Greg Rolie and he made it clear he did not want Perry in the band. When Steve sky rocketed the band Neil was mad and jealous that Steve was getting all of the glory. Neil wanted to tour and do an album every year. That is his life. Steve wanted a balance. It is a shame that Neil couldn’t give a little to let the band have a little down time for themselves. I don’t know how Steve put up with his arrogance as long as he did! Love Ariel. I loved Strange Medicine. It had a unique sound. Some of the songs had an erie but beautiful sound. I saw him on that tour and definitely got my money's worth.

Journey's music was horrible before Perry joined. I was lucky enough to catch a live performance July 10, 1977 at Soldier Field in Chicago, where Neil introduced Steve Perry as their newest band member. First they performed a few of their older songs without Perry, WHICH ABSOLUTELY SUCKED, and then Steve came out and started singing. HOT DAMN, I was blown away!!! The beauty and effortlessness of his voice was truly staggering and I became a fan of Journey as soon as Perry started singing Wheel in the Sky. Saw them 6 more times in concert afterwards while Steve Perry was still in the band.

Terence Trent D'Arby supposedly did a killer version of Honkey Tonk Woman with them and Richards supposedly was keen about him to front the band. However, I really didn't believe it at that time nor do I now. I think it was PR to see if he could rattle Jagger.

I have the Houston, Texas 1981 dvd, and during the "Who's crying now" outro, Steve was standing at Jonathan's piano smiling at the audience behind them. Neal looked back during his solo, looked forward and rolled his eyes. He knew MTV was shooting a video, and I thought " what arrogant idiot."

Perry’s work wasn’t appreciated or supported in the band , when together! Before Steve - journey - was just loud noise, the music was soundless and unheard of no body had any idea of what was been played, when Perry joined , the music became known to the world through his voice !! His knowledge of writing methods from his heart ❤️ and sole !! this he had to teach the rest of the band members what was missing and together with Steve’s influence became the improved band of JOURNEY !!!

Steve Perry’s first band was the Sullies and not Ice. I used to hang out with and go with them to some of their gigs back in the late 60’s. Ice was much later.

Steve Perry left the band JOURNEY for good in 1998 when Jon Cain called him to inform him to get “hip surgery” NOW (1998)or we’re gonna find a new singer.Steve said medical decisions are not BAND DECISIONS. Steve was run like a horse for 10 years from 1977-1987, never stopping to take breaks in touring and then the next album. He left in 1987 because his girlfriend Sherrie Swafford left him in July,1985 and his Mother Mary died in December,1985. The man had no time to grieve his Mothers death or deal with the loss of girlfriend Sherrie that had dated him for 6 years. In 1986, he went full on for the “Raised On Radio Tour” with only Perry,Cain and Schon as Steve fired Steve Smith and Ross Valory! Very bad decision!!! He toured all 1986 and in early 1987,he called Jon and Neal to meet him at the water near San Francisco. He told them “I’ve just gotta STOP. I wanna quit.” So,that put JOURNEY into a very long hiatus without informing the fans what had happened. Steve went into hibernation from 1987-1994. 1995, Steve reunited with JOURNEY members Cain,Schon, Valory and Smith to work on the album “Trial By Fire.” Steve went to hike Hawaii to get in shape for touring that album in 1996 and had to return home to California due to a hip injury and needing to get hip replacement surgery. ****STEVE PERRY**** Your fans of 50 years truly MISS YOU ❤

Steve Perry is my idol, I was 18 when lovin touchin squeezin came out and i bought it on a 45 vinyl and played it nonstop when I was a cocktail waitress in the disco era, I would love to meet him one day. That would be a dream come true for me even in our old age!

Its always interesting to hear the other side of a story. On him reuniting with Journey is like reuniting with an old lover. Something you might want to see but to many things have happened to ever come to fruition.
I've been a fan from the beginning. Without any of of them there wouldn't be the music people love today. What ever goes on between them is there own. All the music is great. Continuing with the band is appreciated. One person doesn't make a band. It's great they found a singer who sing the songs.
It's very obvious that Neil's super ego was to blame for their breakup. The fact that he was not willing to wait for Steve to recover from the hip surgery says it all. He was jealous of the fame and attention Steve earned. As much as he is missed in the band, I am so glad that he made the decision he made. I felt very sadden and yet pround of him for admitting that he lost his joy for music. How does one loses their joy for something that they love to do? Only Steve and the members of the band know what was trully going on. Thank you Steven for having the courage to walk away when you did and for giving yourself the necessary time to find your way back as a solo artist.

