Governor's Island is a special place for me. I used to work there back in 1990. I always saw people getting big fish there. I miss the Coast Guard. That island is a jewel.
That spot by the Brooklyn bridge is 5 mins from were I grew up. I never once thought of fishing down there. So awesome to see you hitting the porgies hard like that! Great video
I love the unlimited spots in NYC, they always change the construction in some way or debris create new structure. I swear the best ones are right in the backyard. Cheers hitman appreciate you watching bud!
Hey Bob! You finally made it!! Glad to see you enjoyed as much as I did (years ago). I too was getting porgies on one side and baby black seabass on the other. I wish the island offered more free activities. I think most are paid activities created by the rich business.
It was a blast! Governors Island is so peaceful, I really enjoyed the view on Manhattan but with silence. It's unique. I think you are right, I saw some bike rentals and stuff but it was all paid. And some pretty fancy mini home/ tents for camping but it seemed reservation type.
I didn't know there was a golf course in there! I thought I covered the whole place on my bicycle. That must have been a nice time serving in the 90's on the island.
@@BobAquaticNice course around Castle Williams. I fought going there from Miami and then loved my time there. They said it was like being in Iowa in the middle of the world's most populous city.
Beautiful place now open to all. When I worked on Wall Street in the 80s my retired military id card got me on the ferry and I'd spend some time in the very well appointed Officers Club! I do hope it hasn't been razed. Never fished there though.
@@frrok1 I tried a few times but end up getting a lot of small tog in the summer. I've only caught one sheepshead in NYC from shore, its tough. Boats better option to target them. Appreciate the comment, thank you frrok1!
You can totally use supermarket shrimp. It'll work totally fine. I go to a seafood market near my place because its cheap and buy a few pounds, break it up into bags, then freeze it for future trips.

It is a jewel, I totally agree. That must have been really peaceful working out there but also having the option to go into the city.
The porgies are so cool. They are like the Bluegills of salt water. I really enjoyed watching you catch them.
I wish they were easy to catch like the bluegill lol
I totally agree, they are the bluegills of saltwater. When they are there, you'll know it. Appreciate you watching! Thank you big buck
Awesome trip to Gov Island ... nice catches like always ....

Thank you Coney! Governors island is a beautiful place

@BobAquatic I was just goofing, lol
That's the thing I enjoy about your content. You are able to convey your passion for fishing...👍🏻
My brother I've been working on the island for two years everyone keeps telling me to bring a rod! Nice size porgies great job.

Thank you Girlfinfishing, appreciate you watching the episode
Мне всегда были интересно посмотреть какую рыбу можно поймать на территории города Манхетен👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you Marti3668!
The porgies are so much fun to catch. I wonder why it’s catch and release only over there?
Not too sure, it is a bit odd the island has its own fishing rules. There are signs for catch and release too.
Good porgy action out there.
Oh yeah some solid porgy action, thank you Lou
Served on GI during the mid-90's. Fun little golf course. The only fish we saw then were Coney Island codfish.

@@stevesapp4293 the Iowa reference is totally accurate, it’s a really bizarre perspective when you look back at manhattan and everything’s quiet
You can catch blue fin off gov island and sometimes battery park bring a big reel lol
Oh yeah not a lot of people know about that in the city. Its pretty sick, I seen the boats out there and the birds workin one day

It is a beautiful place, they do a wonderful job taking care of the grounds
You think targeting sheepshead at some of these pilings would work out? Have you ever tried that here in the NE?
@@frrok1 possibly, you’d wanna fish crabs. They usually reside the bays in the summer
@@BobAquatic yes. Of course. Curious if you’ve ever targeted them. Good luck Bob.

hey, do you know if i can use any type of shrimp or needs to be specific ? would the supermarket shrimp work for fishing ?

u ever try to use spoons and cast and retrieve?
Oh yeah love the spoon!
Is kayaking allowed at Governors Island?
I saw some kayaks in a rental place but I don't think it was open this time of year
Where are the saltwater cats .....................................in Florida they suck a lot
