    • @SavageFlies
      @SavageFlies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Bob! So what do you think about this one not being weighted? I imagine that after a cast or two the marabou will be wet enough that it'll hold water and sink, but I don't think tied as-is it'll ever get very deep. But the recipe did not call for any weight so I didn't put any on it.

    • @FlyTyer1948
      @FlyTyer1948 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SavageFlies Since it seems to be designed as a panfish fly, I’m guessing it was intended to be fished somewhat near the surface. At least, that’s how I would fish it. If I wanted to fish it deep with added weight, I would change the body material & make it thinner like a marabou gray ghost.

    Amazing how things evolve in different places. If you stop this video at 3 mins (before the wing) and sub in a blue wire rib and bead it’s almost identical to a still water lure “I made up” over here which is so deadly I need to retire it although I have plenty of friends wanting it. Also works really well with black marabou and orange floss rib as well. Thanks Matt.

    Cool fly Matt. I learned that marabou body wrap I believe from Larry Tullis's Nymphs Tying And Fishing book a long time ago. A good read and a good book for beginners, which I was when I bought it. Yeah, marabou is a great material and versatile too. BTW that Lord Baltimore video was fun for researching the pattern, Prof Mayer, Lord B., the Oriole bird's name, and the statehood of Baltimore. I don't know if you got it, I still don't see it and I commented twice. I hope this comment connects. Looks like the no carb diet is working, better tighten your belt 😉Thanks for the inspiration!

      Oh thanks Joe, another book I don't have! And Amazon has a used copy for about 3 bucks so I must get it. Thanks for the note on the Lord Baltimore... as much as I loath tying winged wet flies (I'm no Don Bastion), I did have fun with that one. I think a key would just be better duck feathers. Mine seem to be all crap. And that's all of them. Hareline, Nature's Spirit, and I think I have a few others that also look all misshapen. Now about your comments... I don't know what's happening there. I sometimes scan through the comments during the day (while at work and I shouldn't be), but you're always one of the early commenters. And I noticed tonight about 8pm that I hadn't seen you. I was getting worried there! Glad all is okay. :-)

    I was bored one weekend and just tied a bunch of flies like this, not following any recipe. I thought they looked cool but they don't fish real well. They are a bit hard to cast and unweighted tend to hang out in the surface film.
