Wow! I love it!
it sure is a nice railway
Dromod is my family home land, my father Jack Shanley and his brothers worked at Dromod station during WW2, their job was transfering coal from the narrow gauge railway to mainline gauge. Now 70 years old, I just remember the narrow gauge rolling stock parked up at Dromod.
I do realise that in the past 60 years, the rail road is mostly built over, so consequently, there is a very limited line for the heritage railway to run on. Sadly some of the very valuable steam locomotives have ended up in the USA and elsewhere. Not wishing to be too critically. How about a big clean up and get the scrap boy's in to clear out what is not related to the narrow gauge railway and bus travel. Dromod is forever in my heart. The Shanley's who worked at Dromod station were Jack Shanley (my father) and his brother Michael Frank, who was a signal man on the main line. Jack ended up in Mullingar as a signal man.
it is people like you who take the time to tell their story that makes railways such an interesting hobby. indeed, it would be lovely to devote the Cavan and Leitrim to its original rolling stock and rebuild the line. indeed, Dromod is a beautiful town today. I can only imagine what it would have been like during WW2 trying to keep Ireland running on arigna coal. thanks very much for taking the time to share your story.
Great showcasing of this wonderful museum. Loving the accompanying music!
thanks. it really is a great place to visit
Great video its a fantastic railway got to get back again
it is nice to see when you are not in a rush
When we were there the day of the Sligo Leitrim Railtour wee didn't get alot of time to see it all just had time to ride behind Nancy & film here.
Is there any story around the RTE Outside Broadcast scanner by the line?
yes. it used to be owned by RTE however when RTE no longer needed it they sold it to the Cavan and Leitrim railway for preservation. there are all sorts of old veacles like it there. unfortunately the railway does not have enough money to keep them indoors so it is not opperational.