I loved Strange Medicine. It had a unique sound. Some of the songs had an erie but beautiful sound. I saw him on that tour and definitely got my money's worth.

Journey's music was horrible before Perry joined. I was lucky enough to catch a live performance July 10, 1977 at Soldier Field in Chicago, where Neil introduced Steve Perry as their newest band member. First they performed a few of their older songs without Perry, WHICH ABSOLUTELY SUCKED, and then Steve came out and started singing. HOT DAMN, I was blown away!!! The beauty and effortlessness of his voice was truly staggering and I became a fan of Journey as soon as Perry started singing Wheel in the Sky. Saw them 6 more times in concert afterwards while Steve Perry was still in the band.

My heart goes out to Steve Perry, his personal journey has been full of heartache... after 28 years of marriage, my husband died on 2nd June 2023 and I'm still trying to find myself. As for Journey & Neal = without Steve Perry's singing voice your band would have got nowhere which is where you were when Steve Perry joined you, your fame is due to Steve Perry's singing voice.

Terence Trent D'Arby supposedly did a killer version of Honkey Tonk Woman with them and Richards supposedly was keen about him to front the band. Perry’s work wasn’t appreciated or supported in the band , when together! Before Steve - journey - was just loud noise, the music was soundless and unheard of no body had any idea of what was been played, when Perry joined , the music became known to the world through his voice !! His knowledge of writing methods from his heart ❤️ and sole !! this he had to teach the rest of the band members what was missing and together with Steve’s influence became the improved band of JOURNEY !!!

Get your JOURNEY FACTS straight before posting your assumptions. Steve Perry left the band JOURNEY for good in 1998 when Jon Cain called him to inform him to get “hip surgery” NOW (1998)or we’re gonna find a new singer.Steve said medical decisions are not BAND DECISIONS.
Steve was run like a horse for 10 years from 1977-1987,
never stopping to take breaks in touring and then the next album.
He left in 1987 because his girlfriend Sherrie Swafford left him in July,1985 and his Mother Mary died in December,1985. The man had no time to grieve his Mothers death or deal with the loss of girlfriend Sherrie that had dated him for 6 years. In 1986, he went full on for the “Raised On Radio Tour” with only Perry,Cain and Schon as Steve fired Steve Smith and Ross Valory! Very bad decision!!! He toured all 1986 and in early 1987,he called Jon and Neal to meet him at the water near San Francisco. He told them “I’ve just gotta STOP. I wanna quit.”
So,that put JOURNEY into a very long hiatus without informing the fans what had happened. Steve went into hibernation from 1987-1994. 1995, Steve reunited with JOURNEY members Cain,Schon,
Valory and Smith to work on the album “Trial By Fire.”
Steve went to hike Hawaii to get in shape for touring that album in 1996 and had to return home to California due to a hip injury and needing to get hip replacement surgery.

A few months ago, Steve said he is working on a new album, has a new record deal, and might be touring in 2025.
This video makes it sound like his whole life has been one tragedy after another. That’s not the way i remember it. Steve was what made Journey the biggest band in the 80’s and when he left to solo he did just as well. Everyone goes thru ups and downs but i’d rather have lived his life than mine. Shit i painted cars for 20 yrs, he sang, got laid and made millions.

I've been a fan from the beginning. Without any of of them there wouldn't be the music people love today. What ever goes on between them is there own. All the music is great. Continuing with the band is appreciated. One person doesn't make a band. It's great they found a singer who sing the songs.

It's very obvious that Neil's super ego was to blame for their breakup. The fact that he was not willing to wait for Steve to recover from the hip surgery says it all. He was jealous of the fame and attention Steve earned. As much as he is missed in the band, I am so glad that he made the decision he made. I felt very sadden and yet pround of him for admitting that he lost his joy for music. How does one loses their joy for something that they love to do? Only Steve and the members of the band know what was trully going on. Thank you Steven for having the courage to walk away when you did and for giving yourself the necessary time to find your way back as a solo artist.
