The fact that GDL didn't receive even a *nomination* for the Game Awards for his performance in Veilguard is a crime against humanity. He was always fantastic as Solas, but he knocked it out of the park in Veilguard.
It just feels so truncated. There are glimmers of the great story that started and some really good moments... But it's just not enough for 10 years. It feels like so much potential wrapped into a nothing sandwich.
solas used blood magic, betrayed, killed, manipulated people and ignored the inquisitor for 10 years only being redeemed due to mythal... And yet the inquisitor, for some reason, decides to spend eternity in the fade, locked away from every single person she knows with the man who very clearly does not care nor them and has never stop using her for his own goals. What a terrible way to end her story.
It would’ve been so easy too. Add a couple more heartfelt lines of dialogue. Make the Mythal thing happen first. Would’ve been sooooo satisfying to solacemancers while not changing anything for everyone else.
you can see the true confliction between love and duty in inquisition. the idea that the world needed to be restored than to suddenly meet someone who makes the current world seem bearable and almost worth saving, the confliction to his duty to mythal and his people, the need to set right the wrongs he had committed, he was stuck in the past and wouldn't allow himself to feel and commit truly to the love he felt selfish for indulging in. in the end it would be that love that was his salvation. i like the way the story ended for them. it feels right. and was probably the only redeemable part of dragon age veilgaurd.
Only one of the best and most traumatic playthroughs of a game I ever had - took me completely by surprise....the characters and the story is amazing. This make me want to play it all over again. Solas - both love and hate him - he is perfectly written. Alas, dareth shiral Dragon Age franchise - Loved you dearly.
I've never been so shocked about a reveal in all my life. Even from reading fantasy books. This was just wild 😂 and I remember having to pause the game and just sit there with my mouth agap. Very sad about veilguard, I won't be playing it because the game I had in my head was much better
@HaleySmith agree so much. The betrayal felt real after all you'd been through with Solas. Won't be playing the Veil-one either. It will forever be a cliffhanger in my mind. Works better. Lathbora viran, Solas.
Thank you for making this! I didn't care for Veilguard on the whole, but I was happy at least my Lavellan finally got closure and a happyish ending with Solas. It was worth it just for that!
One of the best anti-heroes in a long time. His story is so well written and I'm glad to have seen it to the end (for now?). Inquisition gave a us a glimpse into who he was with Trespasser revealing there was so much more to him. Veilguard showed us in his full dread wolf glory along with his regrets, pain, and duty to Mythal who was the only one who could end his misguided and selfish reasons for destroying the world. I played with my romance inquisitor and the secret ending. It was perfect and sad but with hope. It was presented, voice acted, and animated beautifully. I know this will be the end for his character in games but I hope there is more in his future journey to try and right his wrongs but with a new perspective given to him by Mythal of protecting everyone as well. A book maybe?
As fabulously as this was acted. Telling Solas off as Rook has to be my highlight of this game because the hurt of the voice actor is just insane. Particularly because of the context with Varric's arc
Felt painfully onesided for Lavellan lol(aside from that last end note) Anyway, thank you for making this as some of us who dont wanna buy it can see the story reach its end. Much appreciated, saved me $60.
@@trustnoone5821inquisitor still going in the fade with someone who treated them like a dog is wild 😭 It honestly should have been a bittersweet romance ending since Solas hadn't changed until literally the final moments and due to a ghost not the inquisitor mind you...
@@dr_diddy oh ya I was pissed that apparently his reasons were all because of mythal? Like wtf why did he kill her then I genuinely thought he felt bad for what he did to his people and not mythal like this game changes the lore so much from inquisition
thank you for this! admittedly, I’m still yet to complete inquisition (I’m pretty far through) but after finishing veilguard, it hurts to see how even the ‘best’ ending makes the inquisitor look a bit of a beg, for lack of better word lol
I dislike DAV and could write essays about how it failed to use the great setup from Trespasser, but it gave me a happy ending for Solavellan and for that, I'll always be thankful to... Trick Weekes (because we all know he is the only reason we got it), DAV gets some credit I suppose, for being the vessel.
well veilguard did not do them justice and idc what other people say it definitely felt like the inquisitor was an npc unimportant character one sided love and then there was solas and mythal mythal mythal bro was so uninterested in the inquisitor they had the best opportunity to make the next game abt solas and how the inquisitor would try to stop him instead solas is a side character while the inquisitor is barely one the end did not server well bro was literally abt to leave without saying goodbye to us too what a waste of potential could have been the best love story even rook had more chemistry in this game with him
[...] while the inquisitor is barely one [...]" that's just dragon age, though. your warden never shows up again, though they do get mentioned a few times. hawke got name dropped in veilguard and MAY have had a brief cameo in inquisition depending on your world state.
Honestly this reminded me of a relationship between a wife, a husband and his mother. Mythal is very much a mother figure for Solas, and as much as he loves Lavellan and she is his wife material, the love for his mother cannot be replicated. His mother, however, is dead, so he needs mommy issues healing with Mythal before he can move on to healing his other issues with Lavellan. This is how it is to be a wife, and if you were ever in a serious relationship, you’d know. It is psychologically believable. Lavellan romance has to take Solas’ issues and past into account or you don’t really love him. Before he met the Inquisitor, Mythal was his whole life. She may be dead now, and it is time for Solas to move on but his past with her doesn’t just go away. And in Veilguard he finally does heal and move on. Lavellan has had plenty of ego moments for herself as the Inquisitor, saving southern Thedas throughout both Inquisition AND Veilguard. Retiring to the Fade to help her beloved heal will feel like a vacation.
Saving this for watch later since I haven’t finished Veilguard yet. Your Inquisitor looks similar to mine, and is also a rogue so this is gonna be good ❤
Ooh I normally just except the disapproval and tell him to spare the mages. I like to think Lavellan curbs his anger. Also: "It's been so long since I could trust someone. I'll work on it. Thank you." The remain video being 47 minutes of cut scenes where he has clearly not "worked on it."
I'm little confused by all of the positive and negative reviews of the veilguard..I always thought in trespasser he said that the mark will kill the Inky, so in my mind I thought that he loved her but knew that they don't have future because of it, so he kept his original plan. Can someone explain to me am I wrong or not? He did say it? Everyone says it was only because of regret. Thanks for the whole solavellan story, this is great!
Not sure what inky is. I've seen that name everywhere so I'm guessing it means the Inquisitor but the mark would have killed you but Solas takes your arm away so the mark can't spread. That's how you survived.
The gods are immortal while they have an archdemon. The other five gods had their archdemons killed by Grey Wardens in the five blights, and likely ended up being killed by the rest of the Evanuris while on the prison in the Fade.
Ah, dragon age full of love, betrayal, and sacrifices! Just like real life! 😂 idc what anyone says, dragon age veilguard was not a bad game. I've played worst from Bio Ware, honestly.
Now I can rest in peace with this romance concluded in a good way :'3 Solas broke my heart in Inquisition, I didn't want it to end there. I won't play this game, but I'm happy I could see this.

@NeverendingTori agreed 1000000%. Lost respect for these awards once already when LOU2 won, this just drove the nail in the coffin.
