Snowdonia Landscape Photography - Llyn Idwal and the Ogwen Valley

- This week I am back in one of my favourite places in the world, the fantastic Snowdonia National Park, and more specifically the Ogwen Valley.
I head up to Llyn Idwal to take the iconic image of the Glyders from the bank of the llyn before heading down the valley by the along the path of the stream to take some shots of the waterfalls and cascades.

Haha, in my last video I felt already a litte bit disturbed by that foreign person which came to me into the canyon, but you definitely topped this with the fighter jet in the calm nature ;) Oh, and your work is really absolutely fantastic, my friend! Greetings from Austria ;)
Thanks very much that's very kind of you! What you didn't is that the jet came over again off camera and I physically ducked for cover!!

Thanks mate :-) I thought that last shot would have benefitted from a bit of decent light on the far mountains, but you cant have it all :-)
Another very enjoyable video Gary, what a stunning place and fantastic photos mate, I will have to visit there some day. I had tornado jets blasting overhead when I was in North Norfolk, they are loud! :)

I was at the top of either Glyder Fawr or Glyder Fach in thick cloud when a jet scared the shite out of me. I need to come back to Wales and recapture the shots I lost due to HDD failure.
Garry Blackburn I honestly think I’d have fallen off the mountain if I’d have been up where you were with no visibility and one of those jets flew over 😬
The Ogwen valley is on my hit list when I go to Snowdonia at Christmas. I can't wait to shoot there with my new camera. As always your vlogs are inspirational, the b-roll and images are top rate too.

I've got a funny feeling I've been to the Ogwen Valley and up the Watkin's Path....or maybe I've seen so many vlogs about it I'm remembering it through other people's eyes!

Love Tryfan , was up there a few years ago for a hike with friends, great vlog and images mate.
Tryfan is an iconic mountain in my opinion, although I'm not sure I'm in any shape to climb it!

This path and the Watkin path are my two favorite walks in north Wales, yes they have both been photographed to death but it's always a first time for the individual, besides no photo can do justice to the area.
Beautiful images Gary, May I ask how the walk to Llyn Idwal is please? Would love to go, it’ll be next year now though. I’ll have to try and do some leg strengthening exercises beforehand. Truthfully though, I just want to push myself both in my photography and what I can do physically
Brian Egerton it’s really not to bad at all. It’s a relatively shallow incline on a very good path for about 15 minutes. I can do it comfortably so it can’t be that taxing 👍

It's a fantastic location for Photography. I love visiting there, just a shame it's so far to get too!! A few years back I took some images of the waterfall under the miners bridge, it was lashing down and got soaked!!! I hope David did give you too much stick for getting the name wrong!! Lol. I think once you find the Ogwen it is as you say easy to gravitate too. Sometimes on my visits north I just drive down through there just TO soak in the atmosphere that place has - and like many places it seems to have it's own weather system. Earlier this year I had 24 hours in NW and spent it in the Ogwen, it rained most of the time I was there even though it had been sunny on my way up and feeling frustrated I spent one night and headed the 3+ hours home, to find other parts had been weather okish, typical. Given that the weather was what it was mate and I think your images shown were good, I always like a good mono as you know and the 2nd one was my fave. Have you another vlog from your trip or was this a quick trip? Btw, it wasn't the Afon Lloer, pmsl. PPS, Thought you was handling the pronounciations like a sheepsha**ing Welshman, nice one ;)
Honestly mate, I sat and watched the vlog with my wife and every time I said llyn she tutted!! She thinks that I sound like a prat... As for the weather, I absolutely agree with you. Last year we stayed in Y Felinheli which is only a few miles away and while it was a pleasant 12 degrees C there it was blizzard conditions in the Ogwen valley!
Oh and yes there are a couple more vlogs coming from this trip 👍

Yeah I love it there and going back again in a couple of weeks and hopefully it's not too bad weather but bad enough to get some good shots 😁
