In this video I review Margaret Walker's (1915-1998) classic novel of historic American South, Jubilee. Jubilee centers around Elvira Dutton or Vyry, a biracial woman, the daughter of a wealthy slavemaster in Georgia and a black slave, the family of her slavemaster father, and the South during the antebellum, Civil War, and Reconstruction times. Margaret Walker was a poet and academic, and Jubilee was her first and only work of fiction. She was a part of the literary movement called the Chicago Black Renaissane.
